Nice video, Donald. The best two crops this year for me were my okra and cucuzza. As a matter of fact, we're fixing a little cucuzza and shrimp casserole tonight. Mmm! Mmm! I bought my first row hipper from Steven's this past Spring. They are indeed nice people to deal with.
I agree with bellaray1, if you plan on doing more canning and cooking shows, we'll sop up every bit of it. Personally, I would love to see your take on some chili!
Now you KNOW that third row is for some more Okra! ;) Hah! Nice video and good job on the raised bed with the grass in the center approach. Keep you from tracking around 10 pounds of mud on your boots.
@72542 ... my okra did real well this year too. Vine borers got into the cucuzza and destroyed them all. I have one voluteer vine coming up, hope it makes before the frost. Those hippers sure save a lot of time and a ton of work.......Donald
"I found it in the yard... with teeth marks all over it... wonder how that happened?" Donald, I found your videos back in 2010 shortly before moving my family out to our little piece of rural Heaven in North Central Texas. I never saw this video. April 2020... we have 8 dogs (wife collects them). Thank you Donald, for sharing your wealth of information, your love of growing things and your kind heart. May you rest in peace my friend. I never met you, but I KNOW you are missed. ~ Chris
@wicker762 ... there's go to be something you could grow in the winter? Something in containers maybe? You're welcome and glad you enjoy the vids........Donald
@earlene0925 ... now is the time to plant beets. Broadcast the seed, cover with about 1/2 inch of dirt and water them in real well. Keep the soil moist and they'll come up in no time. Once up, thin them out to about 3 inches apart.........Donald
@dljones33 ... I only planted 2 tomato plants for a fall crop. They are about 5 ft. tall and I saw the first little tomato the other day. Can't wait for the lettuce and spinach to mature and make myself a real salad........Donald
Hi Donald I also started gardening this year and had a little success. Now i am ready for winter garden. Can you please suggest whats the best to start in vegetable garden now a days for winter harvest. I really like your videos and are well explained. Thanks for your video and God Bless You
@reptile411 ... I water it just like you saw in the video, 26 gals. at a time on the back of the golf cart. The nearest water souce is about 1000 ft. away.........Donald
@reptile411 ... I grow greens, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, carrots, onions and beets during the winter. They can take a lot more cold than people think.......Donald
@500passwords ... been around gator hunting most of my life but have never set out a hook. Troy Landry is my favortie on the show. He's good people.......Donald
I want to plant and pickle beets.Ive only grew tomatoes and bell peppers this year.I cant find any one around here who gardens. My bell peppers were tiny.....like little ufo's lol. You are the closest person I've found on youtube to Arkansas. When should I plant them and how. Can you help me out.....please....thanks a bunch
@bellaray1 ... about the only thing I have in the fall garden that I would can is the carrots. Need to check out the "Forum" on the web site. We have a section just on canning that you would find interesting. Lots of good people on the forum from all over that are always willing and able to help. Good place to hang out........Donald
@crewlla ... you are going to like the turducken, 3 flavors in one bird. I do offer DVDs on the web site to help offset some of the expenses. The videos are designed not so much to show you how but to give you ideas.........Donald
this has nothing to do with the video but, I just wanted to let you know that our grocery stores are now selling turdunken. I ordered one for our thanks giving (oct 11) I cant wait to eat it, It will be my first.maybe some day they will have gator. :) I think your very lucky to have the weather you do, even if you get rained out at least its not snow for 9 months out of the year. wish I were there. :) I love all your video's. I have learnt alot from them.does your web site sell the videos
Hey Donald always nice to see your videos informative and entertaining. Always get a kick out of what your dogs get into. You should do a video of the stuff they do that would be funny. Have my fall garden planted and its doing good finally getting some rain after a long hot summer. I planted collards, brocolli, cauilflower, cabbage and turnips. take care Robert
@redherringbone ... this old cajun would probably mess up some chili. Check out the "Forum" on the web site. Lots of good information about all sorts of stuff. Lots of nice, frendly folks on there...........Donald
Can you make a video on how you water all that? Half of my property uses an automatic irrigation system but the other half I water daily by hand and what a pain that is.
@brucenunn37 ... I have a rabbit eating my broccoli and spinach. I had to replant the carrots the other day. They were disappearing too. You're welcome.......Donald
Wonder how that happened......lol Like the seeder. Always appreciate the vids.Spring here in Tasmania and have been busy planting and sowing...potatoes, corn, coriander, broad beans, snowpeas, chives, spinach, silverbeet, mustard, nasturtians, lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, cucumber, pumpkin, watermelon, basil, beans and melons. Good luck with your Winter growing.
@webcajun Are you able to grow stuff like Tomatoes year round there? We get a lot of rain in winter to in N California but nothing grows in 20-30 degree temps lol.
Kamasawa, I'm doing a new start up and follow up on your videos and doing exactly for my raised beds in my garden in hyderabad India and will be in touch with your videos and keep learning from you. Lashpa
@ransom47 ... Hey Ransom, mustard green are already big enough to start cutting, broccoli and cauliflower are 4-6 inches tall, cabbage is looking good and so are the beets. The rest is coming right along.........Donald
@bellaray1 ... thank you for the kind words, I'll try to keep things interesting. Now that's it's starting to cool off a bit that cast iron stove is going to get used a lot more. I enjoy picking fresh mustard green and cooking them in my shop. Seems like they taste so much better when cooked outside. I do have DVDs available on the web site. Thanks........Donald
@TheUrbanOutdoors ... don't want yall to get bored with me so I've only been putting out about 2 per month. You know the saying, too much of a good thing is ........ LOL.......Donald
@AsphaltCowboy57 ... something I try to stress in the videos is to keep things as simple as they really are. Will be doing an update soon, some of the things I planted are already 6 inches tall. I did have to replant a few things, think I have a rabbit coming in there at night, but overall it's looking good.......Donald
@sadia102 ... I planted a little bit of everything too. Brewing up some compost / worm cast tea to add to the soil today. Good luck to you too and keep us updated on your garden.........Donald
@Rdrake1413 ... Hey Robert, I'm having to water about every other day, no rain here. Got pretty much the same planted as you do except the turnips. Not too crazy about turnips. The dogs have been staying out of trouble lately but I'll see what I can do..........Donald
@bellaray1 ... I'd love to have a small green house to start my seedlings in late winter. Not sure about growing vegetables in a hot house. Cost of construction and heating would be more than I willing to invest........Donald
