Loving the slight loss of control at the bend just after 6:30! Superb entertainment. I used to have a Swiftune 1380 Mini with Kent 286 rally cam, 5 speed straight cut Jack Knight box and buckets/cage and used to take it on track days. The absolute buzz cannot be described; this brings back so many memories. I spun it once at Castle Combe doing 70mph because I was overrunning on the exit so I made the fatal mistake of lifting off the accelerator- never do that in a mini on a bend in my opinion!
This car looks well set up. And a good driver, consistent. I raced a mini when I was 15. First outing, oulton o Pk 1979,. Brilliant cars. Then I jumped ship too Imps ,grethem and Hartwell eng. Great stuff
I raced/hillclimbed bricks 60 years ago. Half the thrill was the sense of speed with your arse only 8 inches off the ground. This variant has the short gearshift and decent synchromesh. When the spot welded seams at each corner of the body were removed, the similar shape to the A30 was very apparent.
I may be sticking my neck out here but I think the Cooper S would typically be doing 16.5 mph per 1000 revs in 4th so if you said something like 12 ish for 3rd gear which is mostly where he stayed you can use the rev counter to calculate the road speed
Hi, Please let me know your thoughs on the small errors. This is my 1st year racing, never done it before so I would love some tips. Always happy to learn & hopefully get more out of myself. Thanks Chris
Hello Chris, just found your channel. I have owned 2 Cooper S. Both 1967 1275. One I took out to 1310 and a lot of other mods. I suspect you are running a 1275 as I spotted the rev counter showing max 5800 to 6100 rpm between gear changes, if you fit a longer and wider accelerator pedal I reckon you will master heel and toe easier. Question, are you running the 3:4 to 1 diff ratio with the 10" wheels.?. Even if you send the stats of your car, would be great. I am talking over 40 years ago, but the memories of driving and rebuilding these little rockets is still with me. Look forward to hearing from you and seeing more racing. Are you running a big weber behind that Speedo 😅 sounds like it, regards Steve.
a beautiful Mini 1275 running a full/half?? race cam. Engine sounds magnificent & the car handles like it's on rails. Only question is that the driver isn't blipping the accelerator when down-changing through the gears ? As mentioned, a speedo or tacho would be nice. 06:40 - OOPSIE !!
There are three keys to drive a mini fast. 1: Handling of the car. 2:Power of the engine. But the 3:th that can sometimes outperform power is dedication to racing a mini and knowhow of racing a car. If you won't tick all of those boxes exept horsepower you wont find yourself as a winner...
There isn’t much point going out of 3rd in a Mini around Donington. You’ll get into 4th down the back straight, and maybe 2nd into the chicane and the first corner. Thanks for watching.
You are driving it wrong, you change down too often. You should drive in top gear all the way, you shift as if you are driving a normal car but with Mini's it's different because the car is light and low on the ground. I will show you how to drive. In wet weather you have a huge advantage if you know how to drive.
What a rude comment to post The driver is Changing down to keep the car in its power band [ if you know what that is ] swiftuned engines have a soft spot for the high revs. Where’s your videos on racing minis [ ‘if you know how to drive’]
