Thank you! I'm almost ready to official start formatting my first book in Atticus. I tested it a bit, but I'm still finishing a few things in the word document. One thing I haven't seen is how to import/format tables. In my book I have a 3x9 table with just text. Hope is an easy process within Atticus.
@AtticusWriter
@AtticusWriter 7 месяцев назад
Atticus doesn't currently handle tables or charts, but if you can turn it into an image instead, you can insert it perfectly into your content that way!

Thanks for the valuable tutorials. Also, I wanted to ask you about some of them that help leverage the final pages for author information and credits. Thanks in advance.

You mean you'd like a tutorial on what type of pages to add to the back matter? That a great idea!

I intend to use Atticus to format my novel but I write in Scrivener. I'm sure there are many like me that find the formatting in Scrivener confusing and Atticus seems to be much easier. It would be helpful to have a tutorial to help 🙂

Do you mean a tutorial to help you take your manuscript from Scrivener into Atticus? Or how to write inside Atticus itself? Thanks for the suggestion!

All the same rules apply, you'll just need to Download as .docx. I hope that helps!

Can chapters be uploaded one at a time and combined to make the completed work?
@AtticusWriter
@AtticusWriter 6 месяцев назад
Yes, absolutely. You'll want to upload the first one as a new book, and then you can click the three dots beside the Add a Chapter button to Import additional chapters.

I have written an 80,000 word docx, a biography of my later life. I wrote it in MS Word using the standard A4 size, with 18 chapters, each of about 4,000 - 9,000 words. My concern is that I have written this book in draft form and I am now using Pro-Writing-Aid software to correct grammar, style and overall sentence structure and readability. I have about 140 pages to format and check, but when I bring it down to 5" x 8" for ePub page size, all my page numbers need changing. Does Atticus automatically create its own page numbering? Another thing is that I wrote 18 individual chapters without making a "content" page. Do I have to do that before importing to Atticus, or will Atticus do that for me? This book is very important to me, so the purchase price is of little importance. Getting my work formatted for publishing on Amazon is the key to completion. So many questions within one question request.

Yes, Atticus will automatically reformat your book for ePub (which is reflowable and based on reader preferences on individual devices), and you can choose the print size you'd like to set it at as well - which Atticus will automatically number for you! Atticus will also create a properly formatted TOC automatically, so you don't want to import one of your own. If you have more questions, it's best to write into our support email - you can find it on our website, atticus.io I hope that helps!

Is it possible to "reconvert" footnotes to endnotes within Atticus? Or is it footnotes or nothing in Atticus?
@AtticusWriter
@AtticusWriter 7 месяцев назад
Inside Atticus you can choose End of Book notes or End of Chapter notes. Footnotes on the same page are available for the PDF version only.

HI! Thanks for the detailed tutorial. It's very helpful. One question - my book is a manual so it will be printed larger than a regular novel - about 12 X 8 inches in size. Can I format my book pages for this size?
@AtticusWriter
@AtticusWriter 5 месяцев назад
Currently the largest trim size available is 8.5 x 11, so hopefully that might work for you instead!

I've been using Vellum on my PC via Mac-in-cloud, and though I love Vellum, I'm so tired of the process and expense. I'd like to switch to Atticus. Is it possible to simply import my Vellum or ePub files into Atticus for the conversion?
@AtticusWriter
@AtticusWriter 16 дней назад
It's best to import docx files into Atticus, so hopefully you still have that original source file! I hope you find Atticus works well for you!
@AdamBlumer

@@AtticusWriter Actually, the docx file appears to be the ONLY way to import the book. I've had to go in and export the Vellum file as Word. Thankfully, Vellum has this option; otherwise, I'd be sunk. Hey, how do I format data at the beginning of a chapter? For example: Los Angeles, 3:30 pm. Atticus wants to drop cap it, but the drop cap should come later. Thanks.

I'm sorry for the trouble. If the icon in the app itself doesn't work, it's usually due to something on your computer blocking the connection. You can always visit www.atticus.io/support/ on our website. I hope that helps!a

If I know my book will be 6x9, should I change the page size to 6x9 in Word before importing to Attitus? Do you have any other tips for margins and line spacing?
@AtticusWriter
@AtticusWriter 6 месяцев назад
Your Word settings don't matter, Atticus will adjust all of that for you. My best recommendation would be to watch the How to Format and How to Create a Custom Theme tutorials, and that should give you everything you need!

How do you make text start further up the page? That is the main issue I’m having. All the preset layouts have the chapters starting half way down the page, what if you want it further up?
@AtticusWriter
@AtticusWriter 7 месяцев назад
At this time, the layout on most of our templates begins the body text one-third to one-half of the way down the page to adhere to current publishing standards. You can't currently directly adjust the white space between the header and the first line of the body, but the amount of padding in the chapter heading depends on the theme you've chosen. You do have the option of hiding the chapter heading and just using a subheading instead, if that works better for you. Feel free to write into support if you need more guidance on that!

Hi. I have bought Atticus and am about to import my book from word. I am unclear from the video about what to do about chapter headings. WHen I have chapter titles in Word Heading 1, what am I doing with the chapter number? Should it be Heading One also?
@AtticusWriter
@AtticusWriter 9 дней назад
You actually don't need to include chatper numbers in your Word, as Atticus has a setting to create those automatically for you, if you want them! If you have any other specific questions though, it's best to write into our support email, as you'll get a much faster response there! I hope that helps!

If save my file to PLAIN TEXT, would that delete all the codes, making it easier to upload to Atticus? Then I can just update the file - format such as Heading, Subheading,. etc.

If my chapters are named Chapter One, Chapter Two, etc and are set up as headings, will they be duplicated in the outline? Like Chapter One Chapter One
@AtticusWriter
@AtticusWriter 4 месяца назад
If you type them in as titles, yes, you can repeat them. The automated numbering wouldn't be able to do this though, unless you're working in Volumes - then you can have a Chapter One in each separate volume/book. I hope that helps!

In other words, format it yourself now that you’ve already paid a bunch of money for this program.

Atticus is a DIY Formatting program - designed to make the process of getting your book to a professional level as easy as possible, but yes, you still do have to select your formatting preferences.
