You do understand that GDP is not a measure of how healthy and well the people of a country are doing, right? Same for a province. Inequality is the greatest form of violence, and Alberta has an ugly poverty problem much like every other province and country in the world. There are some decent countries with high social supports like Finland and Denmark who invest in the people and have low inequality, but they do have higher taxes. But they also rank high on health and happiness world rankings. Not perfect, they still have problems, especially how they get energy, in many ways. There's no in-system solution to the collapsing society. There is in-system transition to a better system options, like One Small Town Contributionism, but that's with the end in mind. We can become a Star Trek-like future or a Star Wars-like future. If you want to see more Star Wars-like, then just keep on going with Market Capitalism and we'll see something pretty devastating and war-like with that system running the show.

Air pollution: "According to the GBD analyses, air pollution ranks as the 11th largest risk factor overall for premature death and disability in Canada, and is the top environmental risk." You know what's really great? Seeing the support for Alberta and Danielle Smith from so many Canadians from coast to coast. I am an Alberta senior and I have never seen anything like it. I truly think it is Danielle's biggest accomplishment so far. She has been quite successful in bringing Canadians together in support for not only Alberta but our industry as well. Best Premier EVER!
Except when you discover that the entity that will control and invest in Alberta's pension plan is a private business that the provincial government will hire, and there will be no guarantees about lost revenue due to downturns in the market and the pensioners will be on an investment roller coaster --you better make sure you have investigated exactly what she has planned; and realize her main goal is to cut ties with Ottawa at any cost--YOU will be the loser. She puts Alberta first--You will be a Canadian second, and all those federal benefits will be gone--be prepared.

A provincial premier with a spine, a brain, and a heart. We've had a few like her over the years but they still stand out as rare. Bravo Danielle Smith.
How much oil should Alberta keep drinking until it's too much? Who is going to tell Alberta to stop? There's two ways: The hard way or the easier way. The hard way is Mother Nature gives a hard wake up call, which has been hinted at YEAR OVER YEAR but fear is consuming people because jobs = money and people need money for affording life, or trying to anyway. It's a vicious capitalist system and we aren't civilized yet if we still think monetary-market capitalism can sustain itself in any sort of just or healthy way. How about look to viable solutions to a fire, instead of looking to add more kindling to the fire because there are 'jobs in kindling.'?
@@coolioso808 Canad's entire emissions output from everything we use is 1.6% of the problem. @@KaiserS0ZE It's not just about emissions, it's about waste. It's unsustainable waste we are producing from capitalist industry that has no incentive to stop churning out garbage for their short-term profit gains. We are living in an anti-economic system. "Economy" is management of a household or 'careful management of available resources' and what we are doing now is not careful and not sustainable. Yeah, China, USA, India, Russia, etc. they have the bigger economies and pollution records that need to be addressed but Canada could lead the charge in healthy, sustainable, localized, self-sufficient communities that are not wasting so much for the profits of the few. "For the first time ever, Statistics Canada reported that Ontarians sent over 10 million tonnes of waste to landfill disposal in 2018, a record amount. According to Statistics Canada’s July 2020 Disposal of Waste, by Source Numbers Survey, total waste for disposal in Ontario was 10,085,613 tonnes in 2018, and increase of over 600,000 tonnes, or 6.4%, since 2016." I don't even know what you mean by that, I don't think 10 people could define it the same way, they just use it as a dismissive word to describe something they don't like or don't want to understand. In real terms, would you rather be "awake" or "asleep"? Because George Carlin talked about the "American Dream" in which "you have to be asleep to believe it." I don't think believing in oil pipelines as saving anybody or anything as a very awake proposition. It's more nightmarish for people who aren't thinking clearer than the politicians who tell them their unsustainable ideas. Want to make money above all else? Above true efficiency, sustainability, freedom, health and abundance for all? There is more than enough clean, renewable resources to let everyone live at a high standard of living in a circular style economy that we could create. But there isn't enough profit for rich people to create abundance for all in a capitalist economy. Choice is ours. What road? Could go status quo and see how it goes... Or could do some of your own research to viable new systems like with Zeitgeist: Moving Forward, Second Thought and Our Changing Climate channels or Michael Tellinger with One Small Town Contributionism.

This Ottawa gang is out of control with abuse, crimes and violations of our rights and there should be absolute legal consequences and zero tolerance.
Can’t wait for that day. It will take a while but it’s coming… they have done things in Canada we’ve never seen from leaders… and the fact they have gotten away with it for so long - it’s going to really have added up then so I’m trying to be patient and just watch their castle slowly crumble from within
How much oil do you want to eat, drink or breathe? How much money do you want to eat, drink or breathe? This ancient Cree proverb is very relevant still to this day: “Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.” Short-term profits for the few is not a good plan for the sustainability and health of our future, I'm afraid. Our capitalist-driven monetary-market system has out-lived its usefulness by many decades. It's like an old 1980s computer trying to play any program from the 2000s, it's going to struggle and crash over and over again. We need a system change. We can do that, but we can't do it with our eyes closed and minds shut off to cooperation and scientific thinking. What we can do is our own research and collaborate with like-minded others. Sources are many, such as: Second Thought, Our Changing Climate, A World Beyond Capitalism, TZMOfficialChannel and books like The New Human Rights Movement, Zero Marginal Cost Society, The Sickness is the System and Ubuntu Contributionism.
Cringe at the thought. Sad for those who don't ask critical questions to politicians. It's almost like they want to be saved by a politician instead of being ahead of the curve themselves.
So what you're saying is the same thing people were saying about Trump. And he's an idiot liar. Ok, maybe they are the same. And how badly is she going to pooch Alberta in the long run? The UCP have to go.
@@protaginets I'm happy there are some skeptical and critical comments under this video that don't instantly praise and kiss Smith. I'm sad that so many Canadians, probably many in Alberta, are quick to provide their undying love for a politician. When did we lose our critical thinking capabilities? Looking at evidence to judge our world view, not just short-term raw emotions. Maybe many of us never really learned critical thinking? Could anybody who agrees with Smith explain with evidence or facts how sustainable, healthy and better for everyone Smith's policies and positions are?
Nah, it's a decidedly toxic breath of bitumen sands air rife with heavy metals - that represent a clear threat to the futures of Canadian children. Not surprising other provinces are supporting this premier. She is strong, logical and is calling out those who aren't acting in good faith regardless of their position. I'm in Eastern Canada and am behind her 100%!
Can you handle a fun little hypothetical? Let's say Danielle Smith is your hero and you believe she will fix Alberta and help Canada solve their problems by investing more in oil pipelines and the dirty jobs that go with them, okay? So what happens to your praise for Smith if private companies profit tremendously, while front line workers break their backs for a dying industry and then austerity kicks in harder, wages don't keep up with inflation, rich get richer, poor get poorer and environment becomes more and damaged and harder to sustain life, what then? Blame D Smith and regret your earlier praise? I mean, by all means live and learn. Make mistakes and learn from them. But c'mon, do some research first. A smart kid could figure this one out. They've done science projects on this for years that could be better solutions than what D Smith and the Cons have planned.

Fantastic performance from a fantastic Premier. Many doubted her entrance into politics but she is certainly showing her stand for the people of Alberta and her excellent knowledge about everything that stands for the good of the country. 👍👍👍
She's a liar. Plain and simple. She lies when she gets caught at something or she lies when it's convenient and useful. Like when she lied about helping Albertans with their power bills, only to now claw that help back. Or like when she said she wasn't interested in the whole CPP issue before the election, but not that she's elected, she's working on it again. She practises name calling and divisive rhetoric and she openly caters to a small group of loud right winger extremists who would be happy to see Albertan's paying for their own medical care, are willing to steal the CPP of other provinces workers and cause higher premiums for them and ignore the environment to the detriment of even their own grandchildren and theirs after them. All for short term gain. A good government tries to set a stage for LONG TERM, CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT of a province or country. Their goal should not be four years from now and how to get elected one more time, but what it will take to set the stage for a healthy, happy, economically sound community in fifty years, a hundred years. Smith's only thinking about four years from now.
Yeah, they said she would be too harsh and not get elected by the general public but she did because Alberta needs a bulldog for a premier. And that she is!!
