Yeah I know about getting OCD about barrels. I was given some 870 Remington part from a gun club in Spain that was closing, and one part was a neglected 12 ga 30 in barrel , I kept all these part in a draw for 30 plus years, couple of years ago I build the shot gun. I bought a reciever from a guy in Alabama, and piece of forearm of ebay and started putting the gun together. Well here is the rub, the barrel was so full of lead, the barrel was completely Grey. I took a carbon fiber and cleaned the bore with some lead firearm cleaner and eventually the chemical soaked into the brass fixture on the rod and the rod fell apart, I finished up with another rod and repaired other. I will tell you the barrel is clean. I was all lead.fouling, the barrel was a older barrel and was used with fiber wads. I turned this shotgun into a old school Trap gun. Sorry for dirty shotgun barrel story.
This is my 2nd video of yours I've watched, and I'm hooked! I've got a Savage 12 LRP 6.5 Creedmoor with the MDT ESS. It really likes the 147 ELD-M. Pushing 2850 with hand loads and a jagged hole at 100yds. I don't have access to anything longer than 300yds in my area so I can't really test it to any considerable distance.
Thanx for your feedback. I personally shoot the 147gr ELDM in my Howa 6.5 Creedmoor and also the 153gr A-Tips. Have never had issues stabilizing the heavier bullets and get good groupings. Also a firm believer of heavier bullet and better BC.
regarding the settings back barrel because of jump.. dont. there is much evidence and studies that show that bullet jump is at best marginaly on accuracy. You can find loads and bullets that work in all manners of jump. Im used to the 6.5x55 and it has milimeters of jump (0.05-0.10") and it has superb accuracy. Putting stuff close to the lands are not a guarantee for accuracy. Just adjust seating depth and load, you will find new loads that works as good or better.
Good day bro. I'm not sure if you already have a video on this but I already subscribed to your channel. I like MDT and already ordered some stuff from them to upgrade my hunting rife. however, I do want to get into PRS but way too much info out there and it looks like lots of $$$$$. Any advice if i have like $2000 dollars for rifle and scope. Not sure if I should begin with off the shelf rifle like a Tika T3 A1 or save more money for a custom rifle to begin PRS. I currently have a Howa 1500, 30R6, on a MDT LSS-XL GEN2 Chassis with a Vortex Scope. However, I do want to buy or build a 6.5 Creedmoor. Thanks for your time in advance. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL BRO. Thank you so much.
Saw both your questions, answer is same for each: let your rifle tell you. While some clean barrels proactively (choose any number), others won't clean until their accuracy begins to struggle. Insofar as barrel life, some find accuracy/ velocity suffers around 2000-2500 rounds, but it depends heavily on bullet type/ speed, even within the 6.5CM umbrella. Track chronograph data throughout the life of your gun, when you've lost 100fps or so, it might be time.
Re: the question about bullet weight was addressed in a podcast from the guy that founded Sniper's Hide. It's a very interesting listen. By all means listen to the whole thing, but the part I am talking about is 1:10 into the podcast linked below. www.griffinarmament.com/info/media/dwell-time-podcast/
Here is another podcast to listen to. Episode 249 is specifically about light bullets vs heavy bullets. The intro is kind of weird but it's definitely a good one. theeverydaysniper.podbean.com/
So, what is the largest caliber you see at these matches? Is anyone running .50 BMG or .416 Barrett? If I had the funds, could I run a Carl Gustav m/42 (20mm recoilless rifle?) I think a 1,650gr projectile traveling at ~3,200fps would be great for ELR/PRS.
What’s your opinion on the Vortex viper PST Gen 2 5-25x50? Right now with this cova 19 cant get the nightforce atacr 5-25-56 that I want I see a lot of good reviews on the Vortex saying it’s a way better scope for the money
Welcome to the channel Troy! Its a bit of a mixed bag at the moment, but we could say shooting provides for the family more than anything else at this point. Glad to have you here bud, bring your mates too!
Wish I had known about this q & a. I was wondering if you could provide some insight for me. My 6.5 cm has a 20" barrel. I have tried the 140, 147, 143, 120, 123, 129 and 130 grain bullets. My best results were with the 129 sst and 130 eldm. No matter what powder and seating depth I tried. Would these results be because of the length of barrel? Just curious about your insight.
hi Dan, i am no expert but shoot 65 cm Howa with 24" heavy barrel and 140gr ELDM bullets group to holes touching at 300 yards, you don't say if you have heavy or lite barrel? if lite barrel is the group opening after 4-5 shots as the barrel heats up, and what distance are you shooting? is the scope base screws still tight?have you rechecked the tightness of the action bolts ? do you reload your ammo? i found going to high a charge, but still in safe zone the groups opened, so dropped charge back to 38.8 gr AR 2209 POWDER. that is my sweet spot for my rifle with 140gr ELD Match. cheers john NZ
Hi Piet... vraag 1 : My Savage Accu trigger setting only goes down but I seem to fail at bringing it back up to the factory set trigger pull weight value. Vraag 2 : waaneer kom jag jy weer in Nam ?
