What most people dont understand is that we preserve for a lot of different reasons, I can milk for emergencies or when God for id, the grocery shelves are empty and there is no food to be found. I will be grateful to open a jar of my cream colored milk and use it for whatever I need, also thankful that I was smart enough to prepare for these hard times that is upon us. As for tasting like evaporated milk, I grew up using canned milk for everything, including using it on my cereal! I will smile every time I open a jar when there is no milk to be found or it rises to $10 a gallon.
Good morning Trudy! Thanks you for sharing your perspective, I really appreciate it. We do indeed preserve for different reasons. I like that the home canned milk cream I’m using now is not the price I would be paying now. That’s just one reason! Thanks for watching 🌸
I've been waiting for this update!!! I can my pints for 15mins and quarts for 20mins. I've only used it for cooking/baking and for hot chocolate. I absolutely love that you actually CAN the milk.
Hi bofinkley! Thanks for sharing your experience with canning milk. I have never canned quarts before. I’ll have to try it with hot chocolate - how was the flavour? @HerHomsteadSkills did a video on it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YNPS3s9kpUg.html Thanks for your kind words 🌸
@@allsorts4041 using canned milk for hot chocolate is very rich tasting! The only problem is I go thru too much of my milk stock. Hot chocolate gets too many requests. 😊
I tried this with whole milk and 1/2 percent milk, it's not for me, it tastes like evaporated milk. I'm going with the powdered whole milk for shelf stable. I'm glad it worked out for you. I like when there are tasting follow ups.
Hi LT As for drinking it as is it’s not for me either. In coffee or on oatmeal is where I use it! Thanks for sharing your perspective and the kind words. Thanks for watching 🌸
I had tasted 18 months a few weeks ago and it tasted like evaporate milk. I didn't get sick!! Yayyyy... it was thick and we used it in our iced coffee. Not bad.
❤❤❤ I just opened a jar of Vitamin D milk last night that I canned in 4/2020 and it was perfect… the color looks more cream colored, like evaporated milk but the taste was the same as whole milk. I’ll can more this week! ❤
I have pressure canned my milk too tastes just like condensed milk bought from the store it was all used 8 months later. Truly, I have canned milk stored in the pantry but, I have Jersey Cows so It's fresh milk twice a day. So, much milk I make cheese too . Great video thanks for sharing.
Greetings Canadian Homestead sounds like those Jersey Cows have you flush with milk! Indeed it has a rich flavour doesn’t it! Thank-you for the compliment and thanks for watching 🌸
Next time I try this I want to add a drop or two of vanilla extract per jar. I have no idea if thats a good idea, or a really bad one! I also use this for mostly tea or coffee. A little vanilla to improve the flavor. Thankyou for the update.
Hi Kason let us know how it works out if if you add the vanilla extract. Coffee for me I think I’m going to try it with hot chocolate! Thanks for watching Jason and you’re most welcome for the update! 🙂
Love square jars! Wish they were all square save room! I would love to can milk, but my husband uses it on his cereal, I know he couldn't use it. Coffee wise, oh yeah. If you added water when you open, do you think more like regular milk? I'm curious.
Hi LjT thanks for watching! I wish I had more square pint sized jars. I certainly treasure this one. I don’t think adding water would work. The processing affects the taste - a tad sweet. Give canning milk a try for your coffee! Who knows, your hubby may end up liking it! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hello everyone! Here is the 2 Year Update Video (Oct 2023) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7Q2acFnWHPk.htmlsi=Hhw-RD3c5byy9jr9 Here is a 1 year update of my home canned milk ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QGBghsNO1fw.html
I have some of those BOCAL jars! Bought them a loooong time ago ;) I've been brave enough to do ghee but I've not worked up the nerve to try milk. Just opened a jar of ghee I canned in November and it's lovely and fresh tasting. Amazing for frying things like potatoes or pierogi.
Hi monkeeblue you’ll be happy you did can the ghee! I was walking through Walmart today and saw some for $28 or so. It looked like it may have been a half gallon size I’m not 100% sure tho. Thanks for watching 🌸
Does it taste similar to store bought canned milk? Mom canned milk when I was a kid. She had a cookbook with the recipe for canning. She said she didn't like the taste of it but it worked fine for cooking.
Hi Lynda thanks for the question. The only canned milk I have tasted is evaporated milk. This certainly tastes similar but of course evaporated would be thicker. Thanks for watching 🌸
I would really like to can heavy whipping cream,. We've been very healthy, on Ketogenic lifestyle, 4 yrs now, and I use a lot of cream. Do you think it's possible?
Hi Wildflower glad to hear the keto lifestyle is working for you 🌸 I think it’s very possible to can the heavy cream. I’ve never done it though. If I were to I wouldn’t do the 15m processing time info for milk. Thanks for watching 🌸
I like this process in canning milk, for my mothers sake, Thanx for your video. Going to subscribe to see what else you might have going on, and your damn cute!
I have not pressure canned milk yet. How long have you kept it on the shelf and it remained stable? I understand you are keeping one to taste at the year mark. But wondering if you have tasted other canned milk past the six month point. Thank you for the video 🙌🤲🙏💞🇨🇦
HimGod’s Alberta Patriot! Six months is the longest I’ve kept it on the shelf so I thought I would waive viewers an update by doing this video! I hope to do a video with a jar from this batch at the 1 year point. Thanks for watching 🌸
Hi Judy i believer this is the longest I have kept the home canned milk on the shelf. I will do a one year update as well. Thanks for your interest and dropping a comment 🌸
Mine doesn't seem as creamy as yours .. used whole from store 15min pc ... perhaps the brand of milk ...love having home canned it has saved us a few times this winter.. mother nature kept slamming us ..I'll experiment with different beans to see if different
Almost every thing i do is not approved. Thats when you know your doing it right. I can my raw goats milk for 30 minutes at 180 degrees. Will keep forever. Theres not time limit. Unless the cap rust off.
