The EIAJ/CCIR videotape format was introduced in the early 1970s and became a popular format for recording video. Despite its widespread use, EIAJ / CCIR tapes have become difficult to play due to the aging of the tape and the scarcity of compatible machines. However, the Australian Television Archive has a fleet of EIAJ machines that have been refurbished in-house to offer high-quality recovery and digitisation of historic video.
This effort ensures that important historical content recorded on EIAJ tapes can be preserved and made accessible for future generations, highlighting the archive's commitment to preserving Australia's cultural heritage.
