At 41:12 burnishing. Its nice to see how a real jeweler uses the rounded edge of those pliers to burnish. I knew what burnish was. I have those pliers. But I needed to be shown how to use the pliers to burnish. I never learned that in my whole 2 years of youtube instructions. Thanks Chad!
Another great project! I have watched a number of your tutorials and I really appreciate that you use the most basic tools to accomplish the same things that other smiths use all kinds of fancy contraptions for!
Thanks Karin! I hear that quite a bit. I have found that there are usually work-arounds for most things. Don’t get me wrong-I would love more fancy tools:). I appreciate the nice comment!
Thanks for the inspiration. Your videos always make it look easy. I would like you to show more of the clean-up process. I feel it would add to the reality that it's a combination of tools, talent, and time. As for ideas for a project, I'm working on a necklace with a set of bear claws. I would love to see some of your ideas on setting a claw. Thanks.
Thanks for the good comment John. Have you seen this video I made to show that part of my process? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OpllnTnspTM.html. I think I set a claw of some sort for a client years ago:). If I ever have a claw, I’ll probably make a video about figuring out how to do it!
@Chad’s Silversmithing let me know if you want to make a video. I have a few different kinds of claws. Everything from turtle to bobcat to mountain lion to bear and probably more. It would probably take a few days to find some of them lol. I wish I could afford to support you more than a like but with cancer and copd with heart disease I can't afford to pay attention let alone all the meds. I do enjoy your videos and your work. Keep Smiling and Stay Grateful.
@@John-Doe831 Sorry you have so many health related expenses. I am perfectly happy with your nice comments. No need for donations. Thanks John. I’ll let you know if I decide to do a claw video sometime. Thanks for the offer! Take care!
Love me some minty prasiolite! Gorgeous! Nice to see you demonstrate a bearing bezel. That's really a great way to hold the stone well. 🌺 Challenge: gold bezel on silver piece. Love the polishing hair! I get optivisor hair (and forehead stripe)! 😅
@Chad’s Silversmithing Chad, I think it's six of one and a half dozen of the other. Bearing bezel or step bezel. And, I'm not positive, but I think the randomly faceted top of a stone is called a "rose-cut". Many rose-cuts are not symmetrical stones, but I believe that it's technically about the cut of the top (not the shape). I have heard of uniform top facets called a checkerboard top. I'll look into my Creative Stone Setting book by John Cogswell; one of the two most important books I own and recommend as must-have books to my students. The other being Soldering Demystified by Jeanette K. Caines.
Thank you for the challenge idea. I’ve honestly never much wanted to work with gold, so I’ve never pursued it:). Maybe sometime when I can afford some raw materials:)
Your a boss Chad !! Keep up the good work, I’d love to see a turquoise cuff bracelet with multiple stones like the Indians make, with leaves and feathers ect, can you do it??? If anyone is offended I used the word Indian, get over it I am one.
Thanks Herman! That’s not my typical style, but I occasionally do something like that. Stick around long enough and I’m sure I’ll make something along those lines. Thanks for watching!
Love the bracelet as I do all of your work. Just wondering if the pointed edges on the end of the bracelet, need to be rounded or tapered. Seems as if they will get caught on things. Don't want to mess up the aesthetics. I LIKE CHAD.
You could bend them outwards and it could be a self defense bracelet:). This one is probably not an everyday bracelet as it is. You could put little silver balls on the ends or just leave off the pointy parts on the ends:)
What kind of magic is this with you filing those butt joints all up in the air, willy-nilly and then having them line up!? Geez you make it look so easy! So, how often do you polish your pliers and do you take off the edges on them? I never you see you marr up your metal like I do as soon as I touch it with my pliers? This cuff is beautiful!!
Hehe. I leave marks all the time and have to remove them:). That’s a good idea about removing the edges of the pliers. Over time I have kind of figured out leverage tricks so I I don’t ding things up too much. Wide nose pliers help spread out the force so you mar things less too. I’ve always filed like that:). I did just get a miter vise though, and that makes filing 90’s and 45’s so much easier. Thanks for the nice comment Amber!
