Full load test and comparison between the Predator 5000 generator and Cummins 4500 generator. Video discusses features and pros and cons for both. #harborfreight #generator #harborfreighttools #cummins @harborfreight
We have the Cummins and have no complaints. Works great with one 15k A/C. Wish the predator was available when i purchased. Would have loved the dual fuel
It's harbor freight, they sell plenty of tires and parts. You can definitely rig up something even cheaper than replacements. I will say that I keep mine in the back of my truck so it's been bumped around a ton, been pulled sideways a bunch and my wheels are still perfect. When I went to purchase the Predator 5,000 I was actually looking to buy the Predator 3,500 and I made a last minute decision to go with the 5,000 just because I could tell the 5,000 had WAY better quality wheels than the 3,500. Honestly the wheels are just a bonus, you could drag that generator around on the ground and it probably wouldn't feel much different than it does with tires. They're decent and rugged enough. I wouldn't worry too much about the tires. They'd be easy to replace with a few different tires that harbor freight sells.
Ideas for more info on predator: 1) Parallel kits for 50 amp output - can you run two different generators on this, for example a 3500 and x. 2) i am interested in having gen set up on camper that is national park compliant. What max predator, or combinations of predators meet the stated requirements of national park noise level requirements?
I tried a 3500 and a 2000 and bought the big connector between the two. But after reading the instructions it said they both had to be the same. So I returned the connector.
That’s understandable. Think it may be the luck of the draw with predator. I’ve got a 2000 predator I’ve had for 7 years. Haven’t changed the oil but twice. That’s laziness on my part but I use it for work and it just keeps working like a charm.
If your need IS 5000? Buy 8000... I bought one Westinghouse 9k... Lasted 2 years with break in, severe use. Bought 28000 Westinghouse runs até 35 percent up to 50 percent output, runs flawlessly with 6 thd on load.
Just bought the 5000 from HF…only 800.00 with a coupon. Have not opened the box just yet…hope to soon and get some hours in it in case I have any issues with it.
break it in with lots of oil changes. i have 2 3500 predictors both i changed the oil at 5 mins then 10 then 20 then 30mins and 1 hours at 2 hours i did the final oil change with no metal in it. take the used oil put it on a paper plate and look at it from all angles in the bright sun to look for metal shavings when you see none your good to go. i do oil changes every 100 hours they both run smooth with over 5k hours on both. when storing always run them dry.
So it looks like your victron does the same as mine. When you had yours set to 15 amp pull it was only pulling like 1100ish wattts but 15 amps is 1800 watts. For mine it seems to get stuck around the 12-13qmp mark. Meaning it should pull 1440 watts at 12 amps but mine would only pull like 800 or so. But as soon as I change it to 13 amps the wattage jumps way up like it was stuck between wattages. Seems like the victron has some weird stuff going on that maybe someone can help explain to me?
On one video here on RU-vid a guy ran a full bottle of propane for 9 hrs at half load. Gas I haven’t seen yet. But I will be camping soon with my 5000 and I should know more lol
Then you will need to figure out how big of one you need. Do you have central ac? Or window units. For a house you are going to need a 8000 watter for sure if you have a big house. If you don’t care to much about ac or use a window unit to cool down a room or two in the summer ( Which is what I do) then yes a 5000 will work limiting things running while start up occurs. Like I don’t run the ac and the microwave at the same time. I think it could handle it but I prefer to do it just in case
@@twaflyboy1 They are two legs of 120 at 50amps each.. It's a 240 volt plug and input.. Where as a 30amp is only one 30 amp circuit.. 100 amps, vs 30... That's why the 9500 doesn't care and works better.. It's able to put out more current over all .
Had to use my Predator 5000 last weekend after we had a power outage that lasted about 6 hours. Ran a window unit, refrigerator, some lights, tv and internet. Worked great.
Really like your Victron set up. Is that something that needs to come with the camper already installed? Or can I install that on my camper. I just bought a 2021 coachmen chapparal 5th wheel and looking to have a system like that to monitor and hopefully manage my electrical system like you can. Think that would be a possibility for my unit? I’m new to the RV world
You can most definitely order and install it yourself but you definitely need the knowledge in which there are quite a few videos on RU-vid about. And it’s pricey but worth it.
I asked about this generator in a fb group and a guy with a toy hauler claims he can run all 3 ac's plus everything else all at the same time without overloaded it. I'm confused
Is it me or are these two units cousins? The designs are practically identical, albeit with different performance targets. Almost like they’re the same components built to the same reference design inside very slightly different skins.
I do believe the reason the 9500 still has a 30amp plug but a bigger generator is because it's a 240 outlet which gives you 2 hot legs of 120 at 30 amps each.
Storage is more than likely a problem, but I would rather have two generators linked together, than to have one generator so if there was a problem, you’d still have some electricity if you were Boondocking. But that’s a nervous nanny talking ha ha
@@RockyRohde Well I tried this generator on my friends exact 1992 rig and it works on his air conditioner. Not sure if he has a Soft Start. Well I’m loving it 😍! Thanks for the video again.
I've owned 2 Preditor inverters. 2000, ad 4550. I've been using the 4550 for nearly a year and a half. 5 days a week, 5 to 8 hrs daily. It'll run my soft start ac unit, lights and 3/4 hr grinder at the same time I'm gong to step up to the 5000 simply because of the remote start.
What happened to going out camping anymore the trailer air conditioning shower all those computer crap microwave oven give me a break that's not camping😢 come camping with me hope you have a good backpack
Well my wife won’t do back pack camping so for her I have to have ac lol. But I do like to tent camp when the nights are cool. I can’t do hot weather camping anymore
