The President of India is the ceremonial head of state and the highest constitutional authority in the country. Elected indirectly by an electoral college consisting of elected members of both houses of Parliament and state legislatures, the President's role is largely ceremonial. However, they play crucial roles in matters such as appointing the Prime Minister, summoning sessions of Parliament, promulgating ordinances, and representing India internationally. The President also has the power to grant pardons, commute sentences, and issue ordinances under certain circumstances.
