Hello sweet friends! I hope you're ready with a pen and paper because we've got a lot to cover in this video! I share all the book that are on my fall reading list, the New England fall foliage trips that I am planning, items from small businesses that I want to purchase and my first trip to go Halloween hunting! We're halfway through August now, students here in the US are getting ready to go back to school so I thought now would be the perfect time to share this first fall video of 2023. Just a tip, if you are planning any trips to New England this upcoming fall season, try to book accommodation as far in advance as possible. Prices go way up and it can become difficult to find good places to stay.

Seeing how happy you are about fall, I'm so glad you didn't move to Europe! The love of fall and all things pumpkin spice is truly a North American thing. There's no shops selling Halloween goodies over here, no themed foods or decor being put up. It's mostly a thing that children do, having a small fall market at their school, and it's mostly seen as juvenile or excessive. I miss the coziness and autumn/halloween vibe living over here so much and I'm grateful that your videos are here to create that fall magic 🤩

I think you'll really enjoy a bookbinding workshop! It's one of those things that looks really complicated until someone shows you how to do it. And if you want to pursue it further after the workshop, you really only need paper, stiff thread, scissors, glue, and a needle to keep making more books. It's a lovely and meditative hobby to have.

A great autumnal/wintery book that I adore with my whole heart is Little Thieves by Margaret Owen. The writing is absolutely incredible, the characters feel so alive and the mythology woven in is very atmospheric. It's my favourite book of all time and the sequel to it just came out this year!! 💛

This entire video is like being hugged by fall and I love it! Definitely getting into the spirit of it all. This is all so lovely. If you haven't head of it before and like vampire books, I recommend Sunshine by Robin Mckinley. It's an odd mix of coffee shop, supernatural and an interesting/odd setting that I have never figured out how to accurately describe. It's good though. Also Once and Future Witches by Alix Harrow (I am in love with this book so much, you have no idea, dear goodness) and The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman are both fantastic reads.

Speaking as a fellow lover of fall I have to say that Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown will be a dream to visit!! I went in 2019 and did Sunnyside, Lyndhurst Manor, the cemetery featured in Legend of Sleepy Hollow and the Great Jack o Lantern Blaze. It was absolutely amazing.

This video, as are your other ones, was amazing!! Mentioning Nine Liars and The Truly Devious Series, I would actually recommend you start with Truly Devious, the atmosphere and the story are much better in Truly Devious than in Nine Liars, and they don't spend much time in the countryside English Manor as expected. While in Truly Devious, the whole first trilogy is set in a remote bording school in Vermont, it's surrounded by nature and the campus has many statues, courtyards, brick buildings crawling with ivy and paths through the forest! I am 58 and every year since I was 16 I read my all-time favorite young adult (middle grade) book GHOSTS I HAVE BEEN by Richard Peck. It features the spunkiest character Blossom Culp. I shared it with my sister and friends and it became their favorite. Later I shared it with my younger sisters-in-laws, then my daughter and nieces, and now have shared it with my oldest granddaughter. Every single one of us wish we could meet Blossom Culp in person. The book begins on Halloween and is set in the early 1900s. There is a first book titled The Ghost Belonged To Me that has Blossom as the secondary character, but you can tell that Peck let Blossom take over the second book because she is just that kind of character. I wish I could include a photo of the 1980s book cover, because that’s what made me pick up the book and buy it without even reading the back! I hope that you try it. If you go to NH this fall you have to visit Peterborough, it’s a beautiful quintessential NE town - beautiful scenery,shops, restaurants-but most importantly they have my FAVORITE bookstore ( Toadstool) new and used books. Their cafe is wonderful.

Highly recommend visiting Portsmouth, New Hampshire in October if you'd like the ambiance of Salem without the massive crowds (still visit Salem- just not in October). Portsmouth has an incredible food scene, beautiful seaside neighborhoods to stroll through, and marvelous shops. They have a group of shops called the Pickwick's stores (Pickwick's Mercantile, Deadwick's Ethereal Emporium and their soda fountain/tea salon Fezziwig's Food and Fountain) that are definitely an "experience" store like you are talking about. There is also a beautiful, small living history museum called Strawbery Banke Museum, multiple historic cemeteries, and excellent ghost tours. Also, if you go up during the day, about 30 minutes away from Portsmouth is one of the best haunted walkthroughs in the country- Haunted Overload. It is a passion project on a farm and if you want to decrease the spooky level, you can walk through it in the daytime with no scare actors to just see all of the full-size wooden set pieces!

I really recommend visiting Edinburgh, Scotland. And first thing to do there before going around is doing the Harry Potter tour. The best way to be introduced to the city, in my opinion. It was the best combination of spooky and witchy. And of course visit it in Autumn :).

The summer in the Northeast has actually felt pretty short this year- good riddance!- we're already getting chilly mornings. BTW, The Great Jack O Lantern Blaze is in Croton- On-Hudson. Parking there is crazy, so if anyone is taking the train to Tarrytown or Philips Manor (the closest station to Sleepy Hollow cemetery on the Hudson Line). Croton is about 2- 3 stations to the north. Buying tickets before or just at the start of September is probably a good idea for any events in the Hudson Valley.
