It can say Fe[II] or Fe[III] to clarify which charge it has. The letters are roman numerals and read as 2 and 3.

you can find out with guess and check when given the formula. When given word form, well you already know what the charge is (given by the indication of roman numerals). You probably figured this out by now tho.
@alexsheffield931

@@architect3927 pretty sure group 8 has no charge considering it is stable, and iron doesn't belong to a specific group and is a transition metal.

I am in high school and I have to study this so my question is we know that Zn has only one oxidation case which is +2 but If we used some element that have more than one oxidation case like iron which has +2 +3 +4 +5 +6 but +2 and +3 are the most common because Fe is a transitional metal and most of them has more than one case so how we can predict the products of Fe + O2 reaction is it Fe2O3 or FeO please I need any one to answer this question so bad it will save me from memorizing a lot of equations like this one 2Fe + 3Cl2 -> 2Fecl3 it is the most simplest one. and please refer me to some video or article or at least give me some keywords to search for if you can.
@n9583
@n9583 4 года назад
Fe isn't bonded with another element so the chances are that it will have a +2 or +3. Fe + O2= if you predict the reaction you will get Fe2O3 and if you balance it out you get Feo
