In this video I will show you how to Measure, Layout and bend an offset using the shrink method. There are a few ways to bend an offset that i know of i will show you in a couple of video's how to bend them. This is the shrink method and in my opinion the quickest and easiest way to bend an offset accurately and efficiently. In the video i gave you the multipliers, write them down or take a screenshot and keep them near you when working, i advise you to actually learn them not memorize them but learn them and look at the trigonometry table to see where they came from and how they relate to the trigonometry table. Those multipliers are actually the cosecant of the bend angles. Anyhow, keep those multipliers in mind and also the shrink values and don't forget that the shrink value are per inch or rise. So multiply the shrink by the amount of rise or offset you are making to get the total amount of shrinkage. If it doesn't matter to you if the conduit shrinks or not then you don't need to take it into account but it's good to get into a habit of calculating the shrink. Thanks for watching the video and i'll have more posting soon. If you have any questions contact me at any of the following. But the best way to contact me is on facebook. Stay safe.

Dude, your videos are awesome! I've been an electrician for 2 years... I've always wanted to know the formulas for conduit not "it'll work this way but we will just trim a little"
@TheArtOfConduitBending
@TheArtOfConduitBending Год назад
I'm glad you think that way early on. Don't listen to those type of mechanics that like to take the easy way out or don't put in the time to try at least to figure out the right way of doing things. I promise you that if you put a little effort now at the beginning of your career. It'll be so much easier later on. Once you know the formulas and you practice them it becomes ingrained like muscle memory. Some electricians feel like it takes to much time to try and solve a formula it in the field but it only takes a few minutes and when you install your conduit, the feeling of getting it right every time... There's nothing like it. That's what I'm trying to teach with my channel. You will learn every single formula to every bend I know. If you have any questions you can ask them on my discord server. It's still a new community but it's getting there. I'll post the link below. Thanks for watching I hope you find the help you need. discord.gg/aYxfw6Rc

if the jbox was slid back away from the obstruction lets say a couple inches would this method still work? would you still use your over all distance or would you use the distance to the obstruction? i only was taught how to measure from a box or coupling to the obstruction, make my first bend mark right after the obstruction, and then calculate my travel. then id cut off at the over all length needed. im trying to learn the shrink method now, as im getting back into doing industrial. thank you Mel.

your newest video you put out on choosing the offset angle for the depth of the offset, you had 3.8 in that video as the multiplier for a 22.5 degree bend. Your chart in the beginning of this one even shows 2.6 for each inch of offset. I think you somehow crossed the shrink for a 45 in your notes somehow. If you're like every other electrician, you use a 30 degree offset most of the time.
@TheArtOfConduitBending
@TheArtOfConduitBending 2 года назад
Yes I had to take it down immediately and fix the chart. It'll be back up hopefully later this evening or tomorrow. Takes a while to upload. I'm glad you caught it. I've been tired.

@@TheArtOfConduitBending I know the feeling brother! I just came off of a job doing 7 12's, and it was a refinery in Winnywood, Okla. and the stuff you breathe in out there had me sick most of the time. I was lucky to earn 5k the 4 weeks I was hired to the job. I was only able to work about 2 weeks of it. I really wish my body didn't react so badly to the chemicals in the air! I had found out about my 3rd week on the job that it is the 3rd most dangerous refinery in the nation! I had to wear an H2S monitor (2 parts Hydrogen 1 part Sulfate). It detects the oxygen in the air by my head! if it were to go off, I am supposed to go up wind until it stops. I was working 12 hours and driving 3 hours round trip and barely getting 5 or maybe 6 hours of sleep a day.

@@TheArtOfConduitBending you should go to an electrical trade show and talk to some vendors about getting a sponsorship deal with them for your channel. that would would enable you to make better content and they could potentially help you reach more people, with the possibilities about getting a book published opening up from there. personally i think more apprentices and electricians need to see your videos and im pretty sure everyone would like to see you take this channel as far as possible. i'll be recommending your channel to whoever i think will find it useful.

Could have put a connector in the box instead of just holding the pipe up to the box then laying it on the ping pong table

I apologize next time ill do that. The point was how to calculate and layout the offset. The end result wasn't really the point but i get it. Im working on re-recording all my videos in 4k with better angles and shot. Soon as the money gets right and the equipment comes in. Ill make sure the videos are professionally done.
