I got the President Bill with the New Yorker which is the same as the Virginia antenna. Its a nice combo for new cars with not alot of room for a radio. Got my radio beside the passenger seat console. Does exactly what you need it for just a few miles of range.

Just put that antenna on my pickup with the Bill. I bought them as a package and pairs good with each other. SWR meter doesn’t even move. This antenna is magic. I also have mine on a Mitsubishi Mirage and it works as good as my Wilson Lil Wil did. If on the back of the vehicle slanted back, it is more directional in the forward direction and signals behind you are quieter.

Thanks so much for this review Eric. Now I am going to have to buy one for my car. I am a licensed ham operator, but I enjoy CB as well. One of the main reasons I don't have a CB in my car was that antennas were just too long. Now I have a great alternative antenna to take care of that problem. I think your review videos are great!! The outside antenna is solved here. Getting inside is an issue. Wonder how the small coax will hold up to being squashed by window? I have a radio in my truck but wife hates them in car due to installation of cable and there is no room in our Explorer. If I go on a road trip we will have a cb. In days gone by, I remember a radio that could be put in trunk or under seat and all controls were in the mike. Also once talked to a guy who had a hand held with a shakespear tied on that he held out the window. Could not believe how well that worked. Of course, I guess wind noise was an issue. On this set up shown I wonder if you can buy a replacement cable that just plugs in. As in past: always carry a spare mike. In this case a spare coax may be a good idea. Great video.🦇

I get pretty good range out of it, but it is fairly tall mounted on top of the cab on my pickup. How do you think this new Virginia Antenna would perform vs my Wilson 1000? I have a question, using a power mic with a radio that has gain control. I have a 10DA on a tug9 stand, its a amplified mic. What do i do with mic gain control on radio, turn it to 0 and use only power from mic?? Or put radio gain half way and adjust the mic gain to achieve only forward swing with no back swing. Normally i been using a noise cancelling mic and wanted to put back in service my 10DA. But i noticed back swing on ssb. I believe i still need a good mod foundation from radio and dial in the mic, correct?
@FarpointFarms
@FarpointFarms 8 месяцев назад
It's a bit of a dance. On my old Uniden Washington I had the mic gain set to 8 out of 10 with my power mic to get the best sound and range. You'll really need a second person about 1 mile down the road to get it set right as too much gain makes it muffled sounding and too little makes it sound faint and distant.

People don't realize that shortened antennas are usually very inefficient. A full size 1/4 wave antenna is about 108" and is efficient. Less than half of that, say 4.5 feet is a serious compromise but can be usable. Less than that, and the majority of your power is converted to heat. And yes, I am an an antenna engineer.

I've got a 102" mag mount antennae like you demonstrated on your wifes' car(?) in the SWR video with the Cobra 75. I'm not sure how I'm going to mount it with my camper on the truck. I've got a 2006 F450 and the hood isn't flat to the sides where I was hoping to install it on the drivers side close as I could to the windshield on the side of the hood. Ideally I'd like to have an antennae on my campers roof so I'm probably going to have to get something else that'll work on the roof. I'm wondering what a back bumper placement is going to do to reception with all that camper in the way forward. Will I only hear behind me? I've seen that side roof bracket they use on campers but in my driving environment, that's going to last about a month on the outside and more than likely cost me money for the damage I do with it. I'll probably just install the radio in the truck and just see what happens when I put the antennae in various locations on the truck and camper. I'll need to figure out a disconnection point if it ends up on the camper. I do have that neat bluetooth mic so I can plug that into the 12v jack in the camper. I'm pretty excited about that! Parked at a rest stop hanging out in my camper with nothing but highway traffic right in front of me! Reminds me that I'll want to install the radio under the back seat because it's a crew cab. What's the effect of reception if I installed the 102" antennae on the camper roof back at like a 30 degree angle? Does it need to point up? Isn't "up" relative? I've already got an idea how to make that mount adjustable to be able to put the antennae straight up when I'm stopped, if that matters. And as long as I'm not keying the mic, I can listen all I want right? Since the SWR won't be matched for the reception testing. Sorry for all the stream of consciousness questions....But sometimes I don't know what I think until I see what I say!
@FarpointFarms
@FarpointFarms 3 месяца назад
The camper would certainly change the radiation pattern. I'd go with a shorter roof mount for that setup.

I’m looking to have this in my car for safety reasons so that when I’m in the north woods of Pennsylvania or wandering around West Virginia, I can still have a means of communication if I need it. My questions are will this work on 10m? And as far as 10 and 11m do you think this will have the punch to get the signal out when in the woods or in a canyon or should I send this back and get something bigger to keep in my trunk?

If its rated for 50 to a 100 watts pep then rms power will probably be a quarter of that if that. It all depends on specs because looks can be deceiving it could be rated higher

Well , I don’t like being obvious either . So that model of antenna looks good . But um , actually as close to center mass as you can get is the best if you wanna transmit . Receive ing is a no brainer . And I like the idea of doing as little damage to the roof of my car as possible . I have an antenna that recommended cutting a hole in my roof and running the coax over the head liner . And I’m like , nope , not going to happen . The only problem with magnetic mount antennas is water and dirt gets under them , cause ing a weakened ground to the vehicle body . But you just have to be vigilant , and clean your roof off now and then .

Never do I hear truckers on 19 now, except very rarely. It has it's limitations for sure. This fits my wife's car well, and offers a range of around 4 miles in real world results.

YOu can't always trust what it says on the package. You should verify the manufacturer's claims.

I do trust the claims that bigger manufactures claim, the off brands not so much

When you want to have a CB antenna on your car without looking like you have a CB antenna on your car. 🤷 😅

Too small. Minimum 36" if you want to get past three miles at least. Today, I wouldn't buy an antenna under 48" like a Wilson 1000, K40, or Tram 3500 etc.

I agree that those will give you better range, but not everyone wants one that big on their car

Apparently you didn't watch the range test part of this video? I was pretty clear at anything 5 miles or closer in heavy foliage and steep mountains.
