Rodri not getting nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season award I see why people don’t take individual awards seriously because sometimes they’re just glorified popularity contests that’s just about PR and popularity. Are people even watching football this season. In terms of consistency he has been Manchester City’s best player, he’s literally an 8/10 every week and even when he’s not at his best, you can see how much of an impact he has in the game and they’re a much better team when he on the field. In the premier league alone, he has 7 goals and 9 assists 16 G/A as a CDM, he is undefeated in the games in which he’s started and he’s gone a full year without losing a game in the premier league, yet again no nomination. This one stat sums up his importance to Manchester City and why every elite team needs a proper CDM. Manchester City have lost 3 games in the premier league this season and all of their defeats came when Rodri was suspended. In his absence the team really struggled and the fact that even a team as good as Manchester City aren’t the same team when he doesn’t play it just shows you how important the holding midfielder role is in modern football. If he wasn’t suspended for the games that they lost in, there wouldn’t be a close title race in the Premier League and one thing is inevitable for Manchester City when Rodri plays in the Premier League they either win or draw. With all due respect to Erling Haaland how is he nominated for this award over Rodri. 25 goals in 28 games are good numbers for him and he is still leading the premier league in goals and while he’s still scoring at an elite rate; he’s not been at his very best this season. He has struggled with injuries and even when fit he’s been very inconsistent and he’s gone missing in a lot of important games and he has missed the most big chances out of any player in the premier league this season and he’s a prolific striker on a team that creates so many chances. Haaland has underperformed his expected goals at times and has missed easy chances. Because he has more PR even though Rodri is far more important and consistent to the team as he is, Haaland got nominated even without being great by his standards. Remember in 2023, he had more trophies and individual accolades than defeats for club and country helped Manchester City win the treble by scoring the game winner in the champions league final yet again didn’t even make FIFPPRO XI. Players need PR and media hype, PR or not, I don’t care Rodri doesn’t need any of that because his performances on the field mean more than just media hype and popularity because anyone who watches the games would know how irreplaceable he is to Manchester City and if he has a period where he was injured or missed more games with suspension, they wouldn’t be in the title race in the premier league that’s how much of a difference Rodri makes for Manchester City he’s that good.
