Can I just say thanks? Your approach to tutorials is a much easier flow to follow and understand. What frustrates me with a lot of tutorials out there is how they teach you things when you have so many questions for efficiency and best practices FIRST before diving in and thinking you know what you're doing.

Thank you! This was great. I want to use layout, but I always stumble on the best way to get my drawings in shape to be opened up in layout. This video provides a great starting point.

Thanks as always Aaron. One thing I do that seems to help is set up 2 styles for each "look", one with section cut active, the other not active. "Active" for sections, "not active" for exterior elevations. Avoids section cuts appearing in layout when not expected.

Thanks, Aaron. This is process is a tough one to describe without causing confusion; you clarified/demonstrated it extremely well. The video really the demonstrates that SEQUENCING of processes is so important in economizing the effort one has to spend. Many of the complaints about SU modeling to provide final output (for print, presentation, project review, and, yes, even Layout) can be remedied surprisingly by developing a procedure AND recognizing that one procedure may not work well in different situations, but it may take practice and experience to discover best methods. I see also, that it may be advantageous (at least when a model design is firm/finalized) to make an extra copies of a model and START FROM SCRATCH IN in each model, CREATING SCENES relevant to desired result.

I just watched this a second time. I am working hard on the Paulk Total Station Ultralight and need to start from scratch with so many changes in the "As Built." I have invested 25 minutes to watch this twice and it will save me hours, but more importantly, I will be much less frustrated. I am subscribed and waiting from your next video drop. Hurry Up, I need the help😎

Thanks, Aaron, great info on prepping the model before sending it to LayOut! I use SketchUp Pro to design furniture to build in my workshop. I would *really love* to see how you prep a furniture (or any mechanical / industrial design) model so that all the individual parts can be efficiently arranged, dimensioned, etc., in LayOut. It takes me a long time the way I approach model preparation for LayOut, putting each individual part on its own unique layer. An even bigger challenge for me is separating out just one part on its own layer when there are multiples of that part used throughout my design, which is often the case. I have a sense that lots of folks who do other than architectural design with SketchUp would really benefit, too.

Very simple instructions and e3asy to follow. When you draw your walls, do you include the finish thickness? If so, when you go to layout, how do dimension the framing?

@willjimenez6452
@willjimenez6452 5 лет назад
@@aarondietzen2995 Hi Aaron, Thanks for the reply. What I'm referring to is a site plan that is required on a set of plans for plan-check approval. It will show fully dimensioned property lines, the footprint of a proposed building(s) or proposed addition to an existing building. Landscaping and hardscaping will also be incorporated into this plot plan. If I may, I can send you a PDF or JPEG sample of what I'm referring to.

I dont like use hiden geometry. Layers and style settings works much better, imho. For example, I never have visible section cuts in my styles, also layers visibility managed by scenes is amazing. And for me is crucial to have scenes alligned - when I switch 1st adn 2nd floor, they must match in view (no transition nor anything else except active section cut). Nick Sonder is great in preparing SU for LO.
@aarondietzen2995
@aarondietzen2995 5 лет назад
Sounds like a great workflow! I really only hide sections because it is so easy to toggle using Outliner.

Hello Aaron, is there a preferred method, for constructing an interior (or exterior for that matter), interior sketches room model, to eventually go into layout that you know will be constructed as a set? My meaning being that, some of the outside walls/flats will be single clad and dividing walls etc could be double clad. But each wall/flat is an individual build. Hope that makes sense? Best Alex,
@apeGER

I don´t like to save the camera location in sketchup, except for strange angles. I prefer to set the camera location in layout, because, if I re-save an available scene again I often save inadvertently a new camera location and that ends up in a distort layout view.

Is this similar to Matt Donley's SketchUp to LayOut process? I am most familiar with Nick Sonder's process and somewhat familiar with Michael Brightman's process.

@@aarondietzen2995 I have education and experience in drafting & design. I've been using SketchUp for only 2 years and primarily used AutoCAD in the past. I have been considering the ConDoc Tools for about a year. Nevertheless, I have been learning the Medeek BIM plugins for 2 or 3 months. Now that the LayOut API is available, I'm hoping for improved functionality in the future.
