100% I was expecting Eddie to spin not having sponsors behind them as "cheapening the message they're trying to send" or something like that. That's what I would be doing if I were wearing my PR boots. Easy to say you'll fix things when it becomes in your political/financial interest to do so. In Japan, they'd show they really meant it by sacrificing their salary or resigning or something. Eddie's done neither. He's enabled racism on the radio and since failed to take sufficient action. This is one of the most embarassing and appalling things Eddie has done in his tenure as the Collingwood president and that's saying something. How you can hold a 50min press conference regarding a report that found your organisation was rife with systemic racism that hurt a great deal of people and not apologise, say the word "sorry", show any contrition, remorse or shame even once. To call this a "proud day" for the club is disgusting, tone deaf and shows that for all the talk, Eddie and the Collingwood board haven't learned a thing. Eddie should prove the public wrong and step down, like he should have years ago when he racially vilified Adam Goodes. Shame on the board and shame on Eddie McGuire, I truly never thought they could go any lower. I was wrong.
Why would a racist have a black friend? If you accuse someone of being homophobic (accusations are so easy to make) and they respond by saying, "But my best friend is gay!" why is that a weak defense? It makes the accuser look rather stupid and devious.

It seems Jodie Sizer thinks it's a cure for racism. She has asked the club to recruit more indigenous players. I suppose we will have to bring in players based upon their skin colour rather than their football ability to prove we aren't racist. We should have a female president to prove we don't hate women and an amputee physio to show we have no bigotry in our hearts for the disabled in our community.
Absolutely pathetic response. The last 6 months have been a perfect example of what not to do as a football club. From the handling of Treloar's trade, to the gaslighting of Heritier Lumumba, to this response. When will our club learn from their past blunders and horrendous attitudes,.........I'm amazed that we learnt nothing from the racial abuse that Nicky Winmar had to endure on that horrible day of April 17th, 1993. The iconic statue of Nicky pulling up his guernsey and pointing at his body came about from the shit aimed at him from our players and a vast majority of our supporters on that terrible day. I have always barracked for Collingwood, however there are far too many times where i have been embarrassed to admit that i do.

Too little too late Eddie. The main element missing from Eddie's responses was taking any kind of RESPONSIBILITY for HIS leadership, which fostered a racist culture at Collingwood, leading to this report NEEDING to be commissioned. As they say, it comes from the top, and he must acknowledge this for any genuine healing to take place. This feels like bandwagon jumping to keep up with popular thought and brand damage control, rather than a sincere critical analysis of the ethics and actions of the Collingwood Football Club, its management, players and community's responses to racism.

The first time I encountered Eddie Maguire was at the Coburg drive in for a special screening of a movie. He made a speech and insulted anyone present that they must have all just been let out of Pentridge jail. He kept making that joke. And it kept landing as badly as it had the first time. He then proceeded to walk out into the audience like the only Roman emperor born in Broadmeadows. The funny thing is... he had an enormous splash of spaghetti sauce on his stupid cheek which no one bothered to tell him about because the fackwit show he was putting on was just too entertaining. In this presser he’s saying (without saying) that there are many people, organisations and probably clubs that are as bad, or have equivalent problems, and he’s not wrong. But sometimes you need to know when to show a bit of humility and vulnerability and say Fucken sorry for a start. If Collingwood systems and processes have fallen down, okay they’re rectifying it, and if they do yeah it’s something to be proud of. But his approach, as is often the case, has failed to acknowledge that people have been affected by the failings of his club. He’s too one eyed.
