I live in the flats of central Iowa and last spring I had my buddy take my Chevy pickup that has a 5' whip antenna on the front fender and a bone stock Cobra 29. I stood in an empty field with my Randy. We performed the test until I got so cold from the wind, I made him come back and get me. We were 8.5 miles as the crow flies and still having an S5 conversation. During the test, I was also hearing my locals south of me 20 miles away. They couldn't hear me, obviously. People think these radios don't work well because they have such good garbage rejection that they seem 'weak' or 'quiet' on receive, but really, they're making use of filtering. I was super stoked to see my Randy perform just like yours does in this video. And I've had people online tell me I'm lying, but it is what it is. I don't think it makes sense for most people to spend 150 dollars for one of these, but I like mine.
Makes plenty of sense to buy one. I also got like 7 miles between with the HYS whip antenna 52 inch across town. Small commercial buildings in between.
Mullet Man ..... President should give you something... because after watching this video you sold me on it.... I had to have one too... just bought it.. I'll range test it against my old favorite handheld the TRC 216 which always blew me away but I got a feeling this will be better. ... GREAT video thank you!
@@user-zy4cq6vo3q I now have 4 Randy's!!!! when I see one on E-bay cheap I just have to buy it.... I had planned to take a different handheld CB out and range test it ever week... try it at one mile, then two, then three, all the way up to five miles away... and see what the best CB handheld is ...( I have over 50 handheld CB's ) I bought all kinds of test equipment and camera's and tripods to make RU-vid videos of my tests...but life is always busy and have yet to even do one range test
I’ve gone through several Midland 75-785’s and just ordered this Randy 2 radio. I need it for my work as a Steerman for the wind turbine blades when we are loading and unloading or when I’m walking a corner. Ordered the speaker mic with it.
I'm a big fan of President electronics. Ive been running a President McKinley in my rig for a few years now and never had a problem getting out. I just ordered a Randy fcc and Can't wait for it to get here.
I bought the Randy III from Amazon UK Delivered to USA, it doesn't have weather channels, has CTCSS tones and DCS codes, and a better car kit.cost me a little more but I feel it's worth it. Did the export mod too.
The 3 was also out before the 2 FCC version. The FCC version is apparently impossible to mod as well so the UK 3 version is well worth it since the regular USA 40 channels are useless.
Great video. One thing tho. I have this radio and yes i love it. I plug it to 102 whip on my van and was amazed. Back to the one thing . If you want one of these . Iwould recomend thee uk version. I went on amazon used thr switch country option to uk and ordered the uk version. You get more options on this other randy you have more power and many more frequencies. Plus ctcss. Anyway 73s . Love the video. Love this radio Oh yeah. I plugged this up to a galaxy 225 . And a 102 whip. And was able to shoot some skip . Sorry nope i will not be making any self incriminating videos. Good fun tho. Damm fcc ruining cb for 100 years.
Impressive range. As someone new to this I want to ask what is a home base, as I’d imagine such results would not be possible on handheld to handheld. Can this handheld be used as home base so long as it has a certain antenna? Also I wonder what the range would be vehicle to vehicle with antennas you had. Thanks great video
You need to try the Thunderpole TX... Great radio . Push two buttons and it opens the freeband... unlimited channels. Let's you receive 26.805 FM Calling channel
The "original social network" not really. Telephone party lines, and unintentional conferences when telephone switching systems either failed or were misconfigured where many telephone users were bridged together were first.
@@JohnnyMullet yup. Thx. Gotta throw on the external. Easy with mag mount on truck but main car all non metal so gotta clip on trunk and not ruin paint. Thx for responding
OK, how do they do it? Nothing like breaking up the old-school, conventional wisdom that CB radios just don't really work very well. Now, next thing you know, the innovative manufacturers are going to make 27 MHz FM an impressive mode of operation. Cool video. Video really makes good points.
@@JohnnyMullet What I mean is if you were on a mountain then you can get that much range otherwise I'm not buying your range claim, you were probably talking to a neighbour.
