I've seen a interview with Sanderson where he predicts how old he will be when the cosmere stories he has already planned out will be finished. If I'm remembering correctly, he'll be 70.
Yeah there's a way to go yet. This might not be the correct order but these are the books that we know of coming in the future, or at least the current plan: Stormlight 5 Mistborn Era 3 (books 8-10) Elantris 2&3 Warbreaker sequel(s) Stormlight 6-10 Aether of Night The silence divine Dragonsteel (at least 3 books, was originally 7, then 5, but I gather he's settled on 3 for me (expect to wait a while for these) Mistborn Era 4 (11-14) That's all I know of so far. There's some more novellas that he's got planned. And I expect he'll come up with some more ideas in the future. I also expect that he'll fit in 2 more Mistborn books to bring the number up to 16, which is thematically on point.
While you'll want to read Secret History, it's shorter and doesn't lend itself to a 4 part g"uess as to how it's gonna end" sort of thing. Elantris and Warbreaker would be good to read and guess how it's going to end. When I started, my first book was Elantris, then Mistborn 1 (the other 2 weren't written at that point), and close in there I read Warbreaker.
Since many are opining on what to read next, Sanderson just did a video where he listed his recommended reading order (see his youtube channel, published Feb 9), cutting to the chase he recommends: Mistborn Trilogy then two standalones (Warbreaker and Tress of the Emerald Sea) then 1st book of the Storm light archive.. which would keep you busy for quite a while. He lists another dozen book after that lol..
Glad to see a lot of people echoing the comment about Secret Histories next. You will start it after finishing HoA and have finished before the final HoA video hits YT. The benefits of reading it immediately outweigh the other choices of reading order. As tempting as moving to Stormlight Archive soon would be, Book 5 in the front half releases in Dec so you wouldn't want to finish 4 before the 5th is available.
You ABSOLUTELY nailed it about Vin's baby sister. Think about what ability Vin has that was more powerful than Kelsier displayed. I'm not sure I pieced it together that quickly (and I'm USUALLY quick enough on the uptake that the reveal is extremely satisfying confirmation for me, rather than a surprise :P) As for the Cosmere going forward... I can not wait for you to hit Stormlight Archives. I think it's his best work. And outside of the Cosmere, he's done some REALLY good stuff. The Reckoners is Sanderson's take on a super hero series. The Cytoverse is SO good that I read the first book (Skyward) in ALMOST one sitting (I passed out just before the epilogue and read it immediately upon waking :P) Alcatraz is his answer to Harry Potter (imo) and a genuinely amusing premise (it features a character who has the super powerful magical ability to arrive late. And Sanderson REALLY makes it work. Mechanically. As a magic system.)
In case you are still wondering what to read next. Maybe finish the wheel of time, (Unless I am mistaken, you did not read New Spring yet, did you?) before diving deeper into the cosmere.
Spoiler free explanation: Definitely read secret history novella next. It's the perfect book to finish of Era 1. Secret history is actually behind the scenes of The last 2 Mistborn books. It gives explanations for a lot of mysteries and questions in the previous books, answers to questions you did not even know you had. U should not sit on it It adds a lot to the ending of hero of ages and the trilogy as a whole. Secret history has so many twists, reveals, surprises and secrets. If Mistborn Era 1 is the main course Then secret history is the dessert Secret history is the best book in all the Cosmere in my opinion and my favourite I've read it 4 times completely, And re-read my favourite parts so many more times The literal first line of the book is a massive shocking twist and a great hook It has massive implications for the whole trilogy If Mistborn series is like an MCU movie, secret history is like a post credits scene If Mistborn series is like a good meal, secret history is like a good dessert It is also a very good introduction to the wider Cosmere
I first read Secret History so long after reading Mistborn that I was mostly confused the whole time. I think it would be good to read it while the trilogy is fresh in the memory.
sanderson says in the foreword of secret history don't read until after mistborn 6, theres the reveal there and then secret history explains how the reveal happened, reading secret history first ruins the reveal..... haha RUINs the reveal that was unintentional but it works
@@paddyhallihan4357 Yes but that only applies if you are only reading the Mistborn series, during those early to mid eras where knowledge of the Cosmere was sparse, and Stormlight 3 wasn't released. But things have changed a lot, I mean Stormlight 4 spoils secret history and the twist in Mistborn 6. This is a different era of the Cosmere, and this is the best way for the reader to easily understand everything without doing a lot of homework.

Spoiler free: Well the thing is Secret history reveals just one minor thing in Bands(Mistborn 6) But in a way Mistborn 6 also spoils secret history But Bands spoils a huge massive reveal in Secret history Everyone I have personally spoken to which is more than 7 people agree secret history is best after Era 1 The reveal in secret history after hero of ages is great and epic But the same reveal in Bands falls flat and is very lame Also secret history references Era 1 a lot and it would be best to read it immediately after Era 1 Also that whole spoiler thing was relevant during the early days of the Cosmere But right now when the Cosmere is in the third phase it is better to read that book early Also that spoiler is such a huge part of the discourse that you have huge chance of getting spoiled by discussion so it is better to get on with that book early in the best way possible.
With Hermarulgy you can onlyn steal one power per spike. If Vins earring is a spike and the power was taken from Vins sister to incress her powers, what power was it? Reread the part where Spook was injured and you have the answer about his spike and where the power cames from ;)
@@paulsiskin7140 No actually The only thing you lose really lame twist and revealed in the sixth book And that is just one small thing. The series is enhanced a lot when you read secret history immediately after hero of ages Read secret history as soon as you finish hero of ages
