I just love the throaty sound of your mighty M ,it's good to see you still working her. I have some bad news about the half century of progress show. I was looking up some information on it yesterday and I found out that they don't allow motor cycles, mopeds and bicycles on the property. Basically anything with two wheels. It doesn't look like you are able to use your e bike at the show. I thought I better bring this to your attention before you find out the hard way. I do hope to see you there.

I am a trained agronomist with a degree from The Ohio State University. My research shows that crimson clover will produce up to 140 pounds of N, I believe that is appreciably more than a soybean crop planted this late in the season. You also have to be cognizant of the fact that only half of that N production will be available the following year for the corn crop. On the other hand the soybeans are a cash crop, you should get a return to cover your expenses. With crimson clover the only return is the N produced and residue for the following corn crop, there is no cash return. I have been utilizing crop rotations and cover crops for the past 42 years on my home farm. Good luck to you in this crop and next years corn crop.
@FarmallFanatic

But with the price of fertilizer it would be worth planting the crimson
@EthanPDobbins
@EthanPDobbins 11 месяцев назад
I don't see why if you want to plant beans why you wouldn't go beans, then right after harvest seed with the crimson clover and a grain nurse crop like oats. Just regular feed store oats work fine don't even need to be certified seed. Then you've got the double nitrogen whammy from your beans and your clover. Clover can be cut for the hay in the spring or even before it frosts for a cash crop too if you get it in early enough in the fall. Less nitrogen input than if you till it though of course but most of it's nitrogen is in the roots anyways.

Sir, I am curious how you plan to harvest the drilled corn? I don't doubt you will get a great stand and great yield. But everything I drilled we used a grain table to harvest. Corn was either ear picked or shelled with a combine with a corn head on it. Just curious of your plan? Jeff

I believe everything that you say about soybeans and it is an inch depth, so the rain or moisture will get to the soybeans faster than the corn because correct me if I'm wrong but corn is deeper in the ground than soybeans 3 or 4 inches from the top of the ground I think and that I'd fine if you overlap soybean ground and it will make it better than seeing gaps at each end when they turn around and I like drilled soybeans better than planting them and I believe everything that you say that's why I like watching your videos because I learn a lot from on how to do it on the farm 👍👍👍

Bad year for wood chucks. Have to check the pole barn every day to fill in holes as they start. Neighbors don't like me shooting wood chucks. I find it funny they are undermining his yard barn sitting on deck blocks. I have a few conibare traps I can stake out over the holes. Dad would say the only time it is too late to plant is when you don't. Be interesting what the bean crop will yield. Couple more weeks and I would have been thinking Winter wheat. I always thought beans put enough nitrogen in the ground for corn? I thought clover was pretty expensive to turn under. We would broadcast clover in wheat to make a hay field. You do grain so you don't bother with hay. If you do wheat do you bale straw? Straw is the money crop for the people and horses. We only had a John Deere drill with steel wheels and trip rope lift. It was paid for and kept up so why buy new. I'm thinking it was a 18 hole drill and you could drop all 18 or just 9. Dad watched the seed like a hawk.
