Ok so you go into the structure with an untested, uncharged hose? If that is their SOP, then they need to change that ASAP. If that engine had any kind of trouble getting them water, then the hose crew could of been in trouble, real quick. Better to have issues outside than in low to no visibility conditions inside. Great job, but stay safe.
Ok youtube fire chief. I was a firefighter for 15 years, often having facial hair. And I survived plenty of work. That bad seal claim has been bullshit since it started.
Hey Paynter, it's USA, best in the world!... A few things I don't understand:-the first apparatus on site is an engine from Northampton, obviously on his own ,needing some mutual assistance help. Why in hell that apparatus has no ladders at all? Nor suction hoses btw. -Funny enough, the first mutual aid apparatus showing up is a superb ladder(Sutphen?) with a pump...??? - No ladders, no suctions, but 6inch ldh, forcing the mutual aid folks to get a Storz reducer... But as it is USA, we must assume it's how it must be🤠
Just for some information as me being that first man going in that engine does have ladders also we had our ladder truck following close behind for front the of the dwelling if need be. It being a one-story dwelling our main goal is fire suppression and search. Every department has its protocols and this has been working great for us we have not had any issues. But thank you for the input
You are very welcome! You sure hide these ladders very well! Strange also that your ladder truck showed up after the mutual aid pump-ladder truck... Suggestion: look at NFPA rules.
Not a firefighter, but every single one ive talked to agrees, its never smart to enter without water at your side. Maybe back in the day it was common to scout fires before hose lines are charged but in such a small building I cant see that being necessary.
You know he's probably one of those guys who's as strong as an ox, knows everything there is to know, and is quietly looking out for everyone. One of those guys that you can't remember actually meeting but he knows you and you're glad his around.
the thing is unless your a interior FF you don't need to take a fit test. So ZZ top accountability officer is exterior he doesn't need to take a fit test. I should know I was exterior FF for 2 yrs before a spot opened up at our training center for me to get into. the Fit test only makes sure that you know how to keep a seal around your face while doing meaningless things like talking, moving head side to side that BS stuff. The strange part is you can have a mustache and wont interfere with the face piece but a full on beard nope. I did talk to one of the past chiefs and he did say that a little facial hair did provide a better seal. Don't ask me how but he said it.
Someone tell that engine driver that he doesn't need to prime a pump on a full tak. Open your Tank to Pump valve, open the appropriate discharge, then throttle up to the appropriate pressure.
Wonder why they have a hose with an obvious puncture still in use? Why is there a "fireman" in shorts? Why do they not have a grab strap on the 5 inch hose that can easily be grabbed to deploy the hose instead of having to search for it?
Ladder Tower 4621 must cost a small fortune in blinker fluid, with all those lights.. Nice to see that crews keep on top of all their lighting, both passive and aggressive. Good turn out men, keep up the great standard.
Does anyone know or want to comment on exactly what was burning? That smoke didn't suggest much of a fire. I know a lot of people have different opinions on stretching charged vs uncharged but simple single story ranch like that I'd be stretching charged. You are entering on the fire floor or possibly into the actual fire room. If you had a multi story building or a really long stretch that would be more physically demanding I'd go in uncharged just for the ease of movement and the physical demand placed on the members but the line gets charged before entering the fire area or fire room. Not really sure why you need to prime your pump operating from the booster tank though. I'm guessing you keep your pumps drained? If the pump stays "wet" the nozzle man can bleed the minimal amount of air out, as they're supposed to anyway. One thing I didn't like here was the nozzle team went in while the pump was being primed. This should have been a concern, but when the pump was being primed a second time that should have been a red flag that there was a possible water supply problem. When the jacks started going out I was praying I hope they don't use the aerial here. Ground ladders are SO much faster especially on a single story house. Good truck guys could have 3,4,even 5 ladders up in the time it takes to just set the jacks. Very good job getting the ladder truck in there though. It just proves that there is no such thing as a truck that's "too big " for our area. Good operators can get the biggest trucks in the smallest spaces.
I see all these comments about not having water when you enter. How about the truck and rescue companies that do the primary and secondary searches? They almost never have a hoseline
Now to be fair: on the good side I was impressed as to how fast the attack team got a hose off the truck and went right in to knock the fire down.. this is I The 3rd time in a week I have watched a fire video where I have heard the truck operator trying to prime the suction pump. That just shows a lack of training...27 years and the only time I have Ever primed a pump was when using the hard suction out of a lake or pond.
Ronald Marshall, ya I was noticing the same on a few vids, should have head pressure from the tank, heck all we do is draft in my department, some times we even open the tank and flow water down the line to the dry hydrant if we are having problems picking it up. Would love to have a pressurized water source.
This is the reason people ask about departments being Volunteer or Paid! Many Volunteer do not get the chance at good training. Many show up for Mutual or Automatic aid but each have different SOP's/SOG's. Uncharged hoseline. Firefighter outside made no effort to hump hose, carries no tools, tighten the leaking couplings. A hairy guy, in the way, in shorts. East Allen pulls up with the Engineer in full gear INCLUDING helmet, no headsets? A 2nd crew goes interior with uncharged hoseline.
a couple of things I could see that needed some attention was for starters the accountability officer not wearing the full turn out gear. coat and helmet and that was it. Hate to tell him but our accountability officer went down at a working fire and luckly he had all his turn out on took a water stream blast from a ruptured line. Another poster I agree with they went into a burning building without charging the hose line. Ballsy but as you saw someone from the last call forgot to either tighten the couplings or the hose sprung a leak. And yes I've been at a call were the hose line busted and now what do you do. now you and 2-3 guys now need to fall back and replace the busted line or hope that a back up line is in place to take over but shit happens. One thing that I thought was missing was the fast team and where was command set up. other then those couple of things good stop.
Was that santa with really cool shades. Could nobody grab a spanner wrench and tighten the coupling. Good lord. Came up short on that supply line. Not bad i guess but that cool santa dude in shorts kinda blew me away.
Why in gods name would u put a tower up at a ranch style house?? And why in the HELL is there attack line leaking?? My god tell santa to grab two spanneds and tightin the coupling. Jeeeeze !!!
Wtf , why in the hell did they bring a tower in, its a ranch!!! Then different hose couplers needed, very bad. And biggest of all who the hell was that, kenny loggins???
Many fires in this area start as simple and routine yet end up surround and drown. This must have been fairly minor because the structure is still standing not gutted.
I ask you to explain. I am a volunteer firefighter and have only been for 2 and a half years. Im not asking this in an antagonistic way but in a "I want to be better way". I just wanna see if there are any more discrepancies that perhaps you saw or see that I don't
Somebody needs to do some training. And, will somebody....please tell them what a WORKING FIRE IS? Priming the pump twice, and men going in WITHOUT water is a joke.
I gotta tell ya, there is nothing worse in my eyes and seeing volunteer firefighters show up with their shorts on and then they go ahead and put a turnout coat on, I guess because they want everyone to know they’re a firefighter. There is no more unprofessional look then guys walking around with your shorts and tennis shoes on with the turnout coat on and this one guy here with a beard down to his chest, he probably hasn’t worn a SCBA in 30 years. I don’t know I just hate seeing it it looks very unprofessional, have more pride in your job than that! If you’re a volunteer and you’re gonna respond direct put some turn out gear in your truck or car and put it on when you get there what happens when one of your brothers need you inside in an emergency and you’re standing out there with the turn out gear and shorts on. Be prepared guys because shit can go south in five seconds flat
COMPUTERZONEOFPA for what? It's a single story building...I'm a truck guy and we would never set the truck up for that. That's what ground ladders are for.
cuttinNtruckin24 it's a Running (joke/jab) anytime i see a Truck/Tower pull up the front of the (structure), from Whitehall township days, search for ( 3631 - Whitehall Township Municipal building). 😁
