Crap, if the vacuum pressure in the tank can suck up the water in the well, this pressure will immediately collapse the plastic tank. If the plastic bottle does not collapse, the vacuum pressure will suck the water out from the faucet. not without sucking down the well. because the pressure column in the well is higher than at the water outlet.

Correct but this is not siphon. The water that flows out of the tank/bottle creates vacuum since there is not enough air to fill up the volume lost. So eventually if the system is air and water tight the water from the well must fill up the bottle provided the vacuum created is strong enough. The inlet pipe should be narrow and as short as possible because then there is smaller volume of water in it to lift from the well. The outlet pipe should be as in the design fairly long and has a wide part that holds big volume of water.
@@HelgiThorisson Sorry, but this IS a siphon. A siphon with a priming drum. You may also call it a “flying droplet siphon” (look up siphon on Wikipedia. It is correct that the volume of the water in the barrel must be large enough, but let us assume that the input pipe is 60 mm and the volume in the barrel is 200 litres. Then the input may be about 60 m long! If you like, you may shorten the length of the suction pipe to say 3 m and increase the diameter to say 30 cm. The input may be much wider than the output. There is no need to reduce the diameter at the output, but you should dip the output into a bucket of water or install an upward bend at the output to prevent air from leaking in. This is a siphon, and with any siphon the water level in the source must be higher than the delivery exit. Been working with siphons for 35 yrs. This video is a hoax.
@@Dingsrud I am an old school mechanic since the seventies. Adding some sort of vacuum extraction or pumping and we do not call it siphon. Apart from the definition, yes, this is a hoax but a clever one. The tank is the cylinder and the water is the piston like in a fluid extractor. But this design can not create this amount of vacuum. So they zoom in on the bottle so you can see and hear it collapsing while they apply vacuum to the outlet to get the action going. It could work for a little while until the vacuum in the bottle is lost. @9:18 you can see how it is taking in air, the air volume is much greater, there is little water left in the tank, no new water coming in and there is little flow out (the valve is clearly open). The action has stopped and they can't get it going again unless the fill the tank with water and apply external vacuum to the outlet.

Even if there were an electric pump hidden in there, it would probably only have to run for 5-10 seconds in there to replenish the pressurization if it ran out. There probably is not an electric pump.
