I agree with FOOD FATIGUE in an emergency situation. That is why I grow and dry HERBS. It is not only medicine, but it helps to prevent food fatigue

Thank you so much! It’s also a good idea to keep extra water around, in leftover glass containers, to give to people in need. They could reuse the glass containers as well. Yes, peas and sweet potatoes are great options in my opinion. Be well.

We do canning from our garden and we raise our own pigs, goats, and chickens. However, we just added a dairy cow. But I agree with you, we hope to have more red meat canned or frozen.

You have a great plan. Love that your wife said to can the beans. We take pinto beans and make chili out of them. Besides bean soup. You can make up any of them that is cn the soup.

Only just found your channel. This is a great video. Mentioning fats. Your brain needs them to function. Long lasting fuel for your body as well. I had bought a lot of food fatigue instant foods for the kids and they have raided every last packet. It left room on my shelves for less appealing theft. Between you and i. I found a new hiding spot because it will be a huge issue if i have to rely on the stored foods. Scenarios also include a house fire or flood. I have multiple heavy duty boxes individually prepped with a weeks worth of essentials enough for 4 people in multiple places. One is in my car. I would always share. I would rather feed someone so they can survive an extra day than leave them to die and survive an extra day with the guilt. Thankyou!
@holisticheritagehomestead
@holisticheritagehomestead 10 месяцев назад
Thank you so much! Excellent point about fats! Yes, fires and floods are scenarios to consider. That is great that you have those boxes and very smart to have one in your vehicle. We will also try to help people. Besides being the moral thing to do, it also makes sense as far as survival. Here is a video I made briefly talking about not wanting hungry neighbors: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-R3BggswK-NI.htmlsi=n5PZ2RzqlpPqivTu Thank you so much for watching and commenting!

Thankful for your nutritional input. We too like to eat organic and grass fed. However, financially its too expensive to stock up on all organic so i buy non organic for our preps but they also say buy what youll eat. In an emergency youll eat almost anything, i know. Its a tough balance to strike i think
@holisticheritagehomestead
@holisticheritagehomestead 10 месяцев назад
I absolutely agree that it is a tough balance to strike. We have discussions about whether to go for quality over quantity. I think that sadly, quality foods can be prohibitively expensive. We cannot afford to get the volume of high quality foods that we would like. In an emergency, macronutrients and calories matter most. Thank you so much for your comment! I think there are people who also understand. Be well.

@@holisticheritagehomestead When I hear holistic or vegan or organic they usually are not open to realistic options. My wife and I try to eat healthy and maintain an active life style but with prices these days you sometimes don't have a choice. Prepping also includes financial Prepping too. Too many times I see people looking for money when all they have to do was prepare themselves early in life. I worked 60 to 80 hours a week with a good union company with good pay, benefits and pension. The day I got married I had a life insurance plan with my wife as a beneficiary that's good until I am 70. I set my kids up with jobs and they were able to buy houses at 19 and 20 years old. We donated our time to school and youth activities when our kids were younger and now it's time to relax.
@holisticheritagehomestead
@holisticheritagehomestead 10 месяцев назад
@ericgeorgetruckgrilling Thank you for the explanation. That’s great that you prepped financially. Financial preparedness is a big part of prepping. We definitely are not vegans; we are huge advocates of eating animal based foods for health reasons. Organic is great and we are advocates of eating organic, but only buy what we can afford. Holistic just means “encompassing the whole of a thing”. It’s just our approach to think of interconnectedness and the big picture. For example: Exercising is beneficial for both physical and mental health. Being in shape means people can be more productive. Being more productive can lead to a higher standard of living. Examples like that… Be well.

don't forget spinach and kale for iron. needed especially if you are anemic or pregnant. if you are pregnant you will become anemic by 9th month.
@holisticheritagehomestead
@holisticheritagehomestead 10 месяцев назад
Yes, spinach and kale are excellent choices. In the video I show a can of spinach and mentioned that we got 12 large cans of spinach. Spinach and kale are also relatively easy to grow. Some types of kale can grow in cold weather. I believe heme iron, which is from animal foods such as beef, is better absorbed by the body than non-heme iron which is found in plant foods. That is a great point to mention about pregnant women possibly becoming anemic. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!

There are so many people, especially seniors, that cannot afford the basics. Watching all you preppers, while much respect, wonder if you ever think of anyone else.

@lightgiver7311
@lightgiver7311 10 месяцев назад
@@alk3078 You missed the message here. I am asking you, not Joe to look in on Seniors living in apartments. Even if it's a couple of cans of tuna, a loaf of bread and mayonnaise, we cannot forget them. Now that Biden had let 7 million illegals cross the borders, the food banks are feeding many of them, where I live, a few of us go monthly to a Seniors apartment, we all meet in the large meeting room with food. We bring bags for them to pick up the things they can use for the month. You can live by "me first" or while you are stocking up, put aside a few items, organize with your friends and do the same.
@holisticheritagehomestead
@holisticheritagehomestead 10 месяцев назад
I have so much to say in response to that comment. First of all, I think that almost everybody can afford the basics of water and food. Even if that means putting five dollars a week towards preps. Most people can find a way to work that into their budgets. If not, most people can probably find a way to earn five dollars more a week. I do not know if you watched the video, but I specifically mention the option of taking those beans and putting them into 1 pound portions and giving them to people in need. I think that preppers are arguably the most caring and selfless people, because by being prepared they make themselves less of a burden on other people. I think they truly selfish people are the ones who do not prepare and then have the sense of entitlement that makes them think that others and/or the government should take care of them. High quality foods might be prohibitively, expensive, but rice, beans, and certain types of protein are very, very cheap. If people have $1.50 they can buy 1 gallon of distilled water a week and get a stockpile going. I think the more common problem, is some people are too lazy, and do not want to be responsible and accountable for their own actions, or lack thereof. From my personal experience, preppers are some of the kindest, most selfless, caring people out there. We work very, very hard for our money, and are far from financially wealthy. We make sacrifices in order to make sure we put away some extra food and water. While I believe in voluntary altruism, and being charitable, I think I have a responsibility to take care of my family and myself. Just like other people have the responsibility to take care of themselves. I do not expect anyone else to take care of me. If they do, that should be voluntary. Everybody is a prepper, to a certain degree. If you put on your seatbelt, when you get into a vehicle, you are a prepper. If you have any insurance policy whatsoever, you are a prepper. If you ever try to save money, you are a prepper. If you ever trained in any form of self defense, you are a prepper. I might have more to say, but I will stop there… If you are mentally and physically capable of taking care of yourself and prepping, I suggest you do that. Otherwise, you might have to find out the hard way if preppers will take care of you or not. I do appreciate you watching and commenting, even though you might have assumed that we do not think about other people. If you watch the video in it’s entirety, you would have heard me talking about giving. Be well. - Colin
@holisticheritagehomestead
@holisticheritagehomestead 10 месяцев назад
Why would you assume that alk3078 does not and/or will not help others? I absolutely think that people should help seniors, mentally, handicapped, physically, handicapped, or anyone that really needs help. That is very nice that you and others do gather and do nice things for seniors. Again, being a prepper and taking care of yourself and your family is absolutely selfless because it means that the burden of taking care of oneself won’t be pushed onto others. Philosophically, one could absolutely argue that if senior citizens aren’t prepared, they should have prepped before they were seniors and put themselves in better positions. Most people can’t handle that harsh truth. That’s a different discussion. Self-reliance can actually lead to being selfless. One must be strong in order to help others. I also mentioned before that most people, even seniors with fixed income, can prep in some capacity. I think you might be making assumptions that preppers don’t care about anyone except themselves and that you have a monopoly on being charitable. Not fair to assume. Thank you for commenting.

If they can't afford food, what do they do? Food banks, food stamps etc? You can still put away some of the things you get from food banks. There is no reason on earth, right now, that people no matter what their means, cannot put away some food for a rainy day. Many preppers are also collecting food for friends and family. Myself, I am also prepping for a friend who still has her head in the clouds and doesn't believe food shortages will happen, or anything bad is going to happen, and if it does, the government will look after us. I said to her, hey, write to your MP and ask him how much food and water he/the gov have stored away for you and for how long. People will soon find out the gov will not take care of us.
