Great haul - real practical. I didn't realize that you could still get that bread in a can. We used it eat it regularly for dinner when I was a kid in the 60's. It was called Boston Brown Bread and was readily available at the grocery store.

I store powdered sugar for a LONG time and it's just fine. I put in a freezer bag [still in original bag also] and put in my 'sugar cave' i.e. an old deep freezer that no longer works. I use it for making frostings of all kinds--chocolate, orange, cream cheese, for cakes, cinnamon rolls, sugar cookies . . . also for making fudge at Christmas. A quick snack is graham cracker 'sandwich' made w/frosting.

Same here. I keep powdered sugar in a large plastic container that once held pretzels. LOL Works perfect and the sugar stays dry. Easy to put that sugar through a sieve if you need the powder to be 'extra fine', like for icing. Since we're not big on sweets, a couple of pounds of powdered sugar lasts us years & years.

@GreyManPrepping I lost all my food preps in a move. I was supposed to move from Fl to Syracuse NY. Had hired a moving company and 10 days before the move the house I was moving to was deemed uninhabitable from mold. My brothers empty house. My belongings were shipped anyway and he insisted on storing them in a shed outside exposed to heat and cold for the last two years. I’m 70 on a fixed income and I have to start over. I’m carnivore so of course the most expensive things to restock are meat. I’m living with my cousin in SC because there’s nowhere for me to go. Thanks for this video. I have been storing the Domino powdered sugar. I put it in 5 gallon food grade buckets. I am unable to say how long it will keep though. I make cakes and glazed items, so I go through a lot if it. I am starting to cut back in the cake business, so will be able to access better. With that said, I did find a bucket that was a year old and it was still the same as I purchased it. Another tip. Powdered sugar is granulated sugar that has been put through a blender or chopped. So you can make your own at home. I have 200 lbs of salt in storage. It is not only for cooking but for meat preservationas well as for fermented foods, pickles etc. I like to get all sorts of different foods in my pantry. Food fatigue is very common in hard times and having something different occasionally will help to break that up. We love ethnic foods too. So having different products to make those foods will go a long way in helping with the hum drum everyday foods.

First time viewer. I really like that you show your usage of the pantry and how it works for your family. For the water, is that a load-bearing wall next to it? Remember, water weighs a lot and it might be better to place the second rack by a different wall. Good luck with the upcoming hurricane season.

Yes, YES to pantry tour. I get most of my good ideas by copying what someone else did and revising it to my situation. Thank you for sharing. I appreciate you. Stocking what your family likes is key to good rotation. I have sweetened condensed milk and I know it's fine 2 yrs past expiration date. I do store a little powdered sugar but honestly, you can just throw regular sugar into a coffee grinder or ninja and powder it. About storing bulk water - get yourself 2 blue 55-gal drums. Store water in them. Put a piece of countertop or plywood over them and have a work surface. Of course, you need a way to get water out. That canned meat is wonderful!

I feel that pantry tours are helpful and would like to see a pantry tour. I keep different items for my disabled teen who has issues chewing foods, I keep instant mashed potatoes, jars of baby food veggies to mix in rice, pasta and mashed potatoes. Canned chicken and tuna. I found a recipe for mayo using powdered eggs. Not a pantry food, but I keep a binder of hand written recipes. Once 3 years ago I had an emergency I was in the hospital for 3 days, family took care of my disabled teen, I was very thankful I had plenty of food for my teen and family, plus when I was back home I had foods easy to fix. Having a small pantry was a huge blessing

To save space in my pantry, make your own powdered sugar by grinding up white sugar in the blender. I also don't buy boxed mac and cheese since they take up so much space and instead stock up on dried milk, cheese and cream powders as well as pasta and make my own. I like to prepare a big batch of pasta salad when the weather is warm to make quick meal for a couple of days. For my pasta salads I like to keep canned chicken or tuna, jars of pesto, olive tapenade, sun dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts and banana peppers.

A very good pantry haul, Grey. Good choice on the Roast Beef Hash. Love that. I also stock the roasted peppers. You never know when you will have a bad year for peppers in your garden. Powder sugar, put in mylar bags. The plastic bags start to break down in a short time and cause a foul taste and smell in the sugar. So my suggestion is to get rid of all plastic bags. I think you can use it, in a pinch, as a substitute for granulated sugar because basically it is ground sugar. Hope someone else knows about this. I was in my pantry just before this video came on and I found a leaking can of Bruce's Yams. It is the gold colored can, if that makes any difference. They were dated 2019. Sweetened condensed milk will change color on you. Still tastes fine but use it to make chocolate candy, caramel or anything that you don't need to have that white color. I tried the Walmart brand of lunch meat instead of Spam. It really is good and a better price. Have you thought about water glassing eggs? I think that's what it's called. I believe I may try a dozen or so just to see if it will work. We all know eggs will never be .69/dozen again. I just don't know anyone that has done this and how you can use them. If you have any knowledge, please share.

NICE pantry, Grey!❤ I recently made a simple "pantry" meal for a friend who normally won't eat canned food and therefore won't store it. A can of corned beef hash + a can of green beans, drained, (corn or any preferred veg. could be used), browned in a skillet, stirring frequently. Add 2 slightly beaten eggs, cook and stir until they are distributed and well done. My friend loved it and asked if the meat was bacon.😊 [The secret is it must be browned.] There could be several variations to match tastes. Thanks for your video!🎉

@@GreyManPrepping so salt must have been a precious commodity and hard to come by. The Priests would realize how costly, and so would the peoples who were aware this was a requirement. Would they obey and give up that salt or not? Was God more important to them than their stomachs?

Love it ! I’m so sick of having to tell ppl to stop calling cooked cabbage sauerkraut! When you expose sauerkraut to heat it’s not a ferment anymore it’s just cooked cabbage !!! For the icing sugar … check the ingredients… it’s not just sugar so you just go by the other ingredients to assume the shelf life ! I personally store everything in big glass canning jars

Thanks Grey. I love B&M bread especially the raisin bread. I grew up eating it on holidays and special occasions. My favorite way of eating it is to slice it, toast it on a preheated, buttered griddle, then put some good homemade jelly or jam on it and have it with breakfast. I have several cases of it. It keeps long past the BBD. The price has tripled since I started stocking it so I use it sparingly. I can sometimes find it at my Kroger but it's still expensive. I like the roast beef hash as well as I do the corned beef hash. Mary Kitchens is the best brand for my taste. I've never seen the breakfast hash. I'll have to look for it. The sweetened condensed milk keeps many years after the BBD but it does turn caramel color just like the evaporated milk does. The brand doesn't matter to me. I'll have to look for the chocolate milk the next time I go to Dollar Tree. I do like an occasional quart of chocolate milk lol. Much Love ❤

If Steve likes your stash of Keystone then he'd love mine.😄👍. I love pantry hauls. I hadn't seen the Chocolate milk since last year. Which DT did you find it at? The spouse loves it. We stock the B&M bread too. I read that iodized salt is only good for 5 years. I guess it dissipates or something. Nice haul, Grey.

I was truly surprised that Keystome saw that informational video I did, Steve was very cool and kind. I found the chocolate milk at the DT in Hammock Landing shopping Plaza. In regards to the salt, "iodized," I have a few reasons why I'm storing that variety, unlike my canning salt and a few others, That being said so with iodized "table salt" technically does not go bad, but the iodine content will decrease over time, the storage time "BBD" shown is for best quality only. And yes, I'm so glad Rudy shared B&M bread! 😁👍

Great pantry haul, Grey!! I agree with your daughter on the Hormel breakfast sausage hash. That stuff is the bomb, as far as canned sausage that I have found. The roast beef tasted a little better than the corned beef but not by much. And the B&M canned bread I’ve had in stock for years. It gets a bit dry the older it gets.
