A common headline in the media is "Greenland is melting". The underlying story usually points out that Greenland, which is by far the largest mass of ice in the Northern hemisphere, contains enough water to raise the sea level by 20 feet. Are these media reports all hype, or is Florida really doomed in the next few years? In this presentation, I will discuss what we know and don't know about how climate warming is affecting the cryosphere, with a focus on Greenland. In particular, we will look at some of the research that is trying to answer the very difficult problem of predicting the real future of this large ice mass.

Dunno how scientist are working on things to reduce and reverse the effect at all or the efforts on it. Well if oxygen in in water creates colder climates wouldn't it be great if plant life thrived in the coldest climates in the depth and reduction of CO2 in general. It might not be enough but what if even energy went towards hydrogen and stopped pretending that nuclear was clean and not also producing CO2 emissions alongside it from it's toxic waste dumping. Could be utilizing 3D printer technology into tree planting fixing environmental damage and creating structures using better resources. In terms as for whining on money and resources why can't organizations be built on these global threats like the WHO had support and resources used to get by a pandemic. Mean they don't have to toss all independence of their technology but some times things like this the world just works better together. Even things like the Space Station were more successful due global supports on it. In terms I don't think it's a lost cost or can't be fixed but how much are people willing to think of a resolution or attempt anything or problem solve or even work together. Maybe our problem is also in our thinking limiting us to not doing anything at all or relying on the few to do the thinking while everyone else follows. In terms you might require also various things asides a single process to create a solution as well. Also maybe we shouldn't be limiting ourselves to advance technology to improve things past technology caused problems for and move on from those problems to better tech to improve the situation. Like better energy as example.

At this point in time, I think western Antarctica is more of a threat. Not that Greenland is not melting, but the Doomsday glacier is on the verge of collapse. You're looking at the wrong pole for near future sea level rise.

I disagree. If the AMOC turns off, global havoc ensues.

Disappointing presentation.

Just because a speaker does not present a pre conceived point of view does not make a presentation disappointing. Facts need to be measures, trends noted and theories modified if necessary. There is a huge difference between scientific research in Russia and in the West as the West has many pet theories and famous names and no one in the West dare to say or publish that the Famous person with the Pet Theory was wrong.
