All right, so I went to the concert this week. I managed to keep 90% of the setlist as a surprise and it was awesome. I’ll make a video on that. My predictions were really close to the reality. There were two surprises included and one surprise excluded. Also note that after recording this video and based on the discussions in the comments, I did realize that WOTW would be included and The Parchment as I feared and discussed in the video would be too long and complicated for this tour.

When I saw them 86' Tampa, they ran a radio contest if you Won, they brought you on stage to sing that middle part of Loneliness of the long-distance Runner. it was like 5 winners up on stage. Maiden turned the lights on, and we all sang that part together. ~ good times
As someone who has never been and going for the first time in 2023. Those classics are what bring most people to the show. Imagine going for the first time and not hearing Hallowed Be Thy Name or The Trooper. I'm a huge IM fan so for me it would not be an issue if they played hidden gems only but my mate however is a casual fan. For them the classic songs just have to be there
This is exactly my issue. I've got tickets, it's my First ever IM show. Wanted to see them since i was young. I know this is a special celebration of these 2 albums, but i hope fans to begrudge me wanting to hear a handful of the classics that i love.
I understand the newer fans who want to hear classics. But that is the case always, whatever band or artist you listen the longer you have been a fan the more tired you get from the classics.

The promotional material suggests five songs from Senjutsu and five from SIT ("Samurai 5, Cyborgs 5") After that there won't be time for much. I expect them to do Hallowed, Iron Maiden, then encore with NOTB and The Trooper. I think the five from SIT will be the title track, Wasted, Stranger, Heaven and Alex.

It’s a cool list, but I think if you add the time, it gets too long. Normally adding the studio length of their songs adds up to 90-100 minutes, as they get older I’d bet on 90 max

Hallowed can easily be dropped. They’ve done it before I’m sure. As long as they play The Parchment I’ll be more than happy. Let’s face it SIT shits all over Senjutsu so why not play that in its entirety? Fear of the Dark and The Trooper would be missed but to hear Alexander the Great and Stranger in a Strange Land in their place would be good enough for me 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

A little long, but not much. I think this tour is perfect to revisit not only Somewhere In Time, but also other songs they've never played live. I guess I'm not the only one who would rather have that than having the same overplayed songs. Do I think they're really gonna do that? Of Course not, but you have to agree that would be awesome.
They should kick Fear of the dark out. Old school Maiden fans won‘t mind if it would be changed for an 80‘s song instead. I‘d be happy to have Caught somewhere in time, Wasted years, Stranger in a strange land and Deja Vu. Iron Maiden is a Must! Adding Aces high, Trooper and 22 Acacia Avenue. This would be my favourites. I don‘t think I‘ll get my alltime Favourite Song Rime of the ancient mariner.
I'd love to watch they play To Tame a Land, but since it's long and similar to Alexander The Great, I don't really see that happening. Also, are you Brazilian?

There's no way he can still pitch the notes on Rime, time to face the facts, the tempo is decreased on last tour and the songs are chosen the way to help Bruce endure. They are old but they still kick ass with a little help of keynote -1, and tempo -20 bpm ;)

Here are my two cents. Let's begin with Somewhere In Time (also my favorite Iron Maiden album) and I hope they don't try to play Caught Somewhere In Time, Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner or even Sea Of Madness. Not that I dislike them, quite the opposite. Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner is on my top 10 Maiden songs, Caught Somewhere In Time is knocking at the door and Sea Of Madness is close behind. The only problem with these tracks is how Bruce and especially Nicko will preform properly them live. I must remember Nicko himself admitted he struggled to play Stratego's pedal in the previous tour and how they had to slow down Aces High. Speaking of Aces High... Bruce's performance was also quite subpar (being the last track on the set made things even harder). Hey and that's no knock on either Bruce or Nicko... its completely understandable for two guys of their age. And taking in account the high level they still preform other Maiden tunes I think their still at great shape for their age. But fact is next year Nicko will be 71 and Bruce 65 and father time is undefeated. So let's see... Caught Somewhere In Time features some really fast pedal lines that make Stratego look like funeral doom... and the vocals are crazy difficult (to a point a 28 year old Bruce struggled to preform them in 1986), So I'm only seeing them playing this tune decently if they tune the guitars and bass in Eb (or even D) and really slow down the song. Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner is stupid hard ( IMO even harder than CSIT) to sing so spare Bruce from this one. Now Maiden playing in a slightly lower tunning is nothing that shocks me and I think it would still sound great (plus I'm sure Bruce would 100% nail every note if they did that). It's the the song's speed that really bother me. I don't want to see what happened with Aces High being done with CSIT: it would empty it of its intensity. Regarding Sea Of Madness I think it's a bit less difficult to sing than the other two in E ( yetstill really difficult) and although the pedal is still really fast I think slowing down this tune can work out since it's a really heavy song. I mean Maiden can go for it but I'm sure they'll struggle a lot. That being here is what I think will be the setlist more or less. Bear in mind I'm taking the "Cyborg 5 - Samurai 5" easter egg seriously (5 songs from SIT and 5 from Senjutsu) and half a dozen other classics: Somewhere In Time: - Wasted Years - Heaven Can Wait - Stranger In A Strange Land - Alexander The Great And then one out of these two: Deja Vu or Sea Of Madness (played slower). I'd go with slower Sea Of Madness but if it doesn't work then Deja Vu would make an entrance in the set. Senjutsu: - The Writing on the Wall - Days Of Future Past - Hell On Earth Plus two out of these five tunes: Senjutsu, Stratego, The Time Machine, Death Of The Celts and The Parchment. My picks would be Stratego and any other of the remainder but since Nicko said he had some difficulties while playing Stratego I have my doubts. Then I believe they'll play at least 5 of the must play classic tunes (usually Maiden are truly predictable on this department): - Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast - Hallowed Be Thy Name - The Trooper - Fear Of The Dark It may even be added a Seventh Son tune like the Clairvoyant or another usual tune like 2 Minutes To Midnight or even they continue playing Flight Of Icarus since it's Piece Of Mind's 40th anniversary, To be fair this is a mere guess and obviously I don't know what the band has in mind. And bear in mind this is not my ideal setlist. I would also love to see them preform the entirety of Somewhere In Time . But fact is they're no longer able to play certain parts properly. One thing is being a huge fan - as I am - and other is being delusional. And I prefer to see Maiden doing a solid performance with songs that aren't quite my favorites or may suffer from overplaying but songs they can still nail pretty well than seeing them struggle while trying to pull stuff that even back in 1986 was really hard to play live.
Nice to read from an objective view and not add unrealistic things to the set - kudos! I could talk about setlist for hours so I try to capsulize: No I can't squeeze it in a tight package 😬 I just say 2 Minutes To Midnight could well be the 2nd song and it makes sense as they probably wont play Stratego as you mentioned.
You are right. Caught Somewhere in Time is difficult for both Bruce and Nicko, but I think a somewhere in time tour without it will be lacking something. I believe it's a must play song. Bruce in 1986-1987 was having problems with many other songs that they still play nowadays. Maybe they play it right at the start now. Aces high last year was bad because they played it last and they were tired. In 2019 as an opening track it was OK.
@@johnthanogiannis4896 IMO Bruce started struggling with Aces High even in early 2018 due to touring fatigue. It's a really demanding song and yes... placing it at the end of the show was an error: not only did Bruce sounded tired the song had to be played waaaaay slower than the original because let's face it: Nicko is in its 70's. Now I completely agree that during the Somewhere in Time tour Bruce's voice was not on point and perhaps that's still a reflex of the wear and tear of the abusivelly extensive World Slavery tour. Hey I'll go as far as saying he wasn't completely recovered even during the Seventh Tour Of A Seventh Tour. But some of the struggles he faced during the late 80's was due to the fact he wasn't as technicaly refined as he was several years after. Bruce was used to be in top shape and the amazing belting capacity the man had on until 1985 took care of everything. When his voice got tired after such a gigantic tour and he was forced to make adjustments he didn't know how to pull it as well as let's say the first 6 years of the post reunion era. That being said and no matter how accurate your singing technique is (and Bruce's is top notch) the natural biological toll your body starts suffering at a certain age makes it ultra hard reaching certain notes you could reach back when you were younger. Caught Somewhere In Time, Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner, the chorus from Flash Of The Blade, The Duelists, Infinite Dreams, among others are songs that rely on pure explosion that erodes with aging and I believe Bruce would struggle hugely to pull them nowdays without a proper downtune. And there's nothing wrong about it... people get old. Then there's a major problem IMO. If downtuning a tone or even half a tone would allow Bruce to nail almost the entire Maiden catalogue when it comes to the drums there's no other way: either you can do it or you have to slow the tempo (which in certain songs completely drain the energy out of it). And let's just say that during the last tour Nicko had to adapt Stratego's footwork to a more simple pattern because it was getting hard for him to do it. Now imagine how would he struggle doing stuff like Sea Of Madness or especially Caught Somewhere In Time. And these struggles in the case of Nicko are even more understandable... for god's sake the man is 71! Anyways that's just my opinion. Peace... and up the Irons!

Other bands have playback drums etc. For one song I wouldn't care if maiden did that. Sea of Madness and LOTLDR are not essential. So I don't think there is any chance they play them. I believe they will do a version of caught somewhere in time to start the show. Maybe Bruce doesn't do the high notes at the end of the chorus. I don't know
@@johnthanogiannis4896 I would also love to see CSIT as an opener. But if they do so I hope they do using at least a playback pedal as you suggested and downtune the song a tone lower. IMO they should downtune every song...it would suit Bruce's actual tone so much better. Plus every single great Metal band from the 70's already did it like Judas Priest and Black Sabbath. And if it's true BS already disbanded Priest songs still sound amazing at a lower key.

There is usually atleast one irregular included, could be Futureal if they decide against playing CSIT. Easy for Bruce to sing and it really sets the audience aflame.

I'd keep it to 3 or 4 other songs(Outside Somewhere in Time and Senjutsu albums) my unbiased pics... Trooper, Number of the Beast, Iron Maiden(they can't stop themselves), and Powerslave or 2 Minutes to Midnight(have to play something from Powerslave Album I think) Darkhorse : I'd consider throwing in Wild Wind Blows. IF we really did what I wanted... I'd make hard cuts limit to 4.... Wrathchild(forget Iron Maiden the song), Die with Your Boots on, Powerslave, Wild Wind Blows. Why? Do you think they would ever consider a medley? I was pretty wasted but on the 2012 Maiden England tour I vaguely remember phantom of the opera kind of morphing into a bit of Alexander the Great and another a riff or 2 from some other classics songs. I could of just been hoping so hard to hear them play it, I could just have been high.
In my personal opinion I don’t see them doing medleys and there’s no record of Maiden ever playing Alexander live or parts of it. But if that’s how you remember, you are luckier than us 😂 so enjoy your memory, memories are anyways a recreation of the past through our own lenses 😉
I think the 5 Senjutsu will be: Senjutsu Strategy Writing on the wall Longest hour The parchment The 5 somewhere in time: Caught somewhere in time Wasted years Heaven can wait Stranger in a strange land/deja vu Alexander the great After that I think it will be 5 of the usual live songs so something like: Hallowed be thy name The trooper Iron maiden Fear of the dark Number of the beast I could be completely wrong. They might not even do 5 from each. It's just a pure guess going off how other people think it will work
i dont think that they will combine songs from just 2 albums for a summer tour. the future resembles 'senjutsu 'and the past resembles 'somewhere in time ' this seems obvious but seventh son or the evil that man do will be on the setlist. and also i think tere will be a song from ' brave new world ' because the record theme was a future consept. so my prediction list is ( independet of the appropiate order ) wasted years the evil that man do heaven can wait alexander the great stranger in a strange land hell on earth days of future past the writing on the wall death of the celts brave new world futureal ( this will be interesting ) fear of the dark iron maiden the trooper hallowed be thy name

In my honest opinion: to play the 3 longest songs from Senjutsu would be a disaster since people would get totally bored after 6 minutes of constant repeating the bridges and harmonics without singing or chanting- this happened on The Red and The Black song while they toured after releasing TBOS and it was really hard to bare during the concert. Secondly, classic cuts, probably mean classic cuts so Iron Maiden is a must, FOTD unfortunatelly in the bands and mgmts opinion is hot as hell, cause people are pretty much into it on concerts so it will be there- no doubt about it. Trooper is such a used song it should be considered as a nono, but... Alexander the great- nah I think they will not go for it, instead they will probably choose heaven can wait. I would'nt mind if they will leave aces high as a classic since people really freaked out with the remarkable view of spitfire above. So to sum up, I don't expect a total revolution but maybe some extra's, and I really hope that if they go for playing Senjutsu "epics" they will consider making them shorter onstage vs the records.
I hope they don't play Death of the Celts. That's a skip track for me every time. Alexander the Great would be brilliant. I just hope the stear away from playing both of Wasted Years and Heaven Can Wait, and perhaps play something else instead of one of these tracks. Sea of Madness would be fantastic.
I do like Death of the Celts but prefer the other epics if I had to choose. I agree with the SIT comment, I’d rather have Sea or Madness and Deja Vu instead of the 2 mentioned (and already often played)
Have I lost my mind this guy just put rush in the same category as iron maiden they're amazing and these are 2 of my favorite band's button let's face it Iron maiden it's like 100 to 0 Rush is the best band in the world..theirs just no comparison
I didn’t 😉 as far as I’m concerned, they could play the whole album. But the assumption is that they will play 5 songs. If they don’t play Alex, then my next guess is SoM.

Hope they drop fear of the dark...awful song! I reckon they will play C.S.I.T, WASTED YEARS, HEAVEN CAN WAIT AND STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND AND ALEXANDER THE GREAT....
I hope it's not going to be another caught somewhere back in time set. I Was so excited and only got Heaven can Wait and Wasted Years. Great songs but my least favorite on the album. Would be amazing to hear Deja Vu or Seas of Madness. Alexander would be amazing but I don't see that happening.

Honestly I think from the new album it will depend on the rehearsals. I read that the big epic songs took several sessions to record as they are so long. So The Parchment may be dropped in favor of a simpler song.

Not sure where this idea of everyone craving 'Alexander the Great' comes from. I'd be more than happy if they didn't bother with it at all as there are better options.
