Oh, I'm so glad to hear you say this! It's something, even as a youngster I would wonder about and be told I was wrong. Thanks!

If the horse is able to be good without being tied, why tie them, and even more, cross tie them? What's the benefit of it?

That has always been my thought. That;s why I don't even tie. I never have, and never will use a cross tie.

Safety. Some stables have actual rules to protect other borders.

Rules at the stable usually. Even if your horse can stand in the isle while you go get something in the tack room, you don't want to leave your horse untied when there's other people and horses around doing stuff. I only do it when no one else is there. Kinda the same concept as "why would you teach a horse to take a bit if you prefer bitless and theyre good at it?" Because other people/organizations have rules and it's just better if your horse is capable of it without causing issues.

Never believed in cross ties. If the horse trusts you and sees you as the leader there should be no problem ar all.

I don't use cross ties because I ve seen some dangerous things happen with frightened horses but looking back.. That happened in english riding stables in the 90s/00s..so without wanting to offend I seriously doubt any of these horses had any preparation like Warwick mentions before being cross tied. In fact I distinctively remember some horses were cross tied BECAUSE they wouldn't stand still....
