I would love to see more homeschool content and meal ideas/what we eat type of videos. I love your advice to just stick with it. I see homeschool moms all the time say to ditch the curriculum.. you’re not married to it.. talk about how they switch in the middle of the year.. etc. I’m too frugal to do that but I also put hours and hours into deciding/researching what we are going to use and try to do my best to make sure it’s a good fit for our family.
Hello Samantha! I will write your recommendations down for upcoming videos. 😃 I love the flexibility of homeschooling, but I also like seeing something through to the end... including the curriculum. I'm like you, I wouldn't want to research another curriculum in the middle of the year unless it was going super poorly.
This is what I needed. I was blessed with K-12 Sonlight from 20 years ago from my inlaws. There are about 75% of the same books as the modern Sonlight. I use Abeka and Masterbooks for the curriculum workbook portion. It's fun seeing others doing nearly the same and seeing that it works well this way too.
I remember seeing that you did the basket system on your Instagram and it totally verified that that was the best system. We do baskets too, plastic as well…pop them in the cupboard, easy peasy. Love IEW for my olders. Thinking about checking out Rod and Staff for my rising 3rd grader 🧐. My sister in law in Texas uses that! Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦
Hello to you in Canada! 🍁 Isn't the basket system so simple?!?! I'm glad you like it, too! We love Rod and Staff. It's challenging, thorough, but also doesn't include a bunch of extras. It gets to the point.
The RU-vid algorithm led me here and hooray for that! I love all homeschool related content. I am a brand new homeschool mama and I’m just so, so happy to be here in this season of life. I am a Sonlight lover. I’m truly so obsessed with their literature based curriculum! I also love Abeka. I do a little mix and match between the two. Especially for math. I checked out Rod & Staff after your recommendation and I’m loving what I see. I just ordered their pre-school curriculum to give it a try. 😀

Thank you for sharing your curriculum, I love all that you are using! We use a few Abeka resources, and like you said, we make the teacher manuel work for us, we don't do every little thing because I don't even think our kids would retain all of that. As long as the main idea/lesson is being understood, we just move on 😊 I believe it's an amazing program, especially the language arts, with it my girls started reading in Pre-K. Hello! It is a great program and it seems like we use it in much of the same way. Grasping the main point is a good goal and they repeat concepts every year, so it's buildable knowledge. Thanks for your input!!!! 😄
Liz, what are your other children doing while you’re teaching one child? Also, do you block your day? Morning, afternoon, evenings? We currently homeschool and feel like there’s just soooo much time in the day 😬when they’re left without structure they end up fighting.
