Luke Currie-Richardson is an Indigenous storyteller through his work as a photographer, dancer, poet, actor and model.
From 2012 to 2018 Luke was a company dancer in Bangarra showcasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island contemporary culture around the world. In 2021 he wrote and performed his first spoken word titled ‘Social Media’ in The Sydney Festival. Most recently, in June 2024, Luke was a finalist in the 2024 National Photographic Portrait Prize.
On this episode we discuss how Luke channels his Indigenous heritage to create in contemporary forms, why its preservation is important to him and his community, discovering his own identity as an Indigenous man, the joys and pains of his personal and professional life being as one, the challenges with defining what Australian culture is and so much more.
