My bees have been going crazy over my blue pollen feeder I got. Have gone through 20lbs in the last month. Got to get some more feed for them!

I started this summer with 2 strong colonies and a strong nuc. I only have my nuc. The small hive beetles decimated my hives. So I'm just going to try to over winter my nuc and try again next year. Only this time I plan on being loaded for bear and plan on decimating the shb. But 2 good colonies and a nuc are about all I think I can handle. I'm in a wheelchair so moving heavy stuff isn't easy for me. But I will keep my bees as healthy and happy as I possibly can.

Hey have you tried the Charles Taplin Beetle Blocker shim? Looks like it works on his RU-vid video. Just wondering if yall carried any of them or have tried them.

You answered a question I have have, is it possible to keep this hobby to a one frame hive? Good to know it will not work, instead it sounds like one can keep it to a minimum of 3 somehow, do you have a video on that? Really enjoying you video's as I'm getting a complete hive next spring and you answer a lot of questions I have. All the best!

David I have a hive that is packed full of bees and I have a double deep Nuc that needs built up more can I take bees from my full hive and put them in to my nuc to build it up a little bit more.

Thank you David I will try that I need to do something because my one hive is pretty full and I don’t want them to swarm this time of year if it was earlier in the year I would be splitting that hive. Hay and by the way I am building me some 2 frame Nucs to use in the spring.

Help! I have three hives, ( two rescues and a Nuke). I added another rescue yesterday. Today my Nuke got robbed and two weeks ago one of my rescues got robbed. I can't tell if the robbers are from my yard (I don't think so). I will open them up this weekend to check the damage. How do you keep robbing down in your Barnyard?

An inspector found European Foulbrood. I was told I need to get a prescription from a vet for Oxytetracycline. I have been unsuccessful in getting this. Help me if you can. Please!

Your inspector should know a vet that will give you prescription, He should be able to email the vet and that would be confirmation enough. That is how NC does it. I know some people go to Tractor Supply and buy it as they sell for horses. Technically you need a prescription to use with bees.

Never should you put empty frames into a 5 frame nuc especially one that you arw wanting to build up asap. Always put drawn out frames, the queen needs places to lay

What would happen to an overcrowded hive that wanted to swarm, but a cold snap stopped it then winter hit? Can they overwinter like that?

Hi David, I got a nuc in the spring. The Queen was dead in the bottom The supplier made good on it. The nuc was very aggressive. They successfully requeened. They are still aggressive. She has a very good laying pattern. I am planning on requeening the hive in the spring. Is there anything else I can do to calm the hive?

I got a week 10 frame hive can I make it a 5 frame and add capped brood from another hive even though it's a 10 frame box. I don't have a 5 frame box.thanks

Good question, I have several old 10 frame boxes from a friend I would like to use or convert to a nuc if possible.

You can put 5 frames in the middle (some of these can be “donated” capped brood from another hive); shake bees off any largely empty frames and into the box. Make 2 dividers from 3/8” plywood or other thin material. Place on either side of the 5 frames. Put bubble wrap, wood chips, whatever, between dividers and sides of hive; this will improve insulation.

Last comment was re: a current colony in late fall. To use an extra 10 frame box as two nucs next year, make one divider, place it in the middle. Will need to close off half the entrance, and make a new entrance for that nuc on the other end (drill a 1” hole). Critical that the divider extends above the frames, flush with the ends and sides, so when the inner cover is in place there is no access for bees from one nuc to the other.
