Number one thing about hanging a tree stand is - you don't hang them in rotting or dead trees. Although that tree might not break, but it might with someone in it . The extra weight from the stand and the person, and the back pack might be enough to cause that part of the tree to snap, in a wind. - Note to OsceolaLongBeard. Stalking is the old way to hunt. Modern equipment, the compound bow, ladder stands, hang on stands are the true tool of the modern successful bow hunter. I am part Cherokee/ Afro/ American, and a bow hunter only. If one is luck or wealthy enough to have great tools, and a place to hunt, with food plots, then don't knock them. If you are luck enough to have a place that has a lot of deer to hunt, then you might be lucky enough to stalk through the woods and take one the old way. But more times than not, you're going to be unsuccessful, and you're going to end up getting you're meat from the store. It's hard enough to hunt the most cagiest animal in the woods from above, in tree-stands than to try to sneak up on him, or her, with six eyes and three noses from other deer, always on alert to danger. You will be just about as successful trying to sneak up on Bigfoot as a whitetail deer; while still hunting. Yes, in still hunting, you will appreciate killing deer by stalking because you might be starving to death by the time you get one. If you had to depend on that method for your food; other than squirrel, and grass, and fruit trees. Stalking is the way of not to be to be successful about 95% percent of the time. If you hunt from the ground with a longbow or a re-curve the percent comes up to about 97%. Dragging out a 250 pound buck from deep in the woods is no fun. It's hard work. I have a little Suzuki Samurai 4 wheel drive. That's made my deer hunting more successful. It carries my stands , my saws, and my bucks out of the woods. You keep doing it the old ways, but for me; to hell with the old way. If the Indians of old had the equipment, and knowledge that we have today, their lives would have been much easier. Ishi, the last Yana Indian had to come out of the woods into the modern world, because he and his cousin shot arrows at some men that were surveying. The men were startled because at that time there were no primitive Indians left in the wild - they thought. They ran away and came back with the sheriff and armed men, and found his hunting camp, and took his tools - his bow and arrows. He had skills that I am sure you do not have, but if that's the way you like to hunt - more power to you.

Always carry your cell phone with you in a backpack in case of an emergency. Don't leave it in your truck.
@1234tric

All ways carry it on you in a place where it can't fall out of your pocket, in case you have an accident. Get a small safe fanny pack and keep it in it, and on you, and not hanging on a bow hanger, or on a branch. It has to be where you can get your hands on it, effortlessly in case an accident occurs. Remember, that phone is your everything if you are hurt. keep it safer than you keep your self.

Your supposed to use a fully body harness not a belt
@1234tric
@1234tric 6 лет назад
You R right. None-the-less, I use only a line's man belt when hanging stands and putting up climbing sticks. I always use them. It is 100 negative to just use the belt. Total safety is to use them with the harness. This season I will use both. Thanks Dude for reminding us all.

@AuhFricah I walk into the woods....i dont drive trucks and 4 wheelers in. I stealth in undetected. It's the true way.Most American Indians would spit at anyone who used a horse while hunting turkey or deer. stalking is the way to due things. work for your kill, you will appreciate it more. if you cant drag it out without help or a machine, you need to get out of the woods.

Total bull shit my friend. I hunt in places that perfectly good roads go completely through the forest. By the time you walk far enough in, to realize the turkeys are another day away down that road, on that food plot that you will never reach walking. Remember Indians lived with the deer and the buffalo, and the turkeys. The Indians didn't have to put up with bullshit like locked, and blocked gate entrances, blocking them from getting to the game, as we do in every forest where we are supposed to have total access to game. However, we are locked out with signs on roads that say no vehicles. I don't need stealth, I just need to get where a turkey is. I can't do that if all the damn roads and gates and entryways are locked and posted, keeping me from getting close enough to see a deer or a turkey.

Sitting on a food plot is not hunting

Jack Chapman Every hunting video I’ve seen on you tube is over a food plot or crop field. These people have no idea what real hunting is all about. It’s more like shooting a cow in a pasture field. Get back in the freaking woods!

You preach a great game, about a linemans belt and safety. On your second Treestands setup, you go up your ladders without a linemans belt. Good info, poor message, to action!

We are all brothers and sisters in christ, i do not agree with your view on hunting but i dont hate you for it. If you have ever opened a bible you should know that God would not want you to hate your brother and he definitely wouldnt want you to wish death upon them.

The excuse of less car accidents is bullshit, but so is saying this is animal cruelty. Humans were doing this for thousands of years.
