This video was 3 years ago, and maybe things have changed since, but the duties/responsibilities is 600 INCLUDING spaces.

I wrote my experiences and how they related to med school for my committee letter application. It took a lot more thought and reflection, but it definitely pays off :) Nice video James!

Hey James! Thanks for the tip about listing experience based on importance, I would have listed them in chronological order! One question about listing the duties/tasks of the experience. Would you suggest typing it out in paragraph form leading into the skills that would benefit you as a PA or would you list the things in bullet form?? I'm debating bullet form as if it were a resume and it's short and too the point but I feel like a paragraph form would allow me to elaborate a little on it? Thanks!
@JamesKim
@JamesKim 7 лет назад
Hey Leeta! I wrote my experiences in paragraph form! I think paragraph form is a great way elaborate more :)

I haven't started CASPA yet, but I have been trying to stay on track by gaining more experience. Is it okay that I average the amount hours I have had at a specific location and multiply it with the number of weeks? If so, The calculation seems way over the amount versus if I had counted just counted the hours. Am I overthinking this?Help!

Which PA route do you think is better a bachelors degree and then a PA program or a 5-6 year direct PA program?
@JamesKim
@JamesKim 7 лет назад
Hey Niya! If you are 100% sure PA is what you want to do then the 5-6 direct PA program is the quickest route and route that I would recommend. If you're unsure, I recommend getting a bachelors first!

Is there a section in CASPA for Committee Rec Letters?

A week before CASPA opens and I feel terrible that I don't have a personal statement written yet. I don't have one defining moment/story that made me decide PA is the route for me....thus I'm not sure how to structure and what to focus my statement on. Do you have any tips?
@JamesKim
@JamesKim 7 лет назад
I didn't finish my personal statement until mid May so take your time and try to just get your thoughts on paper. You don't need one life-changing moment to know you want to pursue PA. I didn't have one defining moment as well but I included all the experiences that led me to PA whether that was shadowing a PA, working in underserved areas, working as PT aide, etc. Just do your best to get started, keep brainstorming, and stay positive!

A-Disappointed-Sigh I haven't written mine yet either and I'm applying this cycle! I have a pretty good idea of what I want to say. That's going to be my next hurdle to tackle. Best of luck with your app!!!

Maybe I'll get lucky and you'll see this...did you list PT aide/tech as patient care or healthcare experience? I work in the same position but it feels like a stretch to call it patient care experience. Thanks!

Hey James! I have a question and I can’t seem to find the answer anywhere! I’m about to start applying for this upcoming cycle and I was wondering when listing the hours for each experience, do you list only the hours you’ve completed at the time you’re sending the application? Or is there a place where you could specify your intention to complete even more hours? For example, if I’ve completed 1600 PCE hours by May, but intend to stay at this job for the foreseeable future, do I just not list an end date? Will it just calculate the hours I’ve completed, but still be clear I’m earning more as the application process goes on? Thanks!! Love these videos, they are helping me SO MUCH!

James Kim wow that's nice man! I had a question, do you have to major in a science, such as biology? I want to do PA, but wanted to major in computer science cause of my interest in it. Is that fine?
@JamesKim
@JamesKim 7 лет назад
As long as you complete your pre-reqs required for PA school, you can major in anything you're passionate about like computer science! Best of luck!

Can a letter of recommendation be added after submitting CASPA? CASPA requires 2 letters of recommendation to be complete, but my program requires 3 letters. Can I go ahead and submit my application with 2 and then add the third before the program due date? Or should I wait until I have all 3 letters of recommendation to submit the application?
@JamesKim
@JamesKim 5 лет назад
Hey! I would personally wait to have all 3 before submitting! I don't know if you can submit to a program if they require 3 and your CASPA only has 2 LORs!

someone I know told me that he was going to fluff the shadow hrs he has had. like saying you shadowed when in reality you interacted with a nurse or a pa and what not. what are your thoughts about this honor system allowing room for fraudulent activity by the applicants? do yiu think it is fair for some appicants to lie their way into an interview or PA school? i know shadowing is not a crucial component when it comes to the application requirements but is it ok for people to put fake hrs and experiences when others may have had to put more effort and determination to get those extra experiences? I would love to hear your thoughts about this!
@JamesKim
@JamesKim 7 лет назад
I don't think applicant's should fluff their hours. It's definitely important to gain those necessary hours to really make yourself a competitive applicant. If an applicant doesn't necessarily remember the exact hours and they guessimate their hours, I don't think that's a problem but if they fluff it a few hundred hours over, then it becomes an issue!

Hi! I am a student coming from a fashion design industry background. So I have to fulfill many prerequisites before applying to PA school, wondering if people would be interested in hearing my journey, because it'll be so different than many people who are already within a science/liberal arts background.

Hey James I've been wondering for quite a while if i should major in psychology or apply for nursing school. I do plan on applying to the PA program. If I was to get into nursing school would that be a bad idea since I may be taking someone's spot who was looking into being an RN?
@JamesKim
@JamesKim 7 лет назад
If you think RN is the route you'd like to go to gain clinical experience before PA school, then I recommend it! Make sure you absolutely enjoy it though!

From what you know how much would I spend my first semester of PA school? Not including tuition and I know it depends on the program you get accepted into but just an estimate from what you know!

I'm not too sure about that :/ I can let you know when my first semester starts in June/July!

does the experience have to be recent or can it be from a year ago. Also should I list only the experience and duties that will apply to PA?
@JamesKim
@JamesKim 7 лет назад
Hey Cheryl! You can list experiences as far back as you want! As long as you feel like it will make your application stronger and stand out! Doesn't necessarily have to relate to PA - I listed my intramural basketball and other non-medical/healthcare related experiences!

So when I entered in my experiences CASPA listed them chronologically for me based on what dates I entered. Is there a way to be able to list them differently?
@JamesKim
@JamesKim 7 лет назад
Hey Dani! I just looked over my experiences too and it looks like they changed it so it is listed chronologically now! For my cycle, they were listed in the order we inputted them in!

Hey James, I am attempting to list my experiences based on importance but it seems to be alphabetizing them and not leaving them in the order that I want them... Did you experience this at all???
@JamesKim
@JamesKim 7 лет назад
Hey Logan! I believe they classify it automatically as alphabetical or by date!
@loganellis5974
@loganellis5974 7 лет назад
Yeah upon further investigation they are organized chronologically. How then did you manage to organize them in order of most to least influential? I'd love to organize it like that if possible!
