@@dafnefreitas2443 thank you. This is something I have always wanted to do. Currently struggling with college classes but I will not give up. How many semmesters have you already done?
I’m entering my second semester of undergrad at 28 years old. I was pre-nursing but I’ve always wanted to become a Anesthesiologist. Decided to major in microbiology because it’s fascinating to me. Your very inspirational! 💜💜💜
A lot of people have been talking me it’s impossible for me as a minority and as a student who didn’t do good their freshmen year of highschool but my teacher has told me she sees something so bright in me that I can’t see and she can’t see me doing anything different and neither can I this video was pretty inspirational and motivating for me 😁
I’m a senior in high school I’m also the oldest and first generation in my family I’m so confused on what to do because I have no help from my family I want to become a surgeon and my dream medical school is UCSF I know it will be hard but I just hope I can make it
Nani, you will absolutely make it! Set goals for yourself and work to start reaching them. Being first generation, a lot of things you will learn along the way, and yes, there will be obstacles, but you can overcome them. You are already off to a good start by watching videos like these on RU-vid and trying to make your dreams happen! I have faith in you 💛💛
high school senior, 18 years old. I would love to see more videos on medical school and how you got where you are. love your videos, please keep making them. xoxo
I’m so confused on what to do with my life. I’m just watching a bunch of career stuff and came across this. Very useful and I might end up actually do this 😌
WOW!!! This was so informative and interesting to listen to. You’re such a great speaker that knows word for word. I’m a freshman in college as of right now majoring in Biology BS. I definitely wrote a few things down to do for this year and the following. Thanks for the guidance and I hope you yourself is killing it in the world right now!
This is absolutely amazing seeing a WOC so passionate about helping others get to the place you are. I’m a high school student and my goal is to become an Emergency Medicine Physician! Love the video❤️
ty! i’m very passionate about learning about how to become a doctor! i wanted to have everything set for my future as I am 13 years old! i’m confident i’ll become a surgeon so i’ll be back once I achieve great things :)
It is awesome that you already know what you want to do so early. Don’t let anyone discourage you from what you want. If you are 100% sure you want to be a doctor you can do it in less time by applying to a BS/MD or BA/MD school. It will allow you to get your biology AND Medical degree in just 6 years
thank you so much for this video ! i'm a high school senior and just committed to a university and highly considering pre-med. this helped me immensely with my decisions !!
I'd be curious to know more about your experiences as a black woman in the medical field if that's ever something you feel comfortable talking about! (A fellow black girl interested in going on the pre-med track)
Hi Julia! I’m going to be a freshman in college this fall. I’m majoring in Integrative Neuroscience on the pre med track. I really liked this video, and I’m excited to see your upcoming ones. :)
Hi Hope! Thank you so much for watching my video :D My new video is dropping in about 15 minutes, and it is all about how to secure a 4.0 GPA in college. Check it out! I wish you the best of luck, and whatever you need, always feel free to reach out and let me know! I look forward to following your journey & seeing you flourish ❤️
Hey, I'm a Freshman in high school. Just watching this video so I can get what's going to be ahead of me. I hope I can do it! Thanks for the video :). I was wondering if you can do a series of things we can study in order to be set off on the right foot.
Thank you so much for watching! I can definitely do a video on things to study and steps to take early on in the journey to get you off on the right foot. Good idea! 👏🏽🙏🏽
@@thejuliacarter I’m a sophomore in high school and I have no clue where to start and I want to go to UC Berkeley but it has such a low acceptance rate and then medical schools are even lower..I’m scaring myself!!
Idk if I’m the only one who feels this way, but I feel like I’m not cut out to become a doctor but I want to be a doctor and I’m just in a place where I’m wondering if I should or shouldn’t apply for med school
you control who you are and who you become as a person. if you feel like becoming a doctor is right for you, give it your all and watch your hard work pay off. i wish you all the best
Exactly as Daniel said! YOU control your fate. Reach for the stars, and do not be afraid to pursue your passions and what you really want in life. You absolutely ARE cut out to be whatever you want.
I will always advocate for following your heart and dreams, Basetsane! If a doctor is what you truly want to be, then let's make it happen. Don't get discouraged. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and people who are more than willing to guide you on the process. Let me know if you have any questions or wanna chat!
Awesome video. I'm a premed currently studying at Rutgers University(undergrad). I came across this video and was wondering if you could do a video talking about the pros and cons of specifically the Rutgers NJMS program. This is one of the schools that I am looking at applying to along with some others.
im really passionate about going to med school and becoming a pathologist but im really shy and I HATE IT, i always turn red/sweat when ppl talk to me and it’s something i can’t control :((
I’m 22 years old. I’m currently a pre nursing major but I’m considering pre medicine because that’s what I’ve always wanted to do. I’m meeting with my professor tomorrow to get advice from her.
Thanks Aliyaa girl 💛💛 Good luck to you! Let me know if you have any questions or if there is any videos you would like to see from me to help you in any way
hey love! I loved this video! I’m a senior in high school & I have to register for my college classes but not sure what classes to take since I am taking the pre-med track. How did your freshman year of college classes looked like? Would love some advice. Thank you!
I’m sooo glad I clicked on your video. I’m looking to transitioning into medicine and hoping to get into premed. I have my BA in Psych already and wished I would’ve started medicine first but 🤷🏽♀️. I’ve been working in the ID/DD field since I was 20. I also have no medical/ health personnel in my family so it’s kind of nerve wrecking to get into this new world. Thanks for this video!
My career path has kind of been all over the place. I have an Associates Degree in Theatre Performance. For the past few years, I've wanted to join the police. Recently though, I got out of an abusive relationship. He was a police officer and a USMC vet. He suffered from severe PTSD from war and eventually snapped and pointed his gun at me and later held me hostage in our home. This probably would have been prevented if he had taken care of himself and gotten the help he desperately needed. He's a felon now and the courts are forcing him to get treatment because he wouldn't do it on his own. Because of this, I'm thinking of becoming a psychiatrist who specializes in PTSD working with combat veterans and first responders. I thought about just being a therapist before but sometimes talking isn't enough and people need medicine, like my ex did.
Hey, Thank you so much for this, I am also a first generation who is going to graduate high school and I really appreciate you sharing this with me. I am really interested into the medical field and I am new to this. I’m currently studying to become a Medical assistant and I’m not sure where to go and what to do in college or university for pre med.
Hello, from Pittsburgh, Pa! I am a junior is HS and currently looking into my options. My goal is to become an ophthalmologist. Pre med path w English major (possibly) lol
Really great and helpful video!! How did you go through the process of shadowing a doctor? How far out from med school did you shadow? How did you choose who to shadow?
First gen and spent one year in a Agriculture major to realize it’s not for me. The school I currently attend if isn’t very poc friendly thought I’m sure there’s some good people there, but the disrespect form others and people who even look like me is too much. Im highly thinking about transferring to a school that’s more diverse, closer to home and changing my major to pre med. My gpa isn’t that great, but I will check out that gpa video!
Hi! I’m a highschool student going pre med in anesthesiology. Through highschool I’ve been super good with getting my homework in but with my senior year I’ve noticed extreme senioritize. I’m not sure if this is because of covid and everything we’ve had to deal with or what, but I scared going into such a major major and not ending up being prepared for cracking down on myself, how do I manage time? Like getting up early? How do I study and stay focused on studying? Does pre med school take all your time? Do you have time to hangout with friends, attend parties? Because I want to experience life through my young years but have a future for myself.
Hi Julia! This was such a great and informational video. I am currently going to enter my last year of high school and I am watching so many videos to get a feel of what to do in my undergrad years. Thank you for this video !
Please help me decide. I am fresh out of high school. I have early acceptance to a LECOM DO college. No MCAT needed. I am thinking should I take it or go traditional route and go for MD where I have to take MCAT and tons of volunteering shadowing and research and go through the grueling process of MD admissions. I am a shy person and afraid I won’t be able to shine in college especially with extracurriculars.
Hi New subscriber ❤️ I really love your videos , so amazing and helpful .im 17 and I want to go into medical school in the future 💖. I was just wondering at what age students get into (pre med) ? 20? and at what age do they begin medical school ?24?.i would love to know how old are you ? Keep on doing your thing 🌸.you are amazing and beautiful ❤️❤️
Hi, I begin college this Fall. I want to become a doctor and soon apply to med school, I’m taking a bachelors in health science. Is health science a good major to become a doctor?
I have a question, I am a senior in high school, wants to be a surgeon, is joining a nursing program good for me, will I be able to go to medical with that, and of course I will have to pass my MCA but I need help😰😰😰😰
I’d recommend majoring in a science like biology or biomedical sciences chem or a pre med program. Joining a nursing program won’t fully prepare you for medical school and the mcat.
It ain’t cheap to be going to medical school. Besides the tuition, how do you fare paying the rent each month, especially if it’s in NYC or LAX? They’re like around $2,500+ each month. I feel like med students contributes the most to our US economy, borrowing and lending $250,000 and that’s just from one person. Who pays for YOUR rent and boarding and food and car payments?
Hi Jen! I pay for all of my expenses. I have another video where I talk about getting a full-tuition scholarship to medical school - so that helps significantly with paying for the expensive cost of my education. I use my stipend, my work-study income, and loans to pay for my cost of living and other expenses. My rent is not that high because I live in NJ, and I have roommates. So it's all about budgeting and trying to not take on any ADDITIONAL debt.
Hi, sorry for disturbing, but I wanted to ask. What grade did you get for all the pre-requisites? I am a pre-med, my major is Biology. Conversions are killing me. I am so scared. I don’t want to fail. I would love to be a pediatrician
I’m 23, and found out I was pregnant. I’m kinda dismayed in my journey towards becoming a doctor but I love your videos! I also follow you on Instagram and I think you have a tik tok? I want to become a Neonatologist and I’m super excited but I’m not confident in my transcript whatsoever…I made the decision to switch majors. Though, law offered me a bunch of opportunities it was really just boring to me.
Hi! I’m a senior in high school wondering which should I choose nursing or pre-med? I looked into pre-med but biochemistry, Physics, and chemistry aren’t my top best. Could I go into nursing on a pre-med track?? I need advice one this please 😔
You’re so inspiring! It’s just I don’t know how I’ll be able to afford med school. My mom only makes like 11k a year and my gpa isn’t great. I got into a lot of colleges but I’m just worried how I’ll do and how I’ll pay it. I think I can get though bachelors. I plan on doing a biology major on premed track but I have to keep a 3.0 gpa to stay in the premed program. I don’t know how to study and I procrastinate. I’m extremely interested in the human body so I think I’ll do well in that part. I just hope I work as hard and I can get a full ride for med school.
I am majoring in healthcare administration, graduation is on January 2023, should I apply to medical school or should I pursue my masters degree first? Is healthcare administration bachelors of science a good premed major to get into medical school and do I still need to complete prerequisites for medical school? Where do I take these ...at community college or another place?
Hi! I am from Chile and I want to go to study medicine in the United States, I was wondering if courses can be shortened? for example, take more credits one year and instead of doing it in 4 years the bachelor degree can do it in two, and the medical school in 3 I know it's extreme but I feel like it's too many years
I want to attend Southern University a&m College in Louisiana. I know it’s not big on medicine but I would really like to go there. Do you think I’ll have a chance of getting into medical school if I go to Southern and study pre-med? I plan on getting my masters right after my 4 years at a university in Texas maybe Texas a&m, Baylor, rice, UT, etc. Thank you for the video as well❤️Very informative. I hope you answer😩
Medical schools don’t care what school you went to for undergrad they care about what you did while you were in undergrad like grades, mcat scores, extracurriculars, etc
I am a biochem major and premed and I'm not sure if i should change my major to Biology if i should just keep it the same. I just want to make sure i'm prepared for med school and the MCAT
MY advice: general Biology is the "easier" route that is more broad, not as intensive as biochemistry, and will prepare you for the MCAT. Biochemistry is more difficult, however, I think students who majored in it had an easier time with the MCAT because they had a much more thorough understanding of the fundamentals. Either option will get you there, it just depends how much coursework that you think you can handle and whether you want to put the work in NOW (biochem) vs LATER (MCAT studying) for solidifying those MCAT concepts.
Absolutely! Because of medical school being so competitive, you should actually apply to multiple schools (schools you would actually want to attend) to increase your chances.
Hey can you tell me the duration of pre med .... I am a Canadian citizen currently done with class 12 in India ....I want more to know if carribean school Is a good option since one of my dad's friend adviced us not to take carribean med school n instead go to Canada n start with the pre med
Hi Emetis! Which high school you go to doesn’t matter AS MUCH as your SAT score. Of course, there are prestigious high schools that have a well-known reputation and are highly favored, however, as long as your grades and scores are good, you will be able to get into a good college! I went to Hazleton Area High School in Pennsylvania.
@@thejuliacarter thank you very much!my decision for highschool was ao fast and unexpectedly this month that i couldnt send my application to some school because of the deadline!but i found a school that i think I’ll get into the name is BMHS from amerigo company..is that a good school? Can i get into good colleges if i get a good grade in them?
The more I get these information that college really is a place, a time period where young adult gets to be a full grownup and discover himorherself, I cannot be astonished more that my mom, I call her a biological mother even though she's my only mother, to be separated from her even subconsciously, crossed the line numerous times nagging about my life decisions, when she's just a high school graduate. She pretends she knows everything about college life and college itself, and the life of people who has gone through this mainstream success route, but the reality is she knows nothing. AT ALL.
Thank you so much! I wanted to know if I could major in business and complete the prerequisites for medical school at the same time? Like take the courses the medical school is asking for but at the same time specialize myself in something else. Would that work?
I believe you can. Pre-Med is not a major, there’s just requirements in order to apply for Medical School along with volunteering, internships, and MCAT scores, letters of recommendations, etc. You have to complete a B.A majoring in whatever. Keep in mind that there are medical schools that like certain B.A majors than others.
Hi if you're comfortable how long did it take you to graduate with your bachelor's degree? I'm planning on taking psychology major on a pre med track and it is giving me the jitters to have too many classes/credits bc of the pre med requierments
@@thejuliacarter ah thankyou!!! So it *is* possible!! You've been so helpful and have definitely calmed my jitters! Congrats on all you've achieved! You are definitely an idol!
It would be nice if you got to the point and not beat around the bush I do not mean this in a rude way I'm just not getting the point of this video because you are going in a round and about way
Thanks for the feedback! This was my first ever YT video. You can continue watching the video for the free value provided or move on to another channel. Thanks!
@@thejuliacarter No problem and I really hope you are not offended by my choice of words. It was just getting confusing and I'm sure it took you a lot of effort but just try to be more straightforward in your videos and focus on the subject matter so that people get the point easily emphasis on "easily" And success on your journey of being a doctor
