Mercury Acetate is: C4H6O4Hg while Mercury Iodide is: HgI2. Mercury Acetate simply has no iodine and is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis; while Mercury Iodide is a semiconductor material, used in some x-ray and gamma ray detection.
