This is the second photograph of Johnson and Grant together that I've seen. The other one is of them standing outside a doorway (don't know which building).
I knew about the photo of Wilson and Harding riding together to the inauguration, but I never realized Wilson didn’t attend the ceremony. Learned something new today.
Wilson's health was extremely bad at the time of the Harding inaugural. His absence may have had more to do with his own health issues than any political or personality issues.
That's basically true. I think the creator of this video was referring to the speech he gave the day after the January 6 riot where he said that they had to prepare for a new incoming administration. It clearly wasn't something he really believed though, given he still says the election was stolen.
For several reasons, Hoover was extremely hesitant to attend FDR's inauguration on March 4, 1933, but finally relented and (according to some accounts) literally rushed towards the Capitol. Probably he resolved that considering the parlous state of the Union at the time, missing the inauguration would provide a bad sign.
@@1aikane Reading further, it turns out that while it took lots of convincing to have Hoover attend FDR's inauguration, he did ride alongside the President-elect towards the Capitol, but tellingly, neither one looked at the other. The 1933 transition was by no means a peaceful one, with FDR being almost assassinated two weeks before his inauguration and Hoover being convinced voters made a mistake in not reelecting him. This was the main reason Presidents have been sworn in on January 20 since 1937 instead of March 4.
@@gvinnydog5500. he couldn't attend because he started all the unfounded "stolen election" nonsense. If he'd attended, it would tell his supporters he knew the fraud accusations were bogus.
@@julesjames593Don’t respect Wilson. He was a member of the KKK who reinstituted segregation in the U.S. armed forces. He oversaw the jailing during the war of numerous people, most of them innocent. He rejected most of our treaties with the Native Americans. He rejected masking during the Spanish Flu and killed tens of thousands before finally accepting the science. He embraced censorship, trying to make it permanent in the U.S. for all newspapers. He got the flu and from the flu had the stroke. As a result, he abandoned the peace process with Germany, setting the stage for WW2. His personal failings were legion. He was bigoted and ignorant as an educated man can be. The fact that he spoke and read six languages is not germane to the fact that he was a racist through and through.
Technically JFK's body was in the plane that LBJ took the oath of office in and some of him was still on Jackie O's clothes too and she was there, that's basically being there
@@1aikane people who care about the peaceful transfer of power. GOP used to be the "rule of law "party before Orange Jesus came along and started his cult.
So Johnson was crass and vindictive and stayed in the White House until the last minute, but even he did not order the staff to go all go home and lock the doors behind them. That milestone in US history did not happen until 2021.
He’s the kind of person who you don’t want at the party if he doesn’t really want to be there. The person you know was coerced to be there and put a damper on the whole thing. I honestly think he tried to usurp the inauguration by having his ‘farewell’ party instead. I think he was hoping that it would be a big thing and would demonstrate that HE was more popular than the new guy.
When Truman was riding with Eisenhower to the inauguration, Truman had been a nice guy and had given Eisenhower's son a furlough from the military to attend the inauguration. Eisenhower was a real jerk and accused Truman of embarrassing him by that action. If Truman was going to be treated that way, maybe he shouldn't have attended Eisenhower's inauguration.
That kind of seems like how Eisenhower’s personality was. His son was an officer in the US army, and to Ike that was more important than having a father who is president. He seemed like a “duty above all else” type of man.
Eisenhower refused to meet Truman and his wife, Bess Truman, at the White House. Truman was angry but Bess simply wanted to leave Washington as soon as possible. Eisenhower implied during the campaign that Truman was a Communist sympathizer who supposedly “lost” China by refusing to send troops to prop up the nationalists.
It is amazing both that the US has so many petty, vindictive, and overall nasty people in our highest office and that we have survived them. I think most of them were represented in one side or the other of this list. The only President with near pychopathic tendencies that did not make this list (on one side or the other) in my opinion is LBJ.
Trump says “I want the market to crash now because I don’t want to be Hoover.” Well Donnie, You certainly aren’t.. . Hoover was a great humanitarian did manage to attend Franklin Roosevelt’s inauguration ceremony. What did you do…..first, fomented an insurrection and then bailed out of going to the inauguration of your predecessor due to being a sore loser.
@tomhammer1784: I thought Trump hadn't gone to Biden's inauguration because he (Trump) had a recurrence of extremely painful bone spurs. Is that not true???
Dang, I can't believe JFK was so disrespectful. We should always show respect even if we don't agree with our successors, I don't know what went through his head, but honestly, I thought he was better than this.
He also said he never swore an oath to the constitution. Which means legally he was never president. So there wasn't anything to concede. Sounds like an confession to treason to me.
Trump if filled with hate and anger. Add that to his narcissistic, self-absorbed, childish demeanor, and it’s understandable he wouldn’t attend the swearing in of Biden!
There aren't any Americans still around from when Wilson didn't attend Harding's inauguration (if you discount people who were toddlers and are 105 now). Wilson also had a stroke. Seems fairly reasonable. So, in recent history that leaves Nixon and Trump. Nixon resigned in disgrace. Not much has to be said about that. Ford was also sworn-in without celebration as it was an intra-term inauguration. Which just leaves Trump. Who had no valid excuse. Just being petty and vindictive. However, did anyone really think he would do anything different? He's a child.
Interesting video. I was wondering about the tradition of leaving a letter for your successor - how long has that been going on and is there a record of who didn't leave one?
That is correct, but it is tradition in the handing over of power. Thankfully only some presidents have decided to skip their predecessor's inauguration.
8:18 When exactly did trump concede the election? 4 years later he still whines like a baby saying the election was stolen. When and where was this to have happened?
I'm baffled that this American History isn't taught in School...we were taught in the 60's BS and just very few facts of America History! For example Christopher Columbus discovered America. American History in Highschool also was filled with opinions rather than facts. Our Country's History needs to tell the facts and leave out opinions of those who don't want to let the truth be told. I did enjoy these facts of the President who didn't or couldn't attend The Inaugural Ceremony.
Colombus discovered America in the sense that he brought awareness of the existence of that landmass to the wider world. It was his ''discovery'' that acted as the catalyst for the pivotal events that followed.
Regarding the first sentence of the narrative: The 45th person to serve as president is Biden, and we don't know whether or not he'll attend his successor's inauguration. Trump was the 44th person to serve as president of the USA. Grover Cleveland and Grover Cleveland were the same person.
@@ericwilliams1659 It's wrong. And this video says, "Of the 45 men who have served as United States President..." Well, that part is correct; There have been 45, including Biden. But we don't know whether or not Biden will attend his successor's inauguration. You could look at a list somewhere. There are some father-son pairs with similar names, like John Adams and his son John Adams, and George Bush and his son George Bush, but Grover Cleveland is on there twice, because he left the presidency and came back for another term later. You can count them yourself, and notice that Grover Cleveland and Grover Cleveland are the same person.
@dudethebagman Grover didn't leave. He lost the electral vote than won the next term. He was the 22nd president and the 24th president. And if Trump gets reelected, he will become the 45th and the 47th. It is not hard. I know the person narrating might have used very specific words in a sentence. But that doesn't relate to how the US records presidents and terms served.
Fun fact: JFK's casket with his dead body was present at LBJ's first inauguration aboard Air Force 1, so technically JFK (in the form of a dead body) attended LBJ's inauguration
Interesting videos, thanks, but it's NOT an election '"cycle," but just an election! It's never been called such in history since some dingaling invented the annoying term. 😖
"An election cycle begins the day after the previous general election for a given federal office and ends on the date of the general election for that office. The number of years in an election cycle differs according to the federal office sought." The term was first popularized in the 1800s. All words and phrases are because some "dingaling invented them".
His aides technically forced him to give a super quick concession on January 7th after his supporters stormed the Capitol. But we all know it wasn’t sincere.
@@bonecanoe86 Kennedy was assassinated..Kennedy's wife was beside LBJ while being sworn in as the new President. So in a way, Kennedy was present during the inarguable Nov 63
I think Trump was wrong for not attending Biden’s inauguration, but I also think Biden was low class by saying he was happy Trump didn’t attend. Presidents can be just as stubborn and petty in modern times as they were 200 years ago.
that's a false equivalency. after 2 1/2 months of trump's 5 dozen lawsuits, ongoing efforts to convince state officials to overturn their results, refusal to concede much less congratulate biden or at least wish him well on behalf of the good of the people and the country...... it's a bit much to call biden "low class" for being happy that guy wasn't coming. everyone knows if trump showed up he would have made the entire event about him, and the media would practically be compelled to focus their cameras and attention on him an inordinate amount of the time, as we the public would practically be demanding to see what kinds of expression were on his face. instead, we got a beautiful inauguration that focused as it should on the person being inaugurated. of course that was preferable to biden and of greater benefit to the people than another trump shitshow stoking tension and animosity that day.
Once again, thank you for presenting your video as unbiased as possible. Other youtubers (specifically Mr. Beat) love to add their own political 2 cents to theirs
Tbh I’m fine with presidents not attending because of their relationship with their successor but trump didn’t because of the election I think idk if I’m right.
Coverage as I recall it was always about "in modern times" or "since the turn of the 20th century". The exceptions are Wilson (who was sick but still rode to the Capitol with his successor) and Nixon (who frankly nobody expected to attend under the circumstances). Seems the takeaway you want to draw from this is that the liberal media is dishonest and mean to Trump. The takeaway you should draw from this is that Trump was the first loser in 152 years to skip the inauguration for no reason other than he is an immature wanker who is incapable of accepting any outcome that doesn't go his way. A person who loses an election is the loser of that election, but only Trump turned it into being a LOSER of a human being. That is your takeaway.

Examine the current state of the world. 2 Timothy 4:1-5 states "You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. People will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!" Jesus is coming back. Are you ready?
I know Donald Trump did n t attend Joe Biden s inaugural but I don t blame him I did n t want to watch his inaugural myself Nah I did n t vote for Biden He s not my president
You know that the country only has one president at a time, don’t you? Those of us who had to endure four years of Trump’s attempts at destroying the union still had to acknowledge him as president. It would have been for the good of the country for him to attend. Of course, I can’t think of anything Trump ever did for the good of the country, only for the good of his bottom line.
