I got a mill!
Getting a milling machine has been on my wishlist for over 20 years. Purchasing one has fallen through so many times over the years, I was beginning to think it was never going to happen.
This is a "quick" video of how I unloaded, and set it in place.

Very nice, congratulations ! I know you will make the very best of it and use it to the fullest extent possible. Dakota approves I'm sure. The ducks I don't know about ?

Dude! :) when moving large heavy object like this, clean the floor as you did, then use some steel pipes or bar as rollers. I used 1" bar and a wood broom stick to move my PM1127 lathe ('bout 500lbs) With only 3 bars, and a helper to move them as you go along, the whole distance could be made in about 5 minutes. Your idea of using a come along wasn't bad, just tedious. Also, when it comes to move precisely a machine in it's final position, I use two thick steel plate covered with grease between them on each corner, or landing points, then with just a small crowbar you can move a 2 tons machine precisely where you want it. Then just lift each corner to remove the plates. Still glad for you, I have a PM833 and had to dismantle it in main pieces to get it in my basement! Did the same with the lathe, had to dismantle to get it down the stairs. THAT was a bit hectic! :) Cheers!

Glad we got the flashback on the mill's arrival. It was a shocker when it appeared for the first time on camera. :)

Fair play to you, I love the inventiveness of men at home getting stuff done on their own. Basic tools and patience you can get so much accomplished. There is a whole community of us out there worldwide there really is.

Just ordered a PM 727V last week. Delivery due around Christmas time. Lots of work to do cleaning up the shop to receive it. Not as heavy but will still need an engine hoist to move it. Some good tips. Enjoy your new tool and thanks for video. Subsequent to this original post it's now August/September 2022 and I still don't have my mill. The 935 I ordered originally they ran into some problem with motors, delivery, covid, time of day or the direction of world rotation. Who f---ing knows. I changed the order to a 932, not my first choice obviously but they told me in July that it would be leaving China in August. Well as of Friday 26th no word as to when it'll be on the water. I'm getting older and I'd sure like this before I fall off the perch so to speak so for now it's "hurry up and wait". 🤔🇨🇦🍌🇺🇦🕊️👍

You’re looking at a 1,000 lb machine. I’ve had my PM932 for 2 years. I used an engine hoist to move it into position. I really like my mill. Before moving into position, I took the covers off to look at the gears/shafts for the head and below the table. I found lots of sand mixed in with the grease and in the corners of the casting supports. Glad I didn’t run it for a year and then decide to check it. Highly recommend cleaning from top to bottom and applying new grease. Happy with PM’s service and them setting up the DRO. Recommend downloading the US version of the MM on their web site. Thinking about installing a 90mm angel eye to the bottom of the quill for more lighting, in addition to my LED lights on each end of the table. Good luck with your new mill.

Nice mill. I have the pm940 which is the pm932's big brother. I have it torn apart right now and measuring so I can convert it to cnc. Besides, it needs broken down and cleaned and re-assembled. It's important to go over all the screws and bolts because most of them are loose.

It helps to have big friends with big equipment when you are moving stuff around like that. My son has a Bridgeport and another mill that looks like a Bridgeport. A skid steer or fork truck makes it easy to move them. When he got his big lather (4500 lbs) he used his skid steer with 4400 lbs tip and had a friend with a 9500 lbs tip skid steer over to pick it off of the trailer.

i just replaced my back covers with a salvage tred mill belt.its got to be the best cover i have ever used,the chips do not stick in the cover at all.savaged about 15 feet x 24 inches.tough material.used some 1 inch flat bar across the top to get the full width protection.

Amazing what one man can do when he sets his mind to it. What was the total time to move it across the floor? P.S. Consider ice under the plywood next time.

I bought the same mill and I'm waiting for delivery 1st of October.I have my shop in a 2 car garage that I added 12 feet across the back of. I'm wanting to put the mill and a gunsmithing Lathe back there , the problem is a 3 1/2" step up in the back of the garage floor and a 30" walk through door. Do you think I'm going to have to widen the door .

Enjoy your new toy, it's long overdue. One bit of advice would be, think about raising the whole thing up as there is nothing worse than bending over a hot mill for hours and keeping concentration.

Maybe a little delayed, but still pertinent. Lathe is half the shop, rest is mill. Since it will drill holes it largely replaces the drill press. Interesting lesson of how to move heavy stuff.

If I were you, I would put non flammable fibreglass insulation bats in the timber wall, between the studs, then I would line that wall with something like flat galvanised sheet metal. On heavy cuts that mill with throw hot metal chips everywhere but particularly behind the mill. If enough of them fall into the horizontal overlap between the weather boards - you might finish & go to bed while the residual heat in the chips sets the weather boards alight! 😳😳👎 Try to make that wall behind the mill flame proof to shed the chips onto the concrete floor for easy clean up & to eliminate fire risk. Also install a dry powder fire extinguisher on that wall within easy reach, just in case of worst case scenario. And don’t do like me and start a fire installing the brackets for the fire extinguishers! 😂😂🙄👍🇦🇺
@WideVisionMetalFab
@WideVisionMetalFab 3 года назад
The plan is put Rockwool in the walls, then 3/4 plywood, then 14 gauge sheet metal 5 foot high all around the garage. But, it's been 2 years and it still hasn't happened! sigh. I have a couple Halon extinguishers within reach. A fire when installing an extinguisher? That's the definition of irony! :)
