Scientists just revived a prehistoric worm. It’s a nematode found in Siberian permafrost and it’s estimated to be 46,000 years old. In other words, this worm froze when humans were making cave paintings. And we just woke it up. Here's why...

The thing is if it can happen in a lab it can happen naturally even if the odds are low and there's a lot of permafrost as it thaws there's going to be some worms as well as weird spores seeds of extinct plants viruses & bacteria all that shits about to get a second chance at earth. Now imagine what freaky shit might be sleeping in Antarctica as that's gonna thaw too. Not to mention all the isolated frozen over hot springs lakes that are all unique isolated ecosystems for a very very long time. All that's about it o be exposed to the air & oceans.
@danochy5522
@danochy5522 6 месяцев назад
I get that this is meant to be humourous, but it's unlikely that a worm in the permafrost has any chance of being harmful to us, and even then, why would it be worse than extant worms? This is just a cool window into life in the somewhat recent past.

@@frokghugI think in nature its a trade off, either you are good at all things which means you suck if you go to extreme conditipns, or you have specialized to even be good under extreme conditions, making you suck at something else. But humans like to make everything a competition, thus they effectively pin an ape against a goldfish to climb a tree, metaphorically speaking. We see tardigrates survive things we cant even get close to, for a bit and we go like: so its indestructable, because it did not instantly die exposed to these conditions.

There is one titled ‘How High We Go In The Dark’ by Sequoia Nagamatsu where there’s a virus outbreak after a scientist at the arctic circle caught a virus while doing research on the melting permafrost at the artic circle.

@@MuhammadIrfan-ow2gz that sounds cool, I'll definitely check it out but I was kind of thinking on the lines of being frozen for many years as an experiment or mission. Any recommendations?

Maybe a respected individual with a genetic ability to do that would be called "the traveler" and every century they greet him as they awaken him from sleep and show what their century has to offer. To create the all knowing, as he would have freshly in memory all kinds of knowledge from the past in personal experience.
