I love Prairie Points, have used them in quilts and on the edge of quilts using the fold and fold again method so you can tuck the next one in. This potholder would be a good use of left over fabric or totally scrappy!

I just went over to Plum Easy’s website and discovered they have a pattern for a hot pad table runner. I ordered the Kaleidoscope centerpiece and the table runner. Thank you for the inspiration. I’ve made the hot pads and they are so much fun. I’ve used up scraps and they come out like little Picasso’s 💕

Don't you LOVE that Quilters Select ruler! OMG, I could not live without mine, it's the best. I should buy more sizes, it's so non slip it's the best. These are pretty, I have only seen prairie points on the edge of quilts, sticking outward, never inward. I have seen this method where they do the no sew Christmas ornaments and pin down the points, so this was fun to see something new for sewing PP.

Creative and fun! Excellent tutorial. What is the recommended way to wash the finished potholder? Did you prewash your fabric? I love how the red, green and white interact visually but worry colors would bleed. This is a project I would do ~ Thank you for taking the time to do this video!
@SewVeryEasy
@SewVeryEasy 6 лет назад
I always wash my fabric before I start this type of project, for that very reason. I make sure all the fabric is safe from bleeding first. and because All of the points are stitch down, so you can just toss it in the wash:)
@plumeasypatterns1644
@plumeasypatterns1644 6 лет назад
If you prewash, press and starch your fabric, there will not be any shrinkage, which is a big plus. I've made hot pads without prewashing and they never look as good after washing. If you've prewashed, then a little iron to touch up the fabric and it's like new.

I've got to try this one. Love that metal template. Where can I purchase it? I would love to try the larger piece for my table. You are so clever and I thank you for these video--they are the best! Can't wait to try this. I've done Christmas ornaments (no sew method), but had a little trouble getting all the points just right. That template should solve that problem. Keep the videos coming.

This is beautiful! I've had to stop all fine hand movement skills hobbies because I have Parkinson's disease. But I've had my eye on this and another larger round one. One has blue main colors and the other is in autumn colors I think. It's not the Ana Costa Patchwork but similar to that. If anyone can help me with finding it I would be so grateful. Thanks so much!

So pretty! May I ask, what color thread did you use to stitch across the ditches of all the prairie points? I wouldn't want it to show. Also, why did you feel it's necessary to stitch down around the points? Thank you.
@plumeasypatterns1644
@plumeasypatterns1644 6 лет назад
The thread sinks down into the folds. I often use clear thread, just in case it were to peek through, but honestly, it hardly matters. The prairie point folds should cover the thread. If you don't top stitch, the prairie points (especially on the top layer) will stretch. They are bias. You don't need to topstitch every layer, but I normally do the top (layer 4) and layer 2. I liked how Laura's were all stitched.
@susanmei9980
@susanmei9980 6 лет назад
+PlumEasy Patterns Oh. That makes sense. Thank you for answering. Would you also stitch down the points, if used in a quilt [block], then? I thought of using clear thread, but thought it might melt if it's used on a hot pad or pot holder.
@plumeasypatterns1644
@plumeasypatterns1644 6 лет назад
I've never had clear thread melt but I have had it break after a while. I make star blocks with one set of prairie points, top stitching around the edge 1/16" so it is very close and I match that thread to the fabric. The pattern Laura held up, BabyStar Sweetie, has about 3 different size stars in the quilt top, and it's a good example of what you can do with the prairie points, in many sizes. You can see it for a better visual at: www.plumeasypatterns.com/shop/babystar-sweetie-quilt Hope that helps.
