As an atheist American, I honestly loved the openness of Biden and his wife Jill talking about their late son, Beau. I know from experience its hard losing someone so close. I fully respect this and their faith. I'd never have a problem with this openness of faith and I feel they'll be more open about all others who don't share that faith

Agreed on their openness - faith inspires many to do kind and good deeds, and it can be solace for people through grief. But I never feel like they are pushing it on us, just sharing a part of their lives that is important to their hearts. I know that they will respect and appreciate secular ethics and other faiths as just as valid for others.
There are tears in my eyes. I'm actually listening to somebody who isn't yelling an insane or hate-filled screed; isn't ignoring the +320K who have died & whose families are alone in their grief, not to mention the caregivers & their families. These people aren't scheming, patronizing, conning, or spewing their maladaptive psychosis until it permeates everything I see, hear, and look at. I loved when President Elect Biden said that one day, when you think of your loved ones who have died, you’ll smile first instead of coming to tears. That’s so true! Having lost my daughter and husband many years ago, I now consider myself lucky to have had them in my life. Even though it was not as long as I had hoped, I still got the chance to know them, and love them! Of course, there are still times that it’s difficult. But it’s better than not ever having them at all. 🙂

Normally its a terminal sentence and I've been struggling knowing that my father might go through an agonizing end. I've felt hopeless and terrified, not wanting time to advance because of what I know will be coming over the hill. But for the first time beginning at 4:44, I felt a connection with someone that (mind you lost his son to cancer) looked me dead in the eye and told me that it'll be ok. I recorded those 15 seconds for when the end eventually does come, and I'll look back to that video where he reminds me "when I think of him and I'll get a smile on my lips before a tear in my eye, and when that time comes you know you'll make it." I don't know how you saw these as breadcrumbs, this man gave me hope again; a hope for a painful time that I know will eventually arrive.

I’m getting a lump in my throat so often lately whenever I hear one of these two speak. Their empathy is reflexive, they’re thoughtful and so human. I think the reason it’s so touching is because it’s been missing for 4 years, eloquence (and by that I mean the ability to string a sentence together) and humility (the ability to not make it about themselves).

We couldn't understand why such a traumatic event, made even worse than our pandemic by having it happen during a world war, could go unspoken by the survivors. It’s such a strange experience to hear the Bidens talk. They are not like the Obamas, who are both dazzlingly natural leaders, with powerful speeches that easily charm the world. In fact, the Bidens give me the feelings that they are the more background people. I think that’s why a lot of people didn’t see Biden as their first pick back then. But there is this strange soothing calmness in them that makes my heart feel so peaceful just by simply listening to them talk. It’s as if all the clamor and frustrations just suddenly disappear. I guess, if the Obamas are embodiments of hope, energy, dream, and change, then the Bidens are embodiments of empathy, compassion, perseverance, and faith. Even though previously I only root for him because I am against Trump, but now I really admire him. This kind of personal quality in a President is exactly what we need at this particular time of history when there’s desperate longing for healing. Empathy for those who have different ideals, compassion for those who have experienced loss in this pandemic, perseverance that we will get through this even though it may be painful and hard, and faith in democracy, in the better natures of people, and in the fact that there will be light in the end of this darkness.

To behave hard and tough when confronted with grief and pain is only suitable when you already have shown compassion and understanding and had time to grieve to be able to get things done. But to do so without sincerely being empathetic or sympathetic to begin with just shows lack of understanding, immaturity, fear and weakness to be able to embrace things that are tough to feel. To be "hard" or "strong" is actually the opposite as it is a testament to running away from the hard things or "shielding" yourself from feeling what can be very heavy to go through. So actually, Joe is showing strength and courage by allowing himself to acknowledge and to tap in to that hurt. That makes him more human and easier to identify with. That is real power.

Jill Biden seems awesome. I never really took an interest back when she was in the White House, but hearing her speak was really comforting. I think America will fall in love with her. Also, I am wondering if it will be hard for Trump trolls to resist this family's compassion and honestly.
It's crazy to think that she has already been the second lady for 8 years and it still feels like we didn't see her much until now. Michelle took a lot more of the spotlight as is typical for first ladies, but I look forward to seeing more of what Jill does in schools and does for the people
President Biden is heartbroken. I feel the same way. I'm beat to a pulp from the last four years. But I'm still standing. Let's get our Country healthy and strong. Build a stronger foundation not a flimsy wall.
