Wow, not going to be making loads of friends with other boaters washing all that crap into the canal🤦🏻‍♂️

Im an AMPP certified coatings specialist I work on ships for a living. You guys are creating so much work for yourselves. You need to dry dock her and blast and paint properly. I'm not trying to be a nark you will a) save money and b) time (and the canal will thank you)! All the best.

I subbed to see a couple of people who have no idea what they are doing flip this barge. Don't understand why youre pressure washing it unless you're ready to paint. First thing you should have done is drydock her and get her surveyed

I can across your first video about the barge by accident. Im now watching #5, i love them, thank you so much for sharing. These alot of hard work and frustration involved, but its all worth it.

🤔 now that has pissed me off big time. Why are you allowed to jet paint probably led based.rust grease & oil straight into the canal.

Here in my state in the USA I would probably get a HUGE fine for "contaminating the waterways" if I did this. But it is good to see an old boat being given a new life.

Think I would of made a sawn timber frame , fixed the plastic sheeting/ OSB to it. Brackets fixed on boat hatch so ‘roof light ‘ can be removed on dry weather or fitted over in wet weather

Guys, you really need to wear protective eye wear, at the very least, when using those power hoses. You're dislodging particles of rusty metal, under high pressure. It's a formula for a serious eye injury. Please be careful.

Alot of people going hard on the power wash.. i figure you guys on a low budget and the time frame is also strict.. sandblasting cost alot theses days. Can i advise a isolated off canal mooring to calm the unruffled masses 😊. Im sure the clean wasnt to bad you didn't seem to use any chemicals...that was wise.😊

A Few dead fish, ducks and swans in future episodes due to all that 50 or 60 year old lead based paint getting blasted into the Canal. Very surprised no one stopped you in your tracks. I would have said that was a bit reckless guys and I am not being mean I wish you well

Keep going as I said on your second episode me and deb bought a narrowboat we have now almost stripped it out the previous owners cut steel bulkhead out and replaced it with wood for some strange reason so I'm currently fabricating and welding in previous bodge jobs I've given her a deadline for it to be finished end of December or end of January I wish there was a way to also show images of our progress to you

Surprised authorities allowed pressure washing on the waterway instead of dry dock . Lots of old toxic paints leaching into the waterway not ideal!

Seems like a lot of people ready to criticsize your project at least a lot offering helpful suggestions . I am an anti pollution activist but the continued existence as an abandoned boat was also visual pollution and polluting the water .

Can NOT BELIEVE you blasted that junk into the water contaminating the river and marine life. It was all over your boots too. You could both end up with a huge environmental fine and prison for that. Meant to be dry docked for such works.

There's an awful lot of people who obviously know what the're talking about telling you to go to a boat yard for lifting , inspection , sandblasting and blacking , priming etc . I do wish you would listen . I can see you guys running out of enthusiasm as winter sets in and abandoning your project , shame but i wish you well . Someone said to me a boat is a big hole in the water you chuck money into . I also agree not a good idea to pollute the waterways its illegal.

Guys no offence, I wish you well, but jet washing the boat like this in situ is not only bad practice but pretty pointless. Get her out the water, blasted and get a proper idea of hull structure. If the above water line is in this condition the hull is almost certainly going to need extensive over plating.

Although I do see the need to clean it exterior. But it really needs to be done in drydock. All that crap just went into canal. By posting it if you have laws there for polluting the river they can fine you. I think it would be best if you want to finish it the right way find a drydock.

Not a good idea to do that! The CRT can fine you pretty heavily, and they have all the evidence they need on video! Its also pretty pointless, as its going to need blast cleaning, and welding repairs, before thinking about painting.

There is a tip for the pressure washer called (in the US) a "whirlybird tip". It makes a 0 degree stream that spins it into a cone. With a big enough pressure washer it will strip old paint off that is even thinking about being loose. Hope the local Govt"t does not give you a bad time about debris going into the canal.

The only way you're gonna power wash and Is sand blast that boat is if you get it out of the water. Then Prime then paint it.❤

So much work! If I may, as someone that has used pressure washers way too much in a professional capacity, I strongly suggest a rotary nozzle. The first time you use it your eyes will get a little wider, you’ll smile, and then say WoW!

Why are you wasting you time power, washing it it needs blasting and your pollutant canal it looks like red lead on there😅

Doing this in the tow path is an environmental mistake. You are blowing off old paint into the canal and surrounding area. Thus work should be done in a certified boat yard.

Stop get survey before you spend anymore time on your project. If you don’t have boat safety certificate message I can do a examination if you are local

It's a beautiful ship and you have my full respect for trying to save it. But for God's sake, don't accompany the videos with that utterly dreadful music. It's the first time in my life I've ever had to turn off the sound on a video about canal boats.

You don't say how much pressure your pressure washer was capable of putting out. It takes a fair amount to run one of the rotary nozzles - something like 4000 PSIG (Metric Measurement?) I have one such nozzle and one has to be careful to keep it moving over wood, or it's shredded. It looks like the primer used on your boat is probably what our Navy here calls "red lead", compounded with actual heavy lead content and not a good thing to put in the canals. I would council you in the future to perform due diligence and find out what restrictions are in place before proceeding. This is why work like this and media blasting are performed in boat yards, to control substances being removed that may be toxic to humans and wildlife. When I was on the canals, Shropshire Union and Llangollen, the water was dirty enough that I didn't want to touch it and locals were still fishing in it. Think of adding lead pollution to their catches. Large and complicated project so do it once and do it right!

You need a turbo tip for your pressure washer it will take more of the crap off the boat.

Why use irritating music ? Why use any music?

Wonderful idea to spray out all this lead based, for sure, paint without wearing mask protection.

You should be in dry dock doing that spray wash.

Did you find it hard to get boat insurance coz of the condition of the boat? Would the CRT also issue you a licence as your boat would have a certificate of worthiness? Also I take it that it’s hard to move the boat every 2 weeks under the CRT regulations.

Have a look in some salvage yards. A lot of them get big glass panels left over from construction jobs. You could probably pick up a toughened glass panel that you could walk on for the price of some that plastic stuff. Also talk to some glazing companies. I have built spray booths for them and they almost always have units left from orders that failed or were made wrong. Pretty sure you could coax a pane or two out of someone.

I’m wondering when you were in California. Episode 1 featured a California t-shirt. This episode features an O’Neill Surf and Sport hoodie (Santa Cruz). I’m from Pacific Grove (between Monterey and Carmel. It’s fun to see local things so far from home.

You will never finish this project you lovely people, why waste time and money on temporary fixes you need to do one job at a time properly

THIS BOAT WAS ADRIFT IN THE CANAL AT RICKMANSWORTH TODAY!!!!!!! With some help from a chap called Mike I secured it to the bank.

Cut windows in the black window covers. Clear plastic and duct tape. More light. Add a 6' deck over hang to the transom. It would be cool! P.s. you might remove the video/evidence Lol!

Take it out of the water and get a professional to measure the thickness of the hul before investing, If the metal is too thin the boat maybe nothing more than scrapmetal.

Lead paint chips cant be good for the water but id bet that canal is a sewer anyways wouldn't want to fall in that water that's for sure .
