We are a premier provider of heat reflecting solar screens in Central Texas (Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown MSA area). We utilize several attachment methods for solar screens. Our primary attachment method is to “Pre-Drill” our screen and window frames and secure the solar screens with machine screws, NOT self-tapping screws. Self-tapping screws are good for some applications but have a tendency to bend the solar screen frame. We utilize at least 6 screws per solar screen and attach directly to the window frame. This creates a better seal. Feel free to peruse our website at www.SkinnersScreens.com or watch our other DIY or solar screen videos for more information.
If you would like to request a free estimate, please contact us via our website www.skinnersscreens.com, Google Business, RU-vid, Yelp, Nextdoor, or just call our office at 512-863-5145. We also service Marble Falls, Kingsland, Burnett, Horseshoe Bay Area and have an office in Marble Falls.
Check out our other company, Apex Roofing, at www.apex roofing companies.com if you need a roof tune-up or a new roof. We are A+ rated with the Better Business Bureau and 5 star rated on Google, Angi, and Yelp.
Thanks for watching, call us for your screening needs and subscribe if you like.

You didn't mention the type of screws you used. I'm assuming metal screws?

Yes, sheet metal screws. Not self tappers. #2 Phillips #8 screws

3/4” in most cases; 1” in some larger frame pieces

Seems like a lot of work, especially if we got 20+ to install, why not use self tapping screws?

Great question. Perhaps we will try it. Thanks

Do you recommend putting some silicone in the hole so no water gets in?

We have never done that or recommended silicone on screws. The windows have weep holes built in to allow moisture a way out. It wouldn’t hurt I suppose

@@SkinnersScreens1972 thank you for your quick response. My window frames are solid aluminum like a square tubing all around. They look like what you would find in a commercial store or restaurant. I really hate em...

Is it safe to drill into the window frames have you ever accidentally broke the glass?
@SkinnersScreens1972

@ethanallen9751, it is safe to drill the frames as long as you know where to drill. Yes, we have accidentally drilled into the glass and had to replace it for the customer.
