You are absolutely fabulous. What stores do you usually do your grocery shopping at? Do you ever stock up on water? Can you possibly do some in store grocery shopping videos? It would be awesome if you could show how you do your full shopping
Enjoyed this very informative video! Thanks for sharing! Hope you all have some great quality time together on your trip to see Jill & Jess. 👍🏻😇 I know this because Jill let the cat out the bag in her latest video. Lol 😂 We are so excited that @Roots & Refuge are moving to our state SC 👍🏻🙏🏻😇🙌🏻 Praying for you all.
Thank you thank you thank you! I couldn’t understand why my garden was suffering until you mentioned using the right mulch…I was gifted a hay bale which now that I thought about it could’ve been treated…yikes! Hoping it’ll recover.
Ughhhh. That is so frustrating!! Not sure how big your garden is but you may be able to dig up your plants and replant in fresh soil. I did that with my seed starts and they bounced back!
Leaves, if not used for mulch are an amazing filler material for compost! I live in a cooler, wetter climate and we have leaves in abundance. So I use them as both mulch and compost (regular compost bins as well as in my vermicompost)… just know they break down fairly quickly so I usually have to add more leaves a few times a year.
Hi Ms. Natalie, I recently wrote a short report for our local rose society. I am 66 1/2 and have been a life long professional gardener. In my report about composting, after listening to Charles Dowding, he states: Compost is a biological stimulant which feeds soil life and enables soil organisms to help plant roots find food and moisture. Think of compost as an enabler rather than a primary source of food. Hope this helps. btw straw has no seeds, hay has seeds. Make sure the hay or straw source is organic and does not contain an herbicide. I live in Humboldt County zone 9b. God Bless.
Hmmm, Jill is closing on her house Friday...oooooh, I hope you are too! 😉 You're in good company, I too purchased "potting soil" that was too early for planting. Shame on those companies and the stores that sold it. I hope other new gardeners didn't feel like a failure and give up on such a great hobby. See you in Arkansas or South Carolina. Have a safe and fun trip.
Lots of information that I appreciate. This whole thing is really a learning process. I'm experimenting with wood chips this year on most of my garden space and if it doesn't work I'll go back to my leaves.
Hi! Sorry I haven't commented in a while. I've had the same issue with compost not being completely broken down this year. Luckily I only used it in some of my bags and 2 of my new raised beds. The existing ones were ok. The companies are going to unknowingly loose a lot of business by rushing. Learning lesson for them as well I suppose. I'm glad to see you are well and the baby is growing so fast. She is absolutely adorable!!💗
Hi!! Thank you! I’m so glad you were able to identify it as the company’s issue and not your fault. You may be able to get a refund if you contact the manufacturer.
In the wild fire prone desert of southern california, rock makes good "mulch" too. Layer of landscape fabric, then rock on top. Isn't flammable like bark can be.
I love your input and way of sharing! I have used my organic lawn grass clippings as mulch for yrs along with Maple, Apricot and some Elm leaves from my trees, All Free!! Just a FYI, be very careful NOT to use Walnut Tree leaves or wood chips, which can be toxic... Can't give you details, but do your research! Ruby is darling! Can't wait to see your updates visiting your sweet friends who are in their moves!! Prayers for Safe Travels!! 🙏🙌🥰🤩👭👭🌻🍉🥒😊
Great discussion!! If I may offer another resource....contact ur local county ag extension office. My county's office is a wealth of info and r very eager to help. They even offer a variety of classes.
I called our local nursery asking for help with white flies, aphids, beneficial insects and she suggested covering the soil with worm casting to deter white flies, since you are the worm casting queen I would like to know your opinion/experience. I am in your climate. I've been experimenting with vermiculite, tulle and compost, wood chips that I screened out of last year's (lousy) potting mix or combination of those as mulch for my pots, I don't see much of a difference so far.
Hmmm. I’d be curious why they suggested that. In our climate, castings will dry our very quickly as a mulch. I would (and have) however, use aerated worm tea on the whole garden. Aerated worm tea will boost beneficial microbes on the plants and help deter pests. It’s similar to how when we have all our nutrients we are less prone to illness. You can use the tea to spray of aphids which is the best way to get rid of aphids aside from having a lot of ladybugs around. La Corazon has a great mulch that does great here. If not, I’d use leaves but I’m sure you know that already 🤪 I hope that helps!! PS if you are using any synthetics (miracle gro or others) they will weaken plant immunity to pests as well so I’d start switch over to local and organic when and where possible!!
@@heyitsagoodlife I use worm tea and Neptune's harvest organic liquid fertilizer, trifecta plus and worm casting in hole or two refresh the potting mix between plantings. I have green laced wings eggs all over the place but I might be squishing those larvae with the white flies so I thought I could add to their population then I am having second thoughts about the cost effecivness.
