Today we're going to walk through some maintenance work on Fallen Forest to get it ready for the upcoming fish room tour. Let's discuss what I'm doing and some tips on doing plant maintenance.

This was the perfect way to do this video. At least in my opinion. I don't really need/want to watch you cut each and every stem on each and every plant. I believe this was a good balance for this video. Thank you.

Agreed. Love this video especially the part about how you decided to pick which stems to plant-- very valuable info for those who do not have a lot of experience with aquarium plants.

I’m new to aquariums - I started a 10 gallon on February 24, with a mix of plants and hardscape, then added a pair of Jade Mystery Snails on March 24. I’ve ordered some cherry shrimp. I have a bit of algae. Your channel has been an inspiration and a wellspring of information, especially your talks and instructional/demonstration videos, like this one. Thanks for sharing everything you share with us, and I hope you keep at it for a long time. 😊

really great advice with the old stems. I've always wondered why sometimes I would replant stems and just get nothing or tiny amounts of growth from older stems, but cuttings with no roots would start growing quickly

I thought it looked great before the maintenance. The final result is fantastic. The tank is so relaxing to watch.

Beautiful tank (before and after😁) Lovely crypts. I have a mostly crypt and Java fern 20 gal long with wood and stone hard scape. Dirted/sand cap/just enuf small stones to cover the surface of sand. A nice switch up from my other tanks growing mostly stem plants. I’m appreciative of the slower growth in my 20L tank. Slow and nice steady growth =less maintenance. I enjoyed this, thank you😊☮❤🐠🦐🪴

Great video!! Ah, those burgundy/ brown Crypts in fallen forest always blow me away! Is that all the C. jacobensii (spelling)? So beautiful! It would be easier in the future to see the crypt leaves you were talking about trimming because of age if you zoom in more or maybe remove the leaf and show us close up, like you did with the stems? And seeing the difference once you trimmed all the stems made such a huge difference! Much less distracting to the eye. Great video though!! Thanks for sharing Bentley! 🙏💙✌️

Would help a bit to have the plant at something like a table on a pad on a desk light to help show off what you were trying to explain. Thank you as always for the video.

Lovely to actually see tanks again! What is not clear is how to identify new vs. old leaves in a plant like the crypts vs. a stem plant, where old and new are more obvious. I don't have enough time to watch the plants grow each day....can you please explain? Thank you

So if a leaf has larger holes/tears then it's usually good to remove. Leaves turning very yellow or brown also can be removed if other foliage looks healthy. If all the leaves on a plant show the same problem, then it's a deficiency. If one or two larger ones show it, that's typically age.

Nice! What are the crypt types again? I'm about to make an order soon for my 110 I'm in process of setting up in April. 😊

I have 3 crypts I'm this tank: crypt lutea (you don't see them well because the others are taller), crypt axelrodi and crypt Jacobseni "pink"

Mr. Bentley my friend. I have a question for you that I feel you are uniquely qualified to answer. I am currently in the process of getting back into the hobby. Now my question is because the tank is relatively deep at 31inches. What would be the best light for this to be a planted tank and can I use sand or should I go with planted substrate?
@BentleyPascoe
@BentleyPascoe 6 месяцев назад
It's going to depend on the plants you want to use. If you go with lower demand plants, then you don't necessarily need a really crazy light. You could probably get away with something like the aquarium co-op light or the fluval plant 3. As far as substrate is concerned using an aqua soil makes you have to do a little less work, but if you want to use sand you can. I just wouldn't use it with heavy root feeding plants.

Yes, but how do you identify old vs. new leaves on a healthy, bushy plant like your crypt jacobsenai(sp?)? Are new leaves on the outside or inside of the plant? Thank you
@BentleyPascoe

Typically largest leaves are oldest.

Bentley, This is off subject, but I am not good at Facebook. You probably heard we've had 2 hurricanes here in Florida. Both took a toll on us. I'm just telling you this because of your aquarium. Our power has been off for 4 days. Our 30 gal tall has 8 neon's, 7 h. Rasboras, 6 Cories, 1 Bolivian ram, and 1 Dwarf Gourami. Temperature of the water is about 82. All has gone well, but I started to get biofilm. Luckily, the water came on. 30% water changes each day now until power is restored. Looks like I saved the little buggers. I take most good intened folks on Facebook with a grain of salt. Some have value and knowledge, you are one of those. A foot note...... My under gravel filler, BCB basket, has provided some level of bacteria support IMO. Keep up the good posts. Thanks, Dave Spangler, a returneeeee to the hobby.
