Update Found out some boiler cladding had come loose.
What started as a normal visit to the Nene Valley turned into something unusual, and not in a good way.
So, on loan GWR Prairie tank 4144 set off on her first trip of the day, firstly heading to Yarwell, then towards Peterborough Nene Valley. After changing locations to Orton Mere, 4144 had yet to appear from the Peterborough direction, myself eventually being told that she had failed by a helpful station member.
After some 30 minutes after 4144 was due she appeared, light engine, coming to a haul in the platform. The crew informed those who were there that on her return from Peterborough a loud bang was heard, so the crew stopped, and not wanting to damage the loco more, decided to leave the coaches and run light to Orton to have a thorough inspection.
After some runs up and down the platform to try and see/hear the problem, the crew couldn't find a fault, by which time, the rescue loco in the form of a class 14 turned up to collect the coaches. Having returned with the coaches, the 14 headed past the station, then which the prairie was added to the rear to be taken back to Wansford.
Quite an interesting turn of events.
Hope you enjoy!
