Thanks for this Studio One installation on a Mac. I just purchased a M2 Mac Mini with 16GB Ram, 256 GB SSD. I added an External 1TB SSD, very fast. What I might add to your video is, when you install Studio One, the base Program is installed on your primary drive. When you start Studio One up, to add the additional content you need to Click on "Studio One" next to the Black Apple, and Select "Studio One Installation". That brings up the screen that you go over selecting locations of the additional content. It took me awhile to figure it out, I'm MacOS Challenged. Maybe this will help others in the same boat.
Chris, thank you for your video. I am a 57 yo man who has been playing acoustic since I was 15. Like many folks, during COVID we were shut in and had a lot of time on our hands. I wasn't an Apple enthusiast, so I researched what was out there for PC and eventually gravitated towards Cakewalk. Worked on the basics with Cakewalk along with a Scarlet 2i2 and old Presonus BlueTube pre-amp from the 90's, mostly working on acoustic and vocals. I felt that Cakewalk was rather limited so I decided to give Studio One a try. It opened up an entire new world. I disagree withe the comment below- "Way too complex for beginners." Like with anything, there is a learning curve. I like the "drag and drop" environment and the stock plug-ins that come with the + and Professional versions are great. If a 57 yo, not always on top of his game, man can learn this stuff, I am confident that many other folks can too. Also, I enjoy the way you present information- slow, methodical and patient. Keep up the great work. Chris from Bama.
You’re my new best friend. Thank you for your videos. Can I use the same ssd in all of my windows 11 computers. I’ve got studio professional on 2 of them. I’m stopping your videos and doing as you say. Can I play guitar? No but I’m trying. Can I play my nova mini! again no. But im trying. One problem I had is I bought keys for studio pro they sent them to me , I coped and paste them on activate they wouldn’t work. Then I typed them in and it worked. Same thing with laptop. I just wanted to thank you for all of your helpful videos.
Definitely go with what you’re going to be comfortable with using. I’ve reinstalled studio one many many times over the years and each time I go with a more minimal installation. Thanks for watching!
Love this, thanks Chris, I am new and just learning everything, can you do a video on how to sync align lyrics with guitar? I recorded separately and need help syncing everything, I can't seem to get my lyrics to align with the beat of my guitar. I can't sing and play guitar at the exact same time, Newbie here please don't judge lol lol
We’ve all been there! 😅 If you don’t mind I’ll share a few videos that should help, you may have seen them already but there are a few different ways to help you with that..

Thanks! I might have to get back with you for sure. I have Artist version 5 currently on that MacBook. It was running version 5 professional as part of their monthly subscription plan at the time of this video but I opted for the paid version since then. About 2 weeks ago I switched back over to my Windows PC and I’m running Pro version 6 on that with no problems. I would be very surprised if Studio One gave you any issues, I’ve used every version since version 3 on many computers with no issues. I just haven’t put version 6 on my MacBook because I only use them for work stuff now
Just to clarify...You also install studio one on your external, not just the vsti, loops and content that come with studio one. The additional contaent that come with studio one goes on the external?
You should have the ability to install Studio One on multiple computers. I believe for every version of Studio One you’ve purchased you get at least 3-5 installations. So I always install Studio One on my Laptop, and my PC. If you’re going to be using someone else’s computer then yes you should install everything to the SSD. If you don’t install everything to the SSD even if your friend has Studio One he/she may not have the same additional content that you do. Personally, I only keep my song session files on the external SSD because it’s less memory being used that way. Sorry for not stating that in the video 😅
Chris, do you have any experience with a Nektar Impact LX25+ keyboard controller? I'm not very savvy with this keyboard stuff and I'm struggling to make sense of the "support" info from Nektar. Any advice or re-direction would be greatly appreciated.
@@heychrisgreen I followed all the steps you advised about setting up Studio One for the controller, but the signal indicator never shows any activity in the track.
@@Gracebeliever077 okay open the Inspector tab with your desired synth or virtual instrument selected. Make sure that in the Inspector tab your LX25+ is selected where in has “In” written just above the track’s fader.. sorry it’s hard to advise you without the visuals 😅 If you’re not seeing any activity (orange bar jumping around every time you hit a key) then it’s most likely just a routing issue.. also there are some functions on midi keyboards that aren’t universally accepted across virtual instruments. The piano keys are usually okay but knobs and faders are more difficult to designate functions to.. open an instance of Presence from studio one, select your LX25+ as the input and let’s see if that works… if not we may have to go back into the setup external device page
Tanks for the video. If I install the additional S1 content on my external drive....Do I need to reinstall it everytime I install S1 after a clean install of Windows or if something goes wrong and I need to remove and reinstall S1 pro? Will evrything, loops, instruments, ets work properly or do I need to point S1 where the content is, or do I have to reinstall everything everytime I need to do a fresh install?
Hmmm.. so the Studio One App/Program Files will be installed to your main computer drive. All of your Loops/VSTs can be downloaded and stored to your external drives. Studio One typically includes 3 licenses per purchase. I do a basic install of studio one with all of my computers and I use the “Locations” setting in Stydio One to tell each program where the Loops & VSTs are. If you wipe your Operating System you will need to reinstall studio one but don’t have to redownload all the additional content.. sorry if this is all convoluted 😅
I accidentally skipped the area with the additional content that cam be added to studipo one, how do i download the recommended plugins, samples and loops
Open Studio One and at the top of the screen you should see an option for “Installations” in one of the drop down menus.. I believe it’s under “Studio One” > Installations…
Why put all that everything on an external drive. 100 Mb is not that much data it needs to be kept aside. Running from the SSD will be much slower than installing it all on the main computer - especially if you install the SSD in the computer, itself. If you cannot install an SSD in your computer, you need a new computer. Internal SSD will always be faster than an external one on a USB port. If not, you need a better computer. Just saying. I would not do it this way. Sidebar comment: If you cannot tune your bass properly, you need a better base, or, at least, a proper setup including intonation adjustment. Auto tune can be handy in a pinch, but I would never tolerate a bass that was not in tune throughout the fret board range. That is just too danged cheap. Buy a new bass instead of fixing bad audio with auto tune. Sheesh... a decent bass does not cost all that much. Common man. :-) JT
