This particular book is recommended for 8 to 10 year olds (I know 9 is the "sweet" spot). My son turns ten in late April, so I kind of feel like even though he will be in 5th grade next school year, he will still be within the suggested age range for this book for the majority of the school year. I could start him on CC as it is our first year, but I feel this is a better place. Which also makes me think he doesn't really need extensions. If he fits in the age range, and the work is at his level, I'm thinking the extensions would be unnecessary for him.

Your videos have been so helpful! We’ve used LHFHG and Beyond. We are doing a year of world geography from My Father’s World, but wanting to go back to HOD. I’m debating using Bigger or Preparing with my 4th and 2nd grader, keeping them together for history/science/Bible. You said you used Preparing for a 6th grader, so I’m curious if he continued with CtC, Res to Ref, and American history for high school or how you sequenced the rest of the years. I’m worried about my oldest not finishing 8th grade with American history if we jump back in with Bigger instead of Preparing. Thanks!

Do you think there are any Heart of Dakota guides that could work for a sixth grade and third grade girl together? Both of which are excellent readers and reading far above their grade levels.

So if your child is older do you use the extension pack instead of the other books?
