President Reagan an imposing, smiling, cheerful leader who immediately showers his guests with pleasant words and evokes confidence and feel at home realisation in his guests. A rare charming person with rare gift of simplicity. A man for as high as sky and as humble as a man on ranch with his creatures and woods. Always good to see him.
From Reagan's diary that day: "The big day. Prince Charles & Diana arrived at 11 A.M. for coffee. They are very nice and it was an enjoyable 40 min. or so. Then they had to move on & I had to hightail it to U.S.I.A. where my 5 min. Sat. Radio broadcast became, for just this once, a 10 min. Radio & T.V. show to the Soviet U. & a number of other countries in 9 languages-an estimated audience of 120 mil. people. I wonder if Mr. G. listened. The dinner for the Prince & Diana was a great success. It had not a hint of “State Dinner” flavor. Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. Ted G. had decorated the W.H. more beautifully than we’ve ever seen it. Leontyne Price sang wonderfully & then everyone danced like at a Junior Prom".
What a grand meeting of transatanists; let's all act humble while we stroke each other's egos and praise ourselves for inherited power. You want to be humble, try letting a county issue its own currency.
I guess the Great Britain is the country as America’s most close allies for so long and always. Only America’s greatness is not enough. The support from own trusted allies are always very important for long runs to benefit each other’s recognitions, respect and friendships and loyalty toward each other countries’ greatness to preserve, protect and defend common recognition of the freedoms, entrepreneurship spirit and equality of opportunities always. No wonder the Prince Charles also knows our country America will govern by America’s principles of the Constitution laws to for America’s Foundation.
I can remember, in the U.K. during the 80s, there were lots of jokes in comedy and satire shows that suggested that Reagan was a bit senile, about a decade before his diagnosis of dementia was announced. This speech seemed to confirm it in the eyes of many in the U.K. Not only did he call her Princess David, but then corrects himself by calling her Princess Diane - which still isn’t her name! That all being said, this was a great age in US/UK relations. I don’t think Britain and America have ever been as close, politically, as they were when Reagan and Thatcher were in power. Combined with the leadership of Gorbachev in Russia, the world arena seemed far more hopeful than it does now.
Wow. Now Biden is fucked, don’t get me wrong, but how much you wanna bet the same people criticizing Biden’s gafs would defend each and every one of Regans gafs.
