U didn't demo the mic correctly because the preamp was on instrument when u applied the signal from ur interface. U should have demo'd the condenser with the phantom power and the low cut, while adjusting the drive and gain. It would have been more noticeable and sounded better. U applied it post, which defeats the purpose of a pre. It's not wrong, just another way of signal processing. It worked better on the guitar, because the signal was going thru instrument. At 50% it started to sweeten up even though ur drive and gain were mislabeled.
Thank you for the review. I think it would be fair to review this product with a condenser mic to show the phantom power (+48v) capabilities and used at the same time as another mice to use the phase (polarity reverse). Also when using a condenser mic you can use the 80Hz roll off which sounds nice (especially in a video review like this one). Also when dialing up the Drive you should watch your VU meter for any peaking and adjust by lowering the gain. You will not get as much distortion...
Thanks for the review bud! Pretty good thanks. Funny how all of these comments from the "musical judges" that I hope that at least they work for Capitol Records can be better than you! I doubt it but let's keep the hopes high
Yo Cody I gotta question... is that VU meter light florescent green? If not what color is it??? I'm just asking because it looks green on a lot of other videos. Thanks bro
You are getting gain and drive mixed up. You said gain was at 100% but it was te drive at 100%. This Pre sort of warms up the mid highs. I like the drive feature. this is not bad for the price. If you don't have thousands of dollars to invest in a real quality real tube Pre, buy this. It's much cheaper to buy used.
A lot of these comments state the fact that this all goes through the instrument channel rather than the mic. That is because he is re-amping like he says. Unfortunately that doesn't really give us an accurate picture of what the actual pre does for a decent condenser. You just end up adding different levels of clipping. Which is not really what the pre is for.... You could do a straight mic shoot out review. Condenser vs dynamic and show what the high pass filter vs with out sounds like and then do various drive stages. -for the same price you can find something used that is far better like a bellari. - I have one of these Presonus Tube pre's and the fire pod interface. You can put more money into a decent interface like focusrite and leave the need for a pre amp like this behind. This would be more necessary in a situation where your signal strength was not sufficient enough to hit the sound board. You might use this live more than in a studio.
I am seeing apparent pro gear but I am hearing something throughout this video that sounds worse off than my battery operated 4W radio speaker!! What is going on!
Hey man I’m just now finding this video like four years later now that I’m considering purchasing one for myself and I really really love that guitar sample that you played I was wondering if it would be cool with you if I were to sample that and loop it for a acoustic piece ? I was like freestyle singing to it and I think it would be a really cool thing if it was just guitar and vocals with heavy autotune! I can definitely give you credit for it that’s no problem!
hi there need some help, i got a presonus audiobox with a tubepre, do i need a directbox or just connect the tube directly to the interface ?? im only recording vocals with a condenser mic and wich bottom from the tubepre i need to use ?? i know +48v is one but the other 3 ?? and if the VU meter is always in the red area what that could be ? thanks i hope someone can help soon
It's not a real tube preamp. It's an FET preamp that supplies just enough voltage to the tube's plate for it to provide some of the tube's distortion to pretend to be the "warmth".
First time hearing 12AX7 coming in transistor format :D It is possible to drive tubes at low voltages (and it's done countless times), but that's not really the save because with that low voltage heat elements aren't heated and tube doesn't rospond the same.
Do you perceive any noticeable difference in the EQ/warmth of the tracks when using the TubePre versus without? Tough to tell for sure here, be interesting to hear what your experience is.
BlueTube with 25% actually sounds better than just the raw signal coming from the audio interface. Shelling out $100+ to get this difference, is something you must decide for yourself
