As someone who had to test out of Highschool at 16 because of family issues, this video, the Algebra 1, and the Algebra 2 videos have been a life saver for me now that I'm going to college nearly 10 years later.
Quite literally word for word my situation, except I am getting into software engineering so learning this information is essential for learning algebra 1, 2, trig.. calc.. and then I can start learning discreet math.. a long road but I'm ready lol, best of luck brother.
i never failed pre algebra, but i didnt learn ANYTHING from it, so ive been lost in all of my math classes since 7th grade. this channel just rescued me from the darkest time of my life by re-teaching math to me :)
Im 57 years old , Dropped out my senior year in 1984 to work . Ive always wanted to get my GED and just got enrolled in classes . Thank you for the great videos !
I just finished pre-algebra and I'm looking forward to taking Algebra 1. I've always felt insecure about my ability in math, but I want to thank you for making it easy to learn. I really appreciate the effort put into the great content-the videos, the website-everything! Thank you so much!
I used to hate math especially when it became more difficult during the end of elementary school and all throughout the rest of my public school education, I’m 29 years old and intentionally reviewing all of this information to be able to better teach my daughters when they reach this point. My eldest is homeschooled in second grade but I’m also facing my past and slowly loving math as a grown woman. I never thought I actually would understand it and enjoy it! I’m hopeful that my daughters won’t struggle the way I did! Please never get rid of this course! I’ll use it again for my eldest! 😂
I dont know if you will see this man but you saved my life. Every since middle school I just cheated through all of math but after seeing my moms face when she saw me get a 280 on the math section of the sat I couldnt forgive myself. Took a good half year looking over all of your videos and i was able to bring that up to a 740! its never too late guys.
I’m in 8th grade and I’m really struggling with pre algebra since I’ve got a really bad teacher who rushes the units and doesn’t properly explain math. I really appreciate this video, thank you so much!
That's very nice of you to say. Don't forget to practice. Each section on the website has a generator with the solutions. greenemath.com/Prealgebra.html Hint the ads button on the menu bar first.
@believeinpeace The main thing is to take your time and don't move on until you understand something. Lots and lots of practice is the only way to learn math. If something isn't clear just leave a comment with a time marker and I'll try to explain!
I’m going bk to school after 20 years and a Premed student so I needed a refresher and I swear you are the best teacher I could ever have for this! Thank you for such an amazing video!!
As a graduating high school student, I went straight into the workforce.... 12 Years later I am now going BACK to college and prepping for the ACT/SAT placement tests and come across your Pre-Algebra courses. THANK YOU!!! So much for making this not as complicated as I was making it out to be..... Loved how you explained everything and even went into further detail on certain subjects because of how you said "some students may not know how to do this" .... which that was me lol! Thank you!
Looking to go back to school but I haven’t taken a math class in over ten years, I discovered this channel Saturday and I just completed your Pre-Algebra Course today. Amazing content, you break down Math so it makes sense , I plan on continuing watching and studying your courses for the remainder of the year.
I'm a 1st year college student and I really struggle learning math ever since , I avoided this subject since I was in highschool but ever since I started watching your videos I started enjoying it more and more. Im beginning to understand concept that I struggled to learn in the past thank youuu soo much
As someone who's currently in 9th grade and got pushed behind in math a year this has helped so much with getting through pre-algebra a lot faster and its explained in a way i get, amazing video
This guy literally saved my life, thank you so much for posting this stuff. When I was stumped and stuck in my studies , this guy help me learned much more. Thanks man.
I am in my 70's. Love to learn and working through the math requirements for Machine Learning. I am so glad that I found your channel. Love you videos. Thank you so much for your dedication you are the best math teacher I ever had.
I am so thankful this course is free, its helping a lot of people like me so thank you! I'm setting my goal for next year that i want to learn math again and this course is just what i needed! Have a Happy New Year😊
Thanks man. I was feeling really down because I never took math studies very seriously, and as a result fell behind. I’m in geometry now, taking algebra 2 next year. I feel that my foundation for algebra was weak, and now I’ve decided to try my best to master the fundamentals before trying to understand the complicated topics. Thanks for the practice too, massive help.
If I could suggest implementing chatgpt into your studies I think it would help. Don't cheat with it, work with it. Good luck. You got this. I'm 41 and relearning pre algebra because I have a college algebra class coming up. The calculous!
The best math teacher ever. I will definitely watch all his courses. What a service to humanity! I appreciate the hard work you have put into making this tutorial. Thank you!
I am 13 yrs old studying in class 8. I was really good at math till 5th but after that a math teacher came who doesn't know math and started teaching wrongly. Now a new teacher came and he is trying but we are so weak in math. I really regret and my dream needs strong foundation of math and I found your channel. Pray for me. BTW lots of love from India. ❤❤❤❤
I am eager to begin my learning journey on algebra! I have an immense desire to learn what I should’ve done back in high school. I hope to master algebra in its entirety by the end of the year 2023! Thank you for setting the tools, now I just have to learn to use them!
Just make sure to do lots of practice, the website has a generator for each topic, so you can practice until you have it down. greenemath.com/Prealgebra.html
I was 42 when I started college. That was 2007. I never understood math when I was in school. I'm getting ready to start my 11th yr teaching. Celebrate your victories . Overcome your mistakes and you'll do fine. Congratulations on your journey 😊
You helped me rediscover my love for math. I used to hate it because my elementary teacher was always discouraging and mean. Thank you, you're amazing!
Still in the process of watching this to be honest but I just wanted to thank you for putting all these fundamental concepts in one place. I had a whole story written for this comment lol but long story short I immensely appreciate you in helping all of us build a much better foundation in math so we can tackle those more advanced subjects more effectively.
You are welcome, I have practice for free on the website if you need it. greenemath.com/Prealgebra.html Hit the ads button on the menu bar before you start.
I have just discovered this channel… and, yes!! I was I bed resting while I listened to the very first few lessons. Now I’m out of bed and energized to go through the entire course!! There are some good things in life and this is one of them!!!K
Im 40 years old and I just started learning to code in c++ I needed to brush up on my poor math. Your channel is amazing. Love and appreciation from the UK ❤☺
I hope I'm not the only 27 year old coming back to this. I haven't done math in a long time, and I'm about to re-enter college for an engineering degree. So, I'm going back to strengthen my most basic math skills before attempting to take on higher math. I am not looking forward to taking on all the calculus, but I know I can, and will do it.
Nah you definitely arent the only one. I am homeschooled so its a struggle for me to find good resources and I honestly havent learned in years. Now I am trying to learn everything. This youtuber is the best source I have found. There is another guy on youtube name the organic chemistry teacher I think. He explains stuff very well.
Hey i'd love to know how you are doing today! I'm 33 and interested in re-entering college for an engineering degree too. And i'm all the way back here trying to learn pre-algebra.
Thank you so much for these. I never went to school. I thought myself basic math, but I decide to win back to school to become a nurse and I have no clue that I would need more math than just basic,so I didn’t know what to do. I saw your video and I decide to study it all because I need it algebra for my HESI test. Now I can say that you have taught me pre-algebra and algebra. My exam is in the 29 and I feel very confident. Thank you for this gift.
You are a brilliant, focused educator. I'm reviewing what I learned 60 years ago, but have had little reason to use. I will adopt many of your [re]fine[d] educational techniques. Be well.
I received an associate in business back in 2018 and I just recently decided to go back for Environmental Science, which will need some math credits. I haven't really had to do much algebra in years so I totally forgot all the little rules such as going left to right during the order of operations. I do remember PEMDAS, but I incorrectly took it literally and did multiplication before division instead of whichever comes first left to right. I've watched about an hour a day for the past few days and all these little rules are helping me remember the basics so I don't end up lost when I have to take some of my upcoming math classes.
Good luck with your degree. If you want some computer generated practice with the steps given, you can use GreeneMath. greenemath.com/Prealgebra.html Each section has a practice exam, just click on the Generate New Test button and you will get a fresh test with the steps given below. The menu bar has a blocker built in if you don't have one in your browser. Just click ads button and turn it off.
thank you so much for doing this im about to begin algbra 1 tommrow im 17years old in gr 11 and the last 2 years things have been very rocky being in and out of school and not having stable eductaion but you give us a second chance to learn and u do it for free, may the lord bless and keep you for your good work u do for us. i could not ay thank u enough
Practice is truly the key to making this come easy. Take the tests on his website over and over! Once it's very easy move on to something else for a few days. Then come back and do it all again. You'll see what's slipped away an where to refocus.
I come from Thailand. I know your channel today. You are such an excellent and kind teacher. Your channel has a lot of full courses about math that I think it can help people who want to improve their skills in chosen chapters. I also love math. I have created contents about math on my channel and your channel make me have motivation to create new good content from my beloved things to help others. This thing makes me happy.
I’m at a place in my life where an understanding of maths is now needed and I am not young any more , school in the 70’s didn’t have the focus for me . I appreciate the way it starts from the ground and builds , it gives confidence that hopefully will lead me to the computing degree I intend to pursue . I am a life long learner , then I will be dead and learn about being dead
i cannot thank you enough for these ive been watching in prep for my math ged test because i wasnt understanding anything from reading the textbook ! the amount of detail you go into and the free questions on your website have helped so so much
One of my degree subjects is Economics and I don't know what's going on. I've forgotten school math's and algebra because I use a calculator and it's usually just arithmetic in my day job. I've had to come all the way back here, can you believe it! just so I can move on to the algebra lesson. You awesome at explaining. Wish you were a lecturer in one of my online lectures. Thank you so much again!
It's easy to forget stuff if you aren't constantly using it. Sometimes just using a textbook or workbook one day a week to work some problems is enough to hang on to the information.
you sir are a hero. Bless you so much. I am studying to be a math teacher, and need some brushing up for the secondary math certification test. Hopefully going through Pre Alg to Calc again will help me pass
It's so helpful to have everything you need to learn all in one place bc it helps you realise stuff you didn't even know you've forgotten by 24. No wonder I struggle with algebra when I can't even remember studying expanded notation! I'm starting a science degree at the open uni next year so this is a super helpful way to relearn maths beforehand
Hello Mr, Greene I`ve been studying from your RU-vid channel for two years, I really appreciate your hard work in facilitating mathematics especially for basic people like me :) Now I`m in my senior year and I`m really stuck at calculus, I searched about any videos for you that explain calculus and didn`t find so, please if you have time put in mind to make calculus videos and more geometry videos because they are also few. Hope you see my comment and thank you for your great effort today and forever :)))
Thanks for your nice comment. I am currently working on finishing up the Trigonometry course and then I can begin Calculus I. Good luck with your studies :)
Thank you so much. I was literally giving up on university, programming and everything, because I just didn’t understand anything and it seemed impossible. Now I’ve got hope, and my knowledge improves. I couldn’t imagine there’s something like this. 😮thank you one more time!
I am so much enjoying this course. I am on the order of operations. I finally understand it. PEMDAS, when I first memorized this - I did not understand the left to right in working the problem when it comes to multiply, division, addition and subtraction. I could never understand when I was in class when the teacher was teaching Algebra, and it was not explained fully the left to right. I remember thinking, that when I think the answer is one way, it is another answer. I was so confused and frustrated. Thanks to your tutorial I was able to understand this principal. At one time I hated math, but now I am beginning to love it. I will continue with the videos and learning. I feel like I want to go back to college. I am 81 years old and I feel this is a new beginning of understanding Math.
I cant thank u enough , I’m so far 6 hours into the vid i wanted to prepare for my sat seeing u post these videos all full , and ur explanation being so clear thank you so much

Hi, I'm currently in 7th grade and on solving systems by solution and elimination (8th-grade math/7th-grade advanced math), I know that's a bit advanced compared to this vid but I'm pushing to go to 8th-grade advanced math (9th-grade math), I am currently writing a notebook on pre-alg, alg 1, and alg 2 with everything included to help people around me and make this road trip to next grade advanced math. These videos are really helpful to my journey. I just wanted to let you know how helpful and resourceful your videos are. You really are helping the math community. Thanks, Mr.Greene!
@@Greenemath Thanks, My older brother who is doing 9th-grade math showed me how to do ax^2+bx+c. I also am adding pre-calc, calc, and geometry to the list of notebooks I am doing.
17:33 Expanded notation is writing the number in a long form by multiplying each digit by its place value. Expanded means long-form (for all the ESL folk out there). Notation is a word used in mathematics and it means how numbers are written. For example 10 is short notation. 1x10+0×1 is expanded notation. So 10 in expanded notation is 10+0.
As a 13 year old girl who's been kinda struggling with Homeschool math This is *AMAZING* thank you so much for this amazing video it really helped me!!🥳😄
I have some computer background and would like to learn Machine Learning as a career change. However, I am very poor in Maths and looking for a course which explains in detail from scratch. I have watched a few videos and most of them jumps directly into 'linear equation, exponential,...' which I stopped after a few since I don't get the concept. And I cannot take face-to-face courses due to family commitment. I am lucky that I found this video where I can learn all in one place (from high school to undergrad to graduate levels) while sitting at home. Thanks a lot Mr. Greene. You are a life saver.
I'm glad to hear the lessons are helpful. The main thing is to do practice as you work through the lessons. You can use GreeneMath.com if you want free practice.
Is it too much to ask if you could add chapters to your videos as your videos are very long (which is very very good and beneficial to those who have little knowledge in Maths). this way, it's easier to browse which part we want to revisit/focus. :)@@Greenemath
Here in the Unites States,, there's a major financial shift happening right now.. so i encourage everyone to GO BACK TO SCHOOL if you don't have a working bachelor's degree- its a long process but with study tools like Greene Math - we can accomplish anything we set our minds to. Im setting a 3 year goal to complete my bachelor's degree. Wish me luck! Thank you to GREENE MATH for the dynamic study videos!
I am 54 years old and I have managed to become successful but held a secret that I barely understood basic math. I have felt stupid, and so embarrassed for years that I just couldn’t understand basic math. I have learned so much today that I have long thought I would never understand. There are no stupid people. It is like I tell my sales team every day in regards to something new: when it comes to something we can’t, or don’t achieve, it comes down to two things: we either don’t understand it, or, we don’t care. Ty to the 1000,… power! Infinity Ty!
I decided I finally want to understand math because I’m so tired of breaking down everytime I see a math equation I’m also extremely tired of barely passing math so I’ve made up my mind I want to at least pass with an 80 this year and I’m gonna try my absolute hardest to achieve that goal and I’m actually going to try to catch up to my classmates and stop making excuses like being in algebra 2 and having the same knowledge of an 3rd grader when you’re in 9th is embarrassing. So thank you so much for posting these courses 🙏🏾 gonna binge watch these and write lots of notes
I'm glad you are motivated to learn math. The main thing is to work all the problems as I do them in the video. Don't worry about taking any notes, just work the problems. Good luck!
I've not had a lot of support in math, so I'm having to learn from the bottom up at 33. Maybe in my lífe i can even make it to Calc 3. It's a dream, but one day I'll be good in math. These videos help me take the time I need to digest the materials at my own pace instead of being rushed in a classroom setting.
You can make it as far as you would like. The main thing is to do lots of practice when you are at the basic level (Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1). This will make things a lot easier as you progress.
Thank you so much for this! I’m an older stay at home mom homeschooling my son. I’ve forgotten what math I managed to learn in school. Was not my best subject. I’ve decided I need to review pre algebra and algebra so I can help my son. Thank you for this easy to understand course. ❤️
9:17:27 something I noticed to help me understand this equation is the bottom number of both fractions represents the same 1 whole pizza, so ask yourself how many slices of the 8 slice pizza will make 1 half? Which is 4 slices.
I am genuinely genuinely genuinely grateful to you. You see India has very bad government education. I am 19 I had no Idea there were these types of methods i can use for resulting Same answers 2:38:46 anyway I will finish this course and learn a lot please don't remove this course. Thank you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'm ridden with flu fever that refuses to go away, I'm incapable of doing anything other than just sitting in bed with stress of everything that's put on hold due to my health currently. Watching these maths lectures on this channel is the only straw between me and a much worsened mental state. Can't thank you enough for putting these up on RU-vid. Blessings your way 🙏💕
Man you are greatly appreciated!! I’ve been having my own study sessions M-F this month and it’s going well! Thank you, you gave me something beneficial and positive to do in my spare time🙏🏿onto Algebra 1 soon
I am a 29-year-old man who graduated from high school and college. However, I never fully understood subjects like Algebra, Geometry, Pre Calculus, Calculus, or Statistics. Though I was not terrible at math, I used to forget formulas and make mistakes which made it difficult for me to solve problems. So, I have decided to go back and engage in some self-study to understand where I went wrong and how I can improve my skills. Thanks for the video. I think it was during my 9th and 10th grade years when things became increasingly challenging. In 9th grade, we only had substitute teachers and no regular teacher. In 10th and 11th grade, the professors appeared to be upset because most of us had difficulties in the class. Finally, in senior year, the entire class was conducted online.
You are an excellent teacher, Mr. Greene. You have made it possible for even someone with acalculia to grasp and learn this; thank you so very much for your energy, time, dedication, and caring.
I've finished the course!!! I understand everything, now all is left is practice. I am looking forward to getting better at math! I thought there's no hope for me to understand Math while I was at school, but now that I've graduated long ago with the right environment and teacher, it makes me so HAPPY. If I keep learning like this, I think I can pass the GED in math with a good score. I'll be on my way to Algebra! AND THANK YOU so much for devoting your time to teach students like me or people that have a hard time understanding Math, it makes Math more fun to learn!
That's really great to hear. I have computer generated practice tests on GreeneMath for each topic in Pre-Algebra. Check it out when you are ready to practice: greenemath.com/Prealgebra.html
Sit thank you so much for this video. I'm so out of shape when it comes to math and was really lost as to where to begin. Figured I might start with the absolute basics. I cannot believe I watched it completely. Onto the next one. Thanks again!
6:47:35 I really surprised myself that the only mistake I made was forgetting to keep the absolute value sign around 4+(-16) so I added -27 and 4 then -23+(-16) so I got -39. instead of adding 4+(-16) to get -12 converting it to its absolute value to then add -27+12 resulting in -15. The end result was -15/-3 = 5 instead of 9/-3=-3. small mistakes like forgetting absolute value and switching numbers from positive to negative and vice versa trip me up. i need to learn to slow down and recheck my work.
wow green math i dont know if you remember me but i had commented on a algebra 1 video full course a while ago and i just want to say u really are helping me i have a 88 in math from the bottom of my heart thank you
I'm a computer science student, and I've disliked math since sixth grade. While I have a grasp on basic arithmetic operations, I haven't delved much deeper into math. In college, I'm required to take courses in discrete math, algebra, calculus, probability, and statistics. However, I'm really enjoying your content so far, and I'm understanding it well. Do you think I should learn these subjects, or are there any other topics I should cover beforehand? Basically, I'm looking for a roadmap to help me, someone without a strong math background, navigate through these subjects.
Yes, you can use the Math Full Courses Playlist, the main thing is to write down the problems and try them on your own. You can only learn math by doing math.
The place value chart is an abacus. An abacus helps a lot to physically go through the place value chart. It connects different neurons to help to really know what numbers represent. Very different to just working with Pencil and paper. I’m starting this lesson by following along on my abacus (learning that too!).
I have a hard time in my calculus class because i lack math fundamentals, and i need to learn everything from scratch so im thankful for this series, i just wonder how long would it take me to learn pre-algebra to college algebra in order to pass my major exams, i felt like i need to learn eveyting fast in 4 months, is that possible?
It depends on how much time you work on it each day. Math is learned through lots of practice. If you watch the videos and don't do any problems on your own, it's doubtful you would make any significant progress. Good luck with your class!
For a few years my teacher taught me everything in this video but I did not learn anything... But this 15 hour video taught me better and know I understand it.. a feel like school is pointless
@@Greenemath yeah. Maybe.. but I think, the main problem with school is u can't pause and replay.. Btw the way, is the remainder of long division accurate??. Cause sometimes when I was practicing long decision I always check my answer on a calculator and sometimes the remainder is diff, daws dhat mean dhat it's inaccurate?? Or maybe I made a mistake in calculating?
@Zaidmusic988 When you divide on a calculator it is using the decimal form of the answer. We will get to this during the decimal portion of the course, it's towards the end. Let's say you have something like 9/4. 9/4 = 2 R1 Since 2 * 4 + 1 = 8 + 1 = 9 In other words, you take 9 boxes and split them up into groups of 4 boxes, you will get 2 groups (4 * 2 = 8) with 1 leftover (8 + 1 = 9), this is the remainder. With a calculator, it is going to take the remainder and divide it by 4. 1/4 = 0.25 So the answer from a calculator would just be: 9/4 = 2.25
