Why doesn't it ever occur to you that a black person isn't part of a monolith and can actually think for himself? Why is it you think you need a white person to say that and refuse to hear the same words spoken by a free thinking black man? I guess you've never listened to Brandon Tatum's channel and heard it directly from him. After all, listening to it from a white liberal decipher what a black man says, is more palpable, right? Remind me again who the racists are.
@Starwars Fan360 Darling, Vaush already explained it here, that there are other detrimental factors like *gasp* class! Well done, though, you probably made it two syllables into the video, it's already more than Sargon or Crowder can manage when reading studies. So yeah, poor white people who live in trailer homes (and that you despise, despite now pretending to care for their issues) have it rough. Poor BLACK people who live in trailer homes have it even rougher. Do you still need me to dumb it down more for you?
Conservatives don't seem to have the ability to grasp the concept that social problems can be systemic. I'm poor and white, so white privilege isn't real. I'm black and successful so racism doesn't exist.
@Starwars Fan360 All your responses are just proving my point. When people with "ethnic" sounding names applications get rejected regardless of qualification and there's a clear disparity in sentencing and severity of punishment in the criminal justice system that favors whites, this disparity can be described in a word; white privilege. Again white privilege doesn't require every white person to live like a king for it to exist.
Arguing with conservative.(actual conversation) Me: white privilege is actually a thing, the average black family wealth is 1\50 that of a white family Conservative: that's not privilege, they can pull themselves up by their bootstraps. If they don't want to be working minimum wage jobs, they should have sought higher education, rather than dropping out of college. Later Conservative: you are a middle class American who has a college degree, you are very privileged, so don't talk to me about injustices of the rich to the poor when you aren't poor yourself. Me: I feel injustice myself too, as I have to work my ass off to pay off my crippling college debt that was brought about by the outrageous tuition costs. Conservative: well if you don't like being in debt, you shouldn't have gone to college.
They love telling people to pull themselves up by their bootstraps while ignoring that some people don't have bootstraps, some people have broken bootstraps, some people have tiny loops on their bootstraps and fat fingers, and some people aren't even given boots to pull up so they have to go and make their own while everyone else is hoarding all the boot and bootstrap material to make bootstraps for other people. Some people have to buy boots to pull up in the first place while the market makes buying boots impossible. Meanwhile people like that fuckboi are given tailor-fitted boots with straps that are at the perfect length are like "lmao just pull up your boostraps it's so easy, look *yank*" Hyperindividualism is the bane of social progress I swear.
The bootstrap mentality meme speaks to the shortcomings and failures of the free market/capitalism and the moral blind spot present in conservative ideology. It's no coincidence hyper-conservatism and apathy towards minorities and the down trodden developed in a country built on the exploitation of minorities and the establishment of racial hierarchies. Olive branches and empathy don't get extended to the descendants of minorities this country trampled for generations because shitting on minorities and maintaining hierarchies is our jam.
The entire worldview of conservatism is survivorship bias, it's So frustrating. It's like they have no working knowledge of a fucking normal distribution! "Why can't the statistical mean be just like the population three standard deviations away?!". They're so fucking basic man.
Pretty sad. I'm Black and I hate when other Black people equate acknowledging oppression to admitting defeat. They look down upon Black people who are educated on the racist history and the current state of America
@@darienmiller1032 The entire worldview of conservatives is based on myopically clinging to personal and near personal anecdotes of their life experiences while lacking the ability and/or the desire to be empathetically creative in trying to imagine the lives of other different kinds of people, let alone actually trying to find out for sure.
My favorite part is that he says he was never treated badly when walking into a store and just in general wasn't treated in a racist way. Ok Brandon, where do you live? Maybe that's why you weren't treated like shit, Brandon? Nah, must be cause racism is dead.
14:00 This argument actually has far reaching implications you might not be aware of at first. It's not just about flesh colored bandages. All kinds of products are not made catering to the specific needs of dark skinned people, including blacks. For a long time cameras were not designed to pick up hue nuances of dark skinned people, because companies didn't care. The make up industry for the longest time has neglected the needs of women of color and has not provided them with big enough variety of matching shades for them. POC have a harder time finding a qualified dermatologist or cosmetician to do certain procedures involving lasers, peelings, etc because dark skin has a higher likelihood of ending up with adverse reactions, so fewer people are qualified or willing to offer such treatments. Usually you will need to go to a black dermatologist/cosmetician in those instances. We are less catered to and for us it's harder to find certain products matching the needs of our different skin. It's not as ridiculous as this PragerU token is trying to make it sound like.
Damn, I hadn't heard of the dermatology aspect, but that sounds super fucked. When Vaush was on that makeup podcast I learned a whole lot of new information about the industry and their complete disregard for more than one dark skin tone.
Silvannetwork Humm I wonder why companies trying to make a profit wouldn’t cater to darker skin tones. Maybe the same reason they don’t cater to people with size 15 shoe. Or fat people. Make product A and sell 1000. Make product B and sell 5. What product would you start with?
@@TheUnibrade It's almost like having a market that caters towards absolute profits instead of the needs of the people leads to an inherently fucked system that disadvantages groups like the people in this thread thread are saying it is. Hmmmmm.
@@TheUnibrade I don't see why you believed pointing out the reason how the problem came to be, means we aren't in the right to complain about it. It still remains a problem for the life of someone who isn't white. You really made a void point.

that last part about the existance of different kinds of privilage is a classic example of conservatives coming SOOOOO close to the point but still managing to miss it
@@shaqkilledkobe5496 White privilage is the existence of a general socioeconomic and political bias in favour of white people. This includes stuff like beauty standards, white people generally being perceived as less threatening than black people, preferences towards white immigrants over non-white immigrants, preferences on the part of employers for applications containing white-sounding names, treatment by police, likelyhood of promotion, and access to resources and opportunities. This doesn't mean all white people will do well, or will do better than non-white people, but as a general rule being white comes with significant advantages as compared to other skin colours, just like being rich, tall or attractive will come with unearned advantages. One major white privilege is knowing where specifically your family came from before america. I have one white grandparent and funnily enough that's the only side of my family that knows their ancestry. "English" "German" etc. Family names and crests. For my black grandparents, our known history begins with american slavery and we know nothing before america.

@@roywiseman You know what, I will just explain white privilege to you since you don't understand it. White privilege isn't so much as white people getting more as it is about what they(for the most part) don't get. Basically it means if you're black(or anyone of color really), then you are much more likely to have a longer jail sentence, to be seen as more of a threat, to have higher medical costs (I'm not a 100% sure for this one I'll do research), to be harassed or even assaulted by police for no valid reason, to be arrested for a crime you didn't commit without evidence or to not be allowed in some places. So does being white mean this stuff won't happen to me? No, of course not, it's just more likely to happen to a black or haspanic person. Does being white make me racist? No unless you choose to become one. Does being in a society that has white privilege makes me racist then? No unless you use white privilege to justify racism. Do all black or haspanic people go through this? No that's why there are some people who don't fully understand the problems with white privilege because they haven't experienced it, like me. I luckily wasn't a victim of this but I know people who have. There we go.
@@roywiseman Well I'm kinda confused because the all caps tone of you comment gave the impression that you were angry at the vid and serious but I'm also was wondering if you were being sarcastic.
What helped me come to terms with "privilege" as a whole was figuring out what other advantages exist out there. So for instance, white privilege might be White Men receiving less jail time for equivalent crimes than Black Men, and using the same logic, it is female privilege that women receive less jail time than men for equivalent crimes. An example of male privilege is being physically stronger than women on average. An example of black male privilege is everyone assuming you have a big dick (directly contrary to Asian stereotypes which are disadvantageous) How privilege effects you depends on the individual's circumstance, and not all privileges are equal in value, but they are all still "privilege". That said, people who rage tweet about privilege accounts for 90% of the discussions on privilege I see; and despite a more nuanced understanding, it's still just as cringe.
"An example of black male privilege is everyone assuming you have a big dick..." I personally wouldn't classify this as a privilege. Because black men are stereotyped to be more sexually mature, they may be seen as competition to non-black men in terms of dating or sex. Some may use this to support the sexist idea that white women are being "stolen" from the people they "belong to", white men, which can result in even more suspiscion towards black men. Racism and sexism often go hand-in-hand, and it's one good example of why the Central Park 5 had so many doubting their innocence until they were exonerated. Five "big, black men" alleged (at the time) to have raped a small and "pure/damsel" white woman is a racist's wet dream. While you're at it, I'd google Emmett Till as well. Similar concept, except he was murdered from a white woman's fake accusations (she confessed). But otherwise, I 100% agree.
My issue with the white privilege narrative is the "therefore..." that usually fallows someone claiming being white *alone* gives you all sorts of advantages. Often affirmative action is the proposed(and implemented) solution. Now, I can't get behind a legally enforced system that explicitly states "if you are race X, you are excluded from Y". That, my friend, is racism. I think the framing of the conversation around "white privilege" is divisive and unproductive, even if you are pointing in the broad direction of a larger problem. And no, I'm not white, if that was assumed
The fact that these right wingers will claim female privilege or sexism against men in the legal system that exists but white privilege doesn't (even in the same scenarios if compared to a black or brown person) is where I call them disingenuous. Cherry picking what fits their politics. They will say white men are victims (even though they gave privilege/bias in favor for white women to historically help toughen sentences on non-white men who are accused of assault or have legal conflict with them).
"What advantage do you have as white person that I don't have? That you can go to clans meeting without the other members making a fuss about it? Wrong! I go to clans meetings too, ever other Saturday. I just keep my hood on, and use a white voice. Never had any problems!"
It's so hard to watch these videos as a black person. It's *so* hard. They never fail to find the random token black person to spew BS if it has something to do with racism, like that makes his point more valid or some shit.
Not even generational wealth but generational trauma. Beyond the social aspects of slavery being VERY recent and us still dealing with the repercussions, epigenetics can explain why slavery still has a physiological and psychological affect on even the great-grandkids of slaves. Trauma affects your very DNA and how genes express for generations to come.

He comes up to the counter and asks to get help with some tvs. I take him to the section and he starts asking how many of each we have in stock, and then starts saying how many of each he'd like. Guy must have wanted 10 tvs in total, and my manager called lose prevention thinking I was about to get robbed or that a stolen credit card was about to be used. I got all the tv and rang him up, and the guy payed in cash. Management was incredulous. Store wasn't even in a remotely bad neighborhood, just racism things
